- In 1993 Holyfield was set to rematch Riddick Big Daddy Bowe in an attempt to take his championship back. Little did either man know that the epic battle would turn into one of the most shocking incidents in boxing, or even in sports, history.

@@richfromtang Tyson fanboy? Thought so 😂
Absolutely it would've. Holyfield was dominating the 1st half, that delay Absolutely benefits Bowe. It would've been a dominating victory for Holyfield rather than a close decision win.
Bowe's hands were like heat seeking missiles, even if you moved they're gonna catch you
Haha that's a great way of putting it!
yeah he made a good point that Holyfield didn't trust head movement alone, since there are a lot of times he catch him as he was moving his head which is insane accuracy
Holyfield was an absurdity magnet. The two most shocking moments in boxing and he was one of three (four in this case) men in the ring each time.
Haha that's so true! I never realized before you said it. He seemed so down to Earth too. Guy is the Rincewind of boxing, can't get away from craziness.
@@TheModernMartialArtistTerry Pratchett's rincewind?
Oh Lord I never thought of this comparison but it's spot on
@@TheModernMartialArtistyo you read Discworld bro? Sick hahah
Holyfield never seemed as invincible as some heavyweights during their prime like Mike Tyson, George Foreman or Muhammed Ali, but he could never be counted out and he had a chance at beating any boxer with will and skill.
Holmes, Tyson, Foreman, Bowe, Moorer, Mercer, Douglas and more, there were losses, draws and various helping circumstances, but in the end his collection of victories is insane.
Holyfield wasn't the most powerful (although he was a KO machine), and he wasn't the biggest man of those heavyweight's you just mentioned in your comment, but Holyfield was a better boxer than both Tyson, and Foreman. Holyfield was as skilled as any boxer in heavyweight history, and he also had one of the greatest chins in boxing history. I also don't think Holyfield gets enough credit for his defensive accumen. A part of why his chin was so great was because he rarely got hit clean in most of his fights. Holyfield could glide around the ring picking his opponents apart, and he could fight an ugly fight when he had to do it. In order to beat Holyfield, you had to have a decent reach advantage, a great accurate jab, good timing, a good chin, and great cardio. Very few fighters have all of those strengths. Bowe, Lennox, Foreman, and Holmes all had those traits, yet Holyfield still beat 3 out of 4 of those guys, and every one of those matchups ended up being great epic fights.
He even got a draw with Lennox!
I feel holy holyfield has always been the most underrated heavyweight champ. Or at least second most underrated. His fights are so entertaining but he just has one of those faces and personalities that makes people not remember him well. Or something I don't know.
Especially for a cruiser moving up. He doesn’t get the plaudits he deserves for that. I’m a flyweight and going up a few kg feels massive..
Holyfield would’ve been putting on 10-15kg .. and would still be the lighter man by a lot most of the time
@@tokivikerness8863 no, people love Holyfield and he was an established draw. That’s why he was able to keep getting heavyweight title shots after his decline had become overwhelmingly obvious.
As boxing fans, We should all love Holyfield! Win or lose, We always got our money's worth! Holyfield is the truest definition of a WARRIOR
Riddick Bowe at his peak was an excellent fundamental boxer, had a great chin, power in both hands, could fight inside or out, and would have been a difficult test for any fighter who ever lived. Historical trainer Eddie Futch said, "Riddick had more untapped potential than any fighter he had ever known."
After Bowe gave prime Holyfield his first loss, making Riddick Champion, he built a mansion and lost all interest in training. Eddie Futch left him. Bowe was finished long before the Golata fights.
"Bowe is the truest definition of a WARRIOR"
@Natalie.Rose.Cameron Sure... Even Futch said what I'll summarize as he had "Potential" to be great. But what is Potential?.. It's nothing more than saying, "You haven't done sh*t yet."
I like Bo and Ill give him credit for fighting a smaller Heavyweight, Evander 3 times is great, but literally actively avoiding the best HW in the 90's, Lennox Lewis is anything but Warrior...
"Ole running chicken BO" ~Lennox Lewis.
@@TheJiggaNasty Someone seems upset 😭

