Mildly surprised to hear that Boston/Isles is a bad matchup for Boston... until this year, I'd thought the exact opposite. So hearing that from you actually makes me feel more confident about the direction the Isles are going.

The Thursday night game was really the one that got away. Canes fan, and I was pretty sure scoring right after the disallowed goal was going to springboard them to a W. I've seen a lot of Dallas this year, and I'm guessing they end the year in 3rd or 4th. Pavelski is terrifying.
Boston moving up that many spots seems ridiculous to me. Maybe it's because I'm a Leafs fan and yes Boston is playing very well even with the loss (kinda like the Leafs) but what made them move up so much that had other teams pushed back?
Chicago playing legit I see us missing out of the playoffs which is a bummer but we are right around as good as Columbus. It’s been great to watch still I thought we were legit going to finish worse than Detroit
I'm a canes fan and I think perhaps they are being under-rated by a few slots. In general you have the central rated lower than I think they really ought to be (though its hard to gauge the viability of each division). The canes have not played the greatest teams in the division, but the one time they did play Tampa they ended up winning. In about a week the canes will play Tampa three times and that will be a good metric, but what makes tampa so scary is that they are doing all of this without stamkos and Kucherov
That point you said against the jets about them having most of their wins against the Senators could be the same thing said for the Oilers. The oilers have played well against the Leafs though
I think the Islanders are about where I expect them to be at the end of season. Beauvillier coming back should help the scoring a bit, and I suspect Walhstrom will be the one sent to the taxi squad. The real problem is Varlamov can’t play every game and Sorokin needs to be better if the team is going to move up in the standings.
Hey Shannon I know you’re a busy guy but I was wondering if you could settle a debate? I put forward the notion that Leon Draisaitl may now be a better player than MacKinnon. My friends all call me crazy, but I can’t help but see Draisaitls superior point production over the last few seasons, coupled with his much improved defensive play and think “why not?”
And before you think “homer”, which I very well may be, I’m at the point where I think there is a very narrow gap (if any) between Draisaitl and McDavid
@Paul Oleksiw that is very true, however that is an area where Drai has improved like crazy recently. The sportsnet panel was talking saying Drai may be the selke front runner. Mac is a hell of a player, and yah as far as completeness absolutely
@Paul Oleksiw yeah but it doesn't work like that. Also it's still not true. McDavid and Draisaitl could put up 90 points in 56 games this year each. MacKinnon is easily a top 5 player in the league but I still think those two are better at the moment. MacKinnon has what, 2 goals and 13ish assists or something this year? Is he a better defensive forward than those two? Obviously but you're making it seem like he's Patrice Bergeron which is laughable
@Paul Oleksiw you also have to take into account that the Avalanche are a much better team than the Oilers. They have awful defense and middling goaltending. Yes, I agree that MacKinnon is a better two-way forward but I'd still take McDavid and Draisaitl over them because their scoring is harder to replace than defensive play
I'm very surprised to see that many teams behind Nashville. As a Preds fan who's seen every one of their games this season, I don't think they deserve to be higher than 29th. Yeah goals would be nice, but in the meantime, it'd be cool if they could figure out how to get through the neutral zone without losing the puck. It's like the entire team has forgotten how to play hockey. The entire team, minus Rocco Grimaldi, seems to quit after they give up a goal.
Very good assessment, except Vancouver. They have had a rough run, not as good as last year, but not the worse team in the league. Not deserving of a high rank, but better than at least five teams.
