- Turning a copper pipe into a ring? It's possible. Follow the video to learn how to recycle old materials and turn them into something amazing.
Want to learn more about making jewelery? I recommend this book found on amazon: amzn.to/2vOeXyB It really helped me with technique and learning how to manipulate the metal!
don't file work on a ring mandrel as it will mar the tool. These scratches will get transferred to later work. Put the ring in a ring holder and brace it against the bench pin when filing.
I just recently got into ring making and don't have a ring holder so I just use old sockets lol
@@quincyharris3068 great idea, thanks
Correct I learn the hard way :-)
Yep what a mess
The best lessons are from making mistakes 😎
Can I ask why you didn't just cut a band from the ring and just use that rather that flattening and reshaping it, or is it purely due to the diameter of the pipe?
if you heat up the metal and then brush with a wire brush WHILE hot it'll go by a lot faster, get the scale off. also copper can be worked hot or cold and if you anneal it, some of the black will come off from quenching too.
If you heat it up and quench it, the structure will move better and the quenching removes most of the crud for you.
Wow, great job, a lot of work goes into one ring.
*It really really awesomely great to have your very own tool room man cave to work in, I would spend years watching UA-cam and copying so much shit I wouldn't have time to sleep!!!*
*Cool vid bro!!!*
Beautiful!
Wow beautiful.
A must try
You already had a ring when it was a pipe. I don’t get the cutting it open and then brazing it back.
Hello beautiful ring. Cam i ask what dod you use to solder with ? I know you used some flux from what i could see. But i didnt see what you used to actually solder it with. Thank you hole you can answer.
Seeing you scratch up your mandrel made me cringe
I've got two, one for hammering and one for sanding/filing
Отличная работа! Спасибо за видео. Подскажите, а каким припоем вы пользуетесь?
V interesting video.
When you say about polishing releases particles, what part of polishing? The compound, the copper, polishing wheel?
Subscribed too :)
Use a pipe cutter. It’s so much easier and makes a better cut
Fun-tastic. Pipe cutter right? As long he was shaping and pounding anyways ? Then nip of extra oh well 🤷
What is a sonic cleaning device? Any temperature/and what types of solvent did you put inside the water?
It's a cleaner from harbor freight, just using the basic solvent that comes with it
Ultrasonic cleaners often just have soapy water in them and use sound waves to dislodge hard to reach peices of contamination. They are often used to clean glassware in laboratories.
don't sand while on the mandrel
I noticed you were using things you had, metal ring sizer, and that was attached to your table.
I live in small apt, what supplies to get to make copper rings (that I can put in a storage bin; portable)?
Mandrel, jewelers saw, small butane torch, copper solder, third hand, ceramic plate, sand paper, and polishing cloth is all you need. Could easily fit in a small tote
Did you try it?
How cool❤ had to buy an expander to try my self... but the copper keeps breaking😢 why is that? Im using a 15mm copper that I need to expand to 17.6mm is the strech to much, or am i dooing something else wrong? Hope someone can enlighten me❤
first time see ur video sir and its very awesome like and sub
Or buy a 3/4/brass olive
I'm searching around for the cutting blade
Do you use a regular butane/propane torch or silversmith torch with oxygen?
I'm using just a regular propane torch in this, copper doesn't require alot of heat to work with
Hay this is Amazing neat project. Say question my Dad says Copper will make my finger back is this true?
Yes, when bare copper is exposed to the elements it's will oxidize to a greenish/black color. That has the possibility of staining you skin. It can be avoided by putting a clear coat finish on the copper prior to wearing any of the jewelry
@@TOMMAKESSTUFF okay sweet thank you. So any clearcoat will do ?
excellent video! did you used a copper wire to weld the tips?
It's a hard copper solder! Has a slightly lower melting point than copper but a similar color so it makes for a good joint
@@TOMMAKESSTUFF cool!
What are a all the measurements?
Hi, I'm looking for a metal rod that you're using at 7:08, but I don't know what its called. Help would be appreciated, thanks.
It's a ring mandrel
@@TOMMAKESSTUFF Yeah, I know that know. Have gotten one. It's called ringregel in Swedish.
Couldn’t you just sliced the pipe instead of all that extra work cutting it heating I making a sheet and strips? There is different pipe diameters 🤔.
is there any special solder for copper?
It's called copper solder, can be found on amazon
Im unidentified Leviathan, and i approve this message
I just gasped at the results! Seriously?!
That was lovely and great. Please I need a pure copper ring. Let's contact.
loved this! what grits did you go threw in polishing with the sand paper? and was any sealant needed?
Start at 400grit and work up to 2000grit. I put a thin layer of clear nail polish on after to keep it from tarniahing
how long did this take you?
Probably about 2hrs at most
Can you please make some couple of rings for me and my girlfriend
What size pipe is this?
I'm pretty sure 3/4"
U might wanna invest in a new hacksaw blade
I want ring copper, logo is "om"
can you please send this ring to my loaction ???
i can make a pre preg carbon fibre ring in about 15 mins total time spent
I can’t quite tell from the video. But, I think you might have your hacksaw blade in backwards.
Фуги сведи плотно иначе шов разорвется потом😮
Kinda doin things the hard way, huh?
Great end result acheived via some questionable skills. I feel sorry for your poor mandrel getting sanded to oblivion.
???why couldnt you simply cut a section of the round pipe to create a ring???.....that was my expectation.
Cause then the size would be too big for the fingersize 😉
thanks
@@minien90 seems like you could simply cut a segment of the ring out and collapse it to the appropriate size with the mandrel.
@@BASEDinMaine yeah, true.
Why not START with a copper sheet and avoid all that fussy business cutting the pipe?
skin reacts with bare copper, don't do it.
Put nail polish or sealer on it and it won't be an issue!