I think Bowe at his peak is one of the best, I love tyson but I think bowe at his peak would of beaten him...badly.
Come to think if it I think you could match up a peak bowe against anyone past or present and he would of done great IMHO
It's totally true. Boxing wise, Bo should have been a legend fan favorite. Bo avoiding Lennox Lewis was disheartening as a hardcore fan 😞
@@TheJiggaNasty "Should have been?" 43-1-0 Undisputed Heavyweight Champ (1992) Riddick is an ATG Hall of Famer. I'm definitely a fan!
@@Maria.Isabella.Sanchez Nah! Lennox Lewis and I would say otherwise
@@TheJiggaNastyRespectfully we can agree to disagree. It's all good.
The way the camera man frantically zoomed into the fan man gliding as to warn viewers will always be hilarious
I always adored watching Holyfield, for me the 90s was the last truly great era of heavyweight boxing
In my personal opinion, I think the 90s Heavyweight Era was the best Era in Heavyweight Boxing ever
He really was the ‘Real Deal’ so many of his competitors had their best nights in the ring against Evander Holyfield. He might’ve not won every match, but he never had a boring fight during his prime.
Holyfield is absolutely mesmerizing to watch his rhythm is impeccable
I don't even know who became champ after Lewis.
Adored watching his elbows?
When I started watching boxing, both Holyfield and Foreman were bald. It's wild when you see old fights of theirs when they had hair.
Although I suppose watching this fight you can see why Holyfield decided to finally say goodbye to his hair. It used to honesty be great, but his bald spot and receding hairline really started to get worse here. Although bald Holyfield is much more intimidating in my mind, think it was a good move to finally say goodbye to his hair.
@lowestcommonDenomanator some say his receding hair is due to steroid.
He had a full head vs Buster Douglas in late 90. This fight was 93 I believe? Crazy how rapid the hair loss in just 2 1/2 years wad
sometimes overlooked this was one of the best trilogies in boxing.
This is easily one of my top 5 favorite heavyweight fights. I actually love this fight more than the first, and third fights between Holyfield, and Bowe. This fight was a technical marvel to watch as a viewer. Both guys had become very familiar with each other stemming from their first matchup, so they both changed their tactics a bit, but still were willing to go toe to toe at times to earn each others respect, and stay physical to a point, but they executed on the inside a lot more intelligently this time around. I think the first fight was a shock for both guys coming right out of the gate, so they ended up fighting a war because both of them got rocked early, and both were throwing major heat after the opening bell (similar to the Hagler/Hearns fight), and both guys were desperate to stay in the fight, and end it. In this second fight, both guys knew exactly what they had to do to beat each other, and they knew not to try to chase a KO victory. Holyfield just executed his gameplan a little bit better than Bowe in this fight, but Bowe still fought like a great champion. It was such a close fight.
I will never not click on modern martial artist video when I see it.. these are the best breakdowns on any site by a mile
Finally- breakdown to the sequel, thanks David!

Holyfield receding out under those punches faster than his hair
As always the very best break downs on UA-cam. Thank you!!
I really enjoy these breakdowns. Your narration is definitely a feature here- I've shown these videos to non-fight fans, and they've been captivated by them.
Specific to this one, I'm getting an idea, though your videos, of how great Holyfield actually was.
Love this channel and series cant wait for the next
2 underrated legends fighting eachother
I’m not sure anyone underrates Evander Holyfield.
Been waiting for this one, David! 💪😎
Thanks! Great video, great fighters! Take care David!
Been waiting for this one since the first fight breakdown
Machete Tyson > Lexxon Lewis > Holyfield > Ridrick Bow
Nothing like a new TMMA video
Thank you
Ooh. Cant wait. Their trilogy was amazing and my personal favorite trilogy in the sport.
Yeah it's one of the few rivals to the trilogy of Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier and I prefer this due to the amount of inside fighting
“Holyfield had the edge in power punches”
I swear he threw 90% power shots over his career. 😂
Great analysis. Love this video.
This trilogy was epic and Bowe in his prime was an absolute beast. He just couldn't maintain it for some reason and that's a shame.
Excellent fight breakdown as usual. I’m sure this has been asked before but do you plan on covering Hagler v. Duran?
Oh that would be great!! 👍👍
I love it. Instant watch when I get a notification
I loooooooove these serious fight break downs!
Seeing you analyze the Holyfield-Moore Fights would be great .
One of my favorite trilogies!
I remember watching this fight live on hbo that night. Crazy shit when fan man popped into view.
Goddamnit. I miss the 90s. Everything was better in the 99s. Every sport, music, America
Love the channel, so this should be fun
Great breakdown as always. Next do Douglas vs Tyson please.
If only usyk had legendary opponents to face he could be remembered like holyfield. The best boxer available won't fight him though and usyk will suffer the most because of it. It's weird how his legacy will be hurt more than the guy avoiding him.
Not to true HW fans. We all know who the real champion is, usyk has a better claim and a better legacy, especially if he beats Dubois and hrgovic and maybe one other contender, if he does that the margin between Tyson’s best opponents and usyks will be too much to not take into consideration
Tyson can't duck him forever unless he truly chickens out and retires then I will have no respect for the man.
An absolute magnificent trilogy
C'mon man!
Will anyone breakdown Tyson Holyfield 1 & 2?
Those were super gritty fights.
And Tyson hit Holyfield HARD in both fughts
Would love to see you do a breakdown of Bernard Hopkin perfect performance against Tito Trinidad
Hey modern, just whanted to ask if you could ever do a takeru breakdown ,i think the 5 kickboxing fans alive would quite appriciate it !

