  • Drive review of the Tamiya Sand-Viper on 3300kv Brushless motor and 2s Lipo battery. This thing hauls! Even pulls a wheelie at one point.

      Thanks Rob! I plan to do that soon. I think it can handle 3s though I'm not sure if the tires would need glued. I wouldn't want to bash o it on 3s though.

    A 19 tooth pinion is going to have less acceleration and more top end speed than a 17 tooth.

    • @RDsRCReviews
      @RDsRCReviews  2 роки тому +1

      You're right. I've been getting that mixed up in my head for 35 years I've been building these kits. I don't know why I can't get that straight. Lol. 19t has more teeth so it'll move more gears so it'll go faster but it is bigger with more teeth so less acceleration. I just know that the 19t puts less strain on the brushless motor. Thanks for pointing this out. I feel stupid.

    I just ordered one of these from Tower Hobbies a few minutes ago. Full bearings, CVAs, ESC, $20-off coupon...Seemed like a pretty good deal. I miss looking at the red-edged Tower pages in the back of RCCA from the late 80s / early 90s.

      Me too!! I ordered all my Tamiya kits from Tower Hobbies back in the day. I got this one from HORIZON HOBBY which now owns Tower. Funny how both of those companies are in the same town not that far from me. I didn't realize it came with full ball bearings so I ordered a set of Fast Eddy's sealed ones that I used in this build. You can see all of that in my build video I posted right before this.

    The studder is what others call cogging. That's why racers use sensored brushless motors.

      @RDsRCReviews  Рік тому

      Yep I'm pretty sure that's what I said in the video though I was not certain. Oddly I don't see the cogging in my other cars with the same system but no doubt you want sensored if you are competitive. Thanks for the info!

    • @RDsRCReviews
      @RDsRCReviews  2 роки тому

      Yeah that's correct though oddly I don't get near that much cogging in my other goolrc sensorless brushless kits so it threw me off a bit when it happened. I just finished my 4300kv Blitzer Beetle build today using the same GoolRC combo but with a 4300kv motor and I'm not noticing the cogging yet but I've only driven it indoors so I won't know for sure until I get it outside. Thanks so much for watching and commenting and best of luck on your build!!

    How about replacing that cheap esc with a hobbywing wp-10bl60-rtr esc? I have done that with my Tamiya dn01. I have one of these cheap esc now that I think about it… I have it in my wltoys 104001 paired with 3660 3300kv motor… it does that delay cog thing.

    • @RDsRCReviews
      @RDsRCReviews  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah you make a good point. Oddly I don't get that cogging in any of my other cheap systems including my Blitzer Beetle with the same esc and a 4300kv GoolRC motor. It is sensorless so cogging is to be expected though it seems particularly bad in this one. Thanks for watching and commenting! I'm really liking those smaller and cheaper blue esc's they are often unbranded. They work great for $20 and so far I've seen no cogging from either of them.

    That delay is weird, i had the same setup in a 2wd stampede ran flawless. But think of the delay as a drivetrain saver..... You could also easily run a 4370kv motor with that smaller pinion.

    • @RDsRCReviews
      @RDsRCReviews  2 роки тому

      I believe it is cogging since it is senseless though I don't notice my other cheap ones doing that.

    • @RDsRCReviews
      @RDsRCReviews  Рік тому

      No, I have you admit that cogging is a bit new to me. Can't it also be caused by the motor being sensorless? I'll look into it. Thanks for the tip.

    • @RDsRCReviews
      @RDsRCReviews  Рік тому

      I see your point though. The gear ratio affects how noticeable the cogging is. It is likely geared too high. Being that I used brushed motors for years this was never a problem. I suppose the easiest fix would be to switch it to a sensored motor.

    • @Lander76
      @Lander76 Рік тому
