@@Hdhfhhdh Ukraine has gotten $100 billion worth of equipment so far. That's less than 1/8th of our yearly military budget. Not that significant over the course of 2 years. And they are getting old equipment that we'll now get to replenish with the latest and greatest, creating jobs and stimulating the economy.
The taxpayer is absolutely obligated to pay for this stuff while the taxpayer supports candidates that support the military industrial complex. We've already gone into endless debt in the name of "defense" and Ukraine has been a tiny drop in that bucket.
So it hasn't been that expensive and it's the most just cause we've been involved in since WW2. Israel, on the other hand, get checks instead of equipment, destabilizes the Middle East and floods Europe with refugees.

Highly medicated 30 minutes prior to this speech
His comments before he went and while he was in Israel were focused on getting aid through the border crossing and into Gaza. Therefore, his homework assignment appears to have been: 1) go to Israel, 2) gently encourage Israel to de-escalate the situation while reassuring them of U.S. support, and 3) get humanitarian aid to Palestinians.
When Biden came back, we got: 1) I told the Israelis to play nice at war, 2) the situation in Israel is very similar to the situation in Ukraine, and 3) I need tens of billions of dollars for Israel's military right away. All of this Biden said publicly before a single truckload of aid was delivered to Gaza.
He was outwitted and wildly out-negotiated by the Israelis. I'm just glad he didn't agree to allow every Israeli citizen to immigrate to New York City should an Arab-Israel War start going badly. Please don't send Biden away from his handlers to negotiate anything important on his own again.

I sympathize with crises’ around the world but can’t understand how we can give 100B in aid to another country but can’t afford to forgive our tuition debt, save programs that involuntary collect our taxes for social security, Medicare and Medicaid; repair and upgrade the infrastructure in our homeland, help our homeless and low income workers; help families, women, and children in poverty and crisis…, address internal threats to our democracy, better K-12 childcare and education, and the list goes on and on…

I mean, brass tax is that the government can very much afford to do these things, it's just that there isn't bi-partisan will to do this, and the non-political lobbies have a lot of influence in stopping this or making it more difficult. Helping other countries or not, especially Ukraine, is not going to change the will to face the very real problems you face day to day, but what it is going to do is make people disenchanted with America and the democratic ideals it stands for (which I don't think Americans realise how strong this sentiment has gotten), and start turning to other countries, authoritarian, undemocratic, etc., for guidance. When I was in South America (2 years), all the time I was told about how much people hate what America has done. The brits don't really favour America, the French don't, almost all of eastern europe, and certainly no one respects the total political decay that is happening at the moment left right and centre. America is in a position of being a world leader in freedom. It did this in 1917, 1945, 1948, 1961, 69, 89, so on and so forth. The UN is literally hq'd in New York because people saw it as appropriate - a stable and impartial land for it to be in, a land where people aren't going to fail to see this role, or start to become disenchanted with democracy themselves. Now America is withdrawing this role, the enemies are scrambling to make gains, and the rest of us are scratching our heads about what to do! I believe, as American philosopher John Dewey himself said, that democratic ideals are the culmination of real community life itself, and also, in an international sense, the responsibility of a nation to be a global role model to inspire awe and admiration. It's not necessarily within domestic rule that that can be achieved. I urge that you guys don't see international commitments and domestic commitments as one or the other - it's really not the case. America makes trillions a year. If you do decide to withdraw from the international stage, it's going to make a lot more problems, both domestically and worldwide.

If you look properly into eyes, you can see some bluring and weird slight movements of pupils. This looks to me like AI generated "constant look into camera" effect, while he actually reads text. Obviously he does, but funny that they try to hide it.
I tried an exercise as I watched this: I put away my cynicism and suppressed the political impulse to be clever instead of attentive. I looked past my idea of the man and remembered clearly-for the first time in a long while-my idea of the office he holds and what it means at a time like this. I let these words cut right through me without feeling like I needed to dodge or be ready for them in some way that affirms where I stand. I strongly encourage others to try this. Pause your racing mind for a moment and recognize the gravity of the moment. History is unfolding so quickly that the world we live in, the world we have interrogated with our perspectives and formed coherent theories of, could soon be no more than a memory that feels more and more alien as it fades away from us. Our partisan nonsense makes us feel like we are above it all. In patriotism there is humility. We remind ourselves that we are very small, and because of that, everything matters. For every glib remark, every pointless retreat from meaning to nihilism that I detest so strongly in those I disagree with, I must realize that to some degree I am looking in the mirror. This isn't about Biden. It isn't about any of us. None of us "woke up" to get where we are now in our heads. The winds of change sorted us into sects, we followed the paths of least resistance, and yet we think ourselves visionaries, founders of our tribes, of some new exciting thing. It's not new. None of it is. It's the same old story from the same huge book, and right now it's open to the page that we happen to exist on. Like the rest of them we will go away forever once that page is turned. To get away from this thought we make our pocket of history into the entire universe, endlessly reading between the lines to find the deeper truth, the one that is hidden. We end up chasing nothing. Just for a moment, by watching this address this way, I felt the weight of time in both directions, plugging me into my species and the eternal thread that ties us together. It feels like an epiphany, and I am pathetically grateful to have caught a whiff of whatever human element I tapped into. I was numb, and now I am raw. Please try this yourself if this sounds like something you need to feel.