What a fight! Respect for the warriors!
Interestingly, the fight was a Majority Decision for Holyfield by the narrowest margin possible, with the 7th round being the most controversial aspect--mostly because James Miller (a.k.a. Idiot with a parachute) probably changed the course of heavyweight title history. Chuck Giampa had it 114-114 (giving the 7th to Bowe). Patricia Morse Jarmen had it 114-115 for Holyfield (7th round even). Jerry Roth had it 113-115 (and gave the 7th to Holyfield). If either of those two judges who scored it for Holyfield had given that round to Bowe, the fight would have been a draw, Bowe keeping the lineal championship.
Watch the 7th round in real time and you tell me how the hell you score that round. Evander was my favorite fighter growing up, so I won't complain. That said, if ANY round in boxing ever deserved to be a 10-10 even round, it was Round 7 of this fight. If all three had scored it Even, then Holyfield would have won a Unanimous Decision. But, you could make a case for Bowe winning the round, absolutely, and that would have made it a Majority Draw, Bowe keeping the title.
The third fight was entertaining but clearly anti-climactic. Both of the first two fights were for the lineal championship between two evenly matched warriors, obviously the best two in the world (Tyson in the pokey), who never backed down. You make it sound like Holyfield won the first rounds, but actually after three rounds, Holyfield had only been given one of the nine scored rounds. He showed the heart of a lion to claw back.
It belongs on the Mt. Rushmore for greatest heavyweight rivalries, or trilogies. Both men left parts of their souls embedded on their opponents' knuckles.
(Source: I encourage all of you to watch HBO's Legendary Nights documentary on the trilogy.)
This is it. The perfect boxing post. You sir are a true boxing fan.
Sitting there on the talk show, Bowe makes Hollyfield look small.
Bowe is easily the top-5 most talented heavyweights ever
Wow, that truly was a CRAZY fight!
Do the full Trilogy 🙏
I forgot all about this madness... if I wasn't around when it happened, I'd think it was fake news.
Hey man do you still use the Patreon? The MMA content is awesome but I see it's been more than a bit since you uploaded
I'm so happy! My guy uploaded the FAN MAN FIGHT!
Vibranium Chin Sir! Lol
I know Big Daddy. I was a sparring partner of his when he was thinking about coming back after he got out of prison (I’ve been a sparring partner of a ton of the DC area pro’s like Sharmba, Demarcus, Joppy, the Petersons, etc.) and although he was slow he still hit like a freight train.
He was honestly SO kind to me, very complimentary of boxing IQ and ability to break down tape.
I'm not sure if it's just me but it always seems like fighters have worse outfits in rematches than in the first fight.
3:53 how he ducked that 1-2 rocked holyfield had elite movement. And bowe gets the "luckily beat Tyson" rap but was a superb boxer. They had some wars.
I mean… Holyfield most certainly cheated against Tyson, but not more so than in any other of his fights. But “lucky to beat Tyson”? Holyfield won damn near every round.
Glad they fought like fighters.
He wasn't fast enough. Bowe was too strong
Hey Modern Martial Artist.
Can you analyze Alistair overeem clinch clinic against Mark hunt in their second MMA fight
Watching these old classics makes me realize what a bad era of heavyweight boxing we're in now 😂the only heavyweight of today that moves like these guys in the modern era is Oleksandr Usyk and sadly he isn't being given the super fights that someone like fury, joshua or wilder would have gotten if they were nearly undisputed champs holding 3 belts
Forgot this was the "Fan man" fight
I started martial arts to learn how to protect myself I tried all martial arts at my disposal over the years but learned that I couldn’t take any punishment to the head, I always ended up fainting for unknown reasons. Could you do breakdowns on Saenchai, Donovan Weisse, Tawanchai and Chingiz Allazov?

