Stubblefield's recordings with James Brown are considered to be some of the standard-bearers for funk drumming, including the singles "Cold Sweat", "There Was A Time", "I Got The Feelin'", "Say It Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud", "Ain't It Funky Now", "Mother Popcorn", and the album Sex Machine. the guy should have been a billionaire. entire genres of music were defined by his feel. RIP. legend.
Right because soooooo many people sampled his beats , but he did it for the love of it
@@Smoothflicks09 he didn't just do it for the love of it....drummers get fucked over...but he deserved way more !
it s a good thing lawless lawyers made sure THEY got rich off his work, them and their filthy oligarch masters
Agreed! And Jabo Starks as well. Truthfully I think all of James Brown’s band deserved more.
He SAID I dont know what I'm doing! I'm serious! That is our blessings of DNA from motherland. I'm serious.
"I wasn't into all that stuff. I was just into groovin and having a good time." Beautiful life lesson.
Clyde is teaching me still...despite not physically being among us...thanks to UA-cam. I love this, while sitting here with sticks and practice pad, taking notes on one of the best drummers in music history as we know it. Glad tech can preserve these priceless people we've admired for so long. Blessings...drummers of the world. Here we are...learning new things and how to improvise on you kit...drum on...the heartbeat of the world, music. I'm a keyboardist but playing drums centers my energy for other instruments played. Guitar, bass, etc. It's all part of the whole here...feeling the beat is something you can't really teach, it's in you or it's not. My DNA says drums are me and rhythm drives the world's groove...Music Diplomacy Now, World. Without music, life here on the planet is boring truth be known.
The best drummer in history is Billy Cobham nobody is touching Billy Cobham that dude play so fast with such speed and accuracy it's scary I've never heard a drummer play like that before and can bring it down to the one with no problem that's who the best drummer is in the world and this dude Clyde he's good too but Billy Cobham is the best hands down untouchable
one of the coolest dudes to ever walk the planet ....his influence on modern dance music can never be overstated
RIP to the drummer who defined funk...Brother Clyde you are still the greatest of all time
Thank you Clyde for your great talent. May you be covered in his Glory. . .RIP.
Great we enjoyed Mr Stuberfields playing on the drums
To think Clyde was able to still get down up until his death is amazing. So highly regarded but financially cheated. Listening to his beats back at his peak is a must! Such a great drummer. R.I.P.
The godfather of funk thank you Clyde
Such an humble man
RIP Clyde
"i don't mess up like that when i'm with a band" --humble badass.
Greatest drummer...a heart for the genre...should have been rich...James Brown was made famous with Clyde steering the ship...RIP brother ♥️🥁🎶
Clyde was a nice guy. A local guy with a world wide reputation. Always friendly and complimentary. I sat in on a gig and the leader had the audacity to call Sex Machine. I said we can't play that, Clyde should play it. Well we played it. I walked over to Clyde and told him I had no business playing that. He was like, naw man, you sounded great. Just play what you feet. Indeed.
THANK YOU CLYDE STUBBERFIELD. RIP. YOU WILL ALWAYS BE A LEGEND. THE BEST.
Hail Clyde! The King of the beats.
This man's solo on Funky Drummer has been sampled by everyone from NWA to Ed Sheeran to the Powerpuff Girls. We wouldn't have a lot of music if he never sat at the set. Now he's groovin' along in Heaven.
Thanks for posting this
RIP Clyde, you are and were an inspiration to many.
Thank you so much OP for sharing. Absolute legend in Clyde. "don't tell me how to do what i invented"
I think your the most awesome drummers of all time.
This man built the very foundation of what became Hip Hop
R.I.P. Clyde.

Agree, they should have paid this LEGEND billions for his royalties...he invented ghost note syncopation and defined several generations of percussionary flavor, pure genius...RIP, the angel are dancing to your pocket grooves brother!!🙏♥️🥰

Wow. A recommended video that I'm happy I watched. One of those people I can listen to for ages. Creative master of his craft. His legacy will survive till the end.
What a great guy :) I smiled throughout this vid. Thankyou
James Brown ain't shit without Stubblefield
He alone changed music history just by playing his drums!!!!! He said himself he didn’t like “ Funky Drummer “but he didn’t know what impact he had made ! Thank you Clyde much respect ✊🏿!
Gotta love this man
Growing up in Madison I was lucky enough to be there when CS resettled in MadTown. As a young kid drumming, I took several lessons with the man. Still working on getting it down Boss. Miss you.
LEGEND !!!!!
My favourite drummer r.ip.
Respect for Clyde and his family. Be safe ! Grts from Europe
It’s all about being the right man for the job.
The funky drummer!
Not gonna lie--I died a little when he said he didnt like Funky Drummer lol.. SO MUCH THAT HE FORGOT HOW TO PLAY IT...well damn.. killed me lol.. He and Jabo are still the GOAT.
legend!
The best ever in my opinion
Madison was listed as one of the best places in the US to live.
What an amazing guy, not in it for the money, just playing because he wanted to have fun and play some drums. Ended up being one of the most sampled drummers in the history of music and couldn’t read or write a note. A life lesson from one of the greats. Respect !
A wonderful kind sole.
The Funky Drummer himself.
Legend.
Every video of this man is a lesson.
This is pretty cool, I love Funk

