    I think most players will still want to sign 8-year contracts because the risk of injury is so high, and the long contract protects against the severe income loss it could cause.

    • @JNJ1014
      @JNJ1014 6 днів тому

      Idk man, I'd bet if teams keep pushing for 8 years w/the massive jump in the salary cap, the only way it'll happen is if top players get 90%+ of the total contract coming from signing bonuses & full no-move clauses. No way guys are leaving as much as $30MM on the table w/o other incentives.

  • @deltagolavista1
    @deltagolavista1 7 днів тому +6

    I think a lot of teams are going to start working with internal caps throughout the off season to give themselves better cap flexibility during the season. Any team that continues to spend to the cap in the offseason will be making financial mistakes.

  • @leaf16nut
    @leaf16nut 7 днів тому +4

    There’s two reason to sign long term; you could get hurt and be unable to play OR your game drops off mid 30s when that short term contract ends and your next contract is a fraction of what it could have been if you signed an 8 year deal..
    Either way it’s a gamble

  • @biffstrong1079

    How long till the Leaf's CAP out again?
    20% of 95.5 million is 19.1$ million.
    By 27/28 that's 22.7$ million.
    And the 19.1$ million salary is now only 16.8% of the teams cap. A lot of these long 8 millionish contracts now look great for the teams who signed them.
    Marner is going to be asking for 14 to 15 million.
    Should have traded him last year and shaken things up.

  • @1jazyjaz

    No matter how high the cap goes, I would not give him more than 12 max. He definitely is not worth A. Mathew's money. If he truly means that he loves playing here, prove it buy being less greedy and take less. The team still needs to fill other holes. Brad should learn from other GMs.

      I mean i doubt that. They LOST a huge driving factor. Necas playing with Mack doesn't do anything different than when Moose was. Just not as good as Moose was. Drury isnt gonna be a 2nd line centre in the NHL so i dont see HOW they came out on top. What wingers donthe Avs have? Thier depth SUCKS and that on MANAGMENT. Also you sound incredibly stupid when saying queefs. Go grow up child@pilotamurorei

      Id throw crazy contracts to McDavid, MacKinnon, Matthews, prime Ovechkin, prime Crosby, Makar, Rantanen types, but that’s the thing.
      Marner isn’t part of that category of players, nor is Nylander or Tavares, i think that’s where Toronto fucked up, not giving too much top heavy contracts but to who.
      Colorado has Landeskog probably done playing hockey even if he does comes back and Nichushkin being a nuisance for how many playoffs now ? They see the bigger picture and had to take a tough decision to keep their window open. Injury prone Lehkonen and Drouin are also part of that questionable top6.

      @ Disagree on part of what you said there. Nylander is definitely a top 30 player and worth his deal with the cap expanding and his term. Especially in the playoffs. Anyone watching the leafs the last 3-4 years know he is arguably their most clutch player when it matters the most. Not to mention a 40 goal scorer the last few years.

    In the bubble Pettersson was a PPG player, in the SHL he was the playoffs MVP his last year, so saying that he is a bad playoffs player is just wrong. Yes he wasnt good last spring but he was hurt, lets see before we judge, and I do think that he is still injured or at least suffers the effects of not being able to train properly

    @JNJ1014 6 днів тому

    How are you guys so bad at math, 20% of $104MM is $20.8MM so call it $21MM. If McDavid is smart then he won't give the Oilers much more time to put a winning roster around him. If Edmonton acts logically, they'll pull a Colorado & trade him if he won't re-sign this off-season. If he decides to stay he should only re-sign for 2 more years to give the Oilers one last chance bc he'd be 31 at the end of the 2 year deal, at which point he'd have to choose either money or legacy, I.E. get a max deal from Edmonton or move to a contender.

They don’t have what it takes to win the big games. If they did have what it takes then they would have showed it already. I’m a leaf fan and wish Shanaplan wasn’t an idiot and didn’t hire Dubas.