Damn... RIP. the funkiest
Rest in Peace Clyde.
THE GOAT
Same. Julian :)
What a great guy. The James Brown band (show) was the hottest group around amongst other musicians. They set the standard in performance and any groups playing the same venue would be intimidated by their performance. He’s so humble and down to earth, I don’t think he realizes what a legend he is. What a great loss.
Nimeni Altu'.
The B1G Man!! Respekt
He's as witty as he is funky
RIP
My great respects go to Clyde! He claimed to not know what he was doing, it's because every beat on he provided came authentically from his heart and soul! Feel the music.
No thumbs down clowns 🥁🦈
11:17 I Got The Feelin'
17:15 more drumming
Love Love Love...
Sexy beats. Sex-aaay!
What a talent. A God given natural talent wheew!
And... Such a funny sense of humor! It makes me feel good listening to and watching such a happy person do his thang. Wow. 💃🏻
Thumbs down?! 🤔Idk man
If you dont feel it, it aint right, thats how I feel, i just pick up the bass and jam go with how I feel. Sometimes slow sometimes chaotically fast. But its all feel.
Pick up the sticks and do stuff wit um. So true.
😢
Drumming genius X
First song recorded with James Brown , Cold sweat. Yes thats all you have to say. One of Funks fathers right here.
Hi David Garibaldi! Did you know you were one of Clyde's favourite drummers ?
Fred Saccoccio : mine too👍🏾
Brown was a character, just ask Fred Wesley and Gene Chandler about the Tammi Terrell incident smh
Ik
It's all about the Groove.... thanks Clyde and Jabo, may your souls rest in peace. I really wonder why the audience was, asleep? Not a single soul reacted when Clyde said how good he felt by playing for the soldiers in Vietnam.... pretty sad Y'all, pretty sad.
And the pour souls, that go and lose limbs and die for those bastards in desks who care nothing about people, even their own...... thinkin they fight for “freedom” is sad......but they do kill inocent people, so action- reaction, they become guilty murderers, while wanting to do some good (maybe I don’t really think so) such is the way society works , Americans and everybody, we become guilty murderers by consent and ignorance, the good intentions don’t matter.... you know what they say about them .
Nice Snare tone!
for one of the best drummers of all time, youd think they would give him drums in tune that he was comfortable to play... ?
Get the man a decent pedal!
Open HiHat 4 Real!!
That's what a real kit looks like, the moment I see a drummer with more than 5 drums or a bassist with more than 4 strings, I know I'm not gonna like the sound. There are a few exceptions, (hal blaine or bernard purdie) but no exceptions for bass players lol.
You’re missing out on playing with some great bassists then 🤷🏼♂️
Nope 🙂
OK SO WHAT IS GREAT FROM THIS CLYDE STUBBLEFIELD ? ALL I HEAR IS SAME PATTERN OF DRUMMING. WHY IS HE FAMOUS ? ALL HIS BEAT IS FROM BOOK 1 DRUMS .THE LOWEST BOOK FROM DRUM STUDY.I CANT UNDERSTAND WHAT SO GREAT ABOUT THIS GUY . CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME ?
Listen to the song 'cold sweat' for example... than you´ll understand.. hopefully..
His grooves had a major impact on the hip industry. He is regarded as the most sampled drummer in the world. One groove in particular is sampled heavily and that's the solo from funky drummer, which is actually very hard to play. If not sampled, it was heavily emulated. Look the video "clyde stubblefield never got paid."
Gangsta Nigga, well as a drummer your prime objective is 1) keeping a steady time but possibly more importantly giving the groove, feel, emotion, whatever you want to call it. It doesn't matter how complicated your beats are or how fast you play your fills. What matters is playing for the music and if you dont have the feel your not a good drummer.
Gangsta Nigga ur a idiot
Book 1? Funky drummer is book 1? What are you smoking?
wtf clyde is failing a lot here
He's really old and his health was probably in the decline
@Johnpaul Joshua Lol
RIP Clyde