I always loved the music on this channel 🥰 Holyfield a legend 👌💪
Evander Holyfield is the greatest heavyweight of all time. If you don't believe me go check the amount of hall of famers he haves on his record.
He isnt better than ali , joe luis or lennox lewis, but hes up there top 10 easily
Acredito que depois de Ali Holyfield é o melhor. Fez muito pelo boxe e nunca fugiu de um bom combate. Lutou contra os melhores de sua geração. Meu fahorito doa pesados.
Question, man, typically, how long does it take you to put together these videos. So well broken down and insightful.
He sits in front of a script and sends it off to an editor.
@StoneTheCr0w Thanks for the response, but that's doesn't give me a time frame.

Symphony of violence
Holyfield put on a clinic in this fight on how to fight a bigger man.
Please do a pernell whitaker vs oscar dela hoya breakdown and pernell whitaker vs julio cesar chavez breakdown please 🥺?.
Hagler vs Mugabi
Now we're talkin'....
Watching these guys fight makes ppl like Anthony Joshua, Tysons fury Deontay wilder and Andy Ruiz look like they have shit technique. I mean the beautiful slips and duck unders, the beautiful timed punch block counter with the same hand, just top notch in term of technicality.
boxing evolution has stopped after reign of lewis , in klichko brother reign boxing have been going to shit up to today, I hope it will rebound again but I have suspicious about it .

What's your favorite fight
Dunno about you guys but I much prefer mutual respect to crass trash talk
10:45 Bo like ah sht this dude can't knock me out no more
How can you see both fighter move?where you look when you watching boxing or mma match you look at both fighter hands, face or what?
13:20 "...and the rest of the trash" ROFL the man is universally hated haha
Ohhhhhh yhhhh
We dont see much in-fighting nowadays.. its usually just a clinch a few sloppy punches then a break up.... A guess its become a lost art...
Fortunately no one was seriously injured by fan man. That could have been a lot worse.
Careful eye and I believe Stallone is in the background, far right side of the ring. 16:16
The fan man was hilarious 😂
Machete Tyson > Lexxon Lewis > Holyfield > Ridrick Bow
So THAT'S why moe did that on The Simpsons
Bigdick Rowe vs Hellwander Oilfield
Riddick bowe is taller but i wouldnt say hes the bigger man here. look at the size of holyfield's torso vs Bowe's. they both have strange proportions but that's typical for professional athletes at the very top.
Threw his belt in the bin due to being too scared to fight Lennox Lewis.
I watched this live in real time as a kid
If Bowe was generally disciplined, he could have killed everyone in that era for a longer period, except Lewis. The Lion was very intelligent, but he would have had for sure many difficulties.
And we hear clowns hear and there talking about Tyson .Those guys were the real killers. If Bowe have met Tyson on ring,he would had eaten Tyson alive.
First Lets gooo
Please do Holyfield's game plan in his fight(s) with Tyson. There are just too many sheep fans that actually think The Real Deal spent the entire fight holding and headbutting his way to victory.
I’ve been watching boxing for 30+ years. Evander Holyfield is one of the most skilled, complete fighters I’ve ever seen. His strategy for the Tyson fight consisted of willingly fighting Tyson inside (much to everyone’s surprise), holding when advisable, juicing himself in enough HGH to kill a small horse and head-butting with impunity.
Now, to be fair I will say that post-prison Tyson’s tendency to come in wildly, trying to set up an overhand right (instead of the pre-prison picaboo head movement to set up hooks and uppercuts) greatly aided holy in this endeavor. But anybody who knows boxing knows that the boxer who used to wear trunks that said “HEAD” on them was a dirty fighter and maybe the most notorious headbutter in boxing history.
Skilled? Yes. Full of determination? Most definitely. Dirty? Absolutely. That’s Holyfield.
@@SKa-tt9nmboth fighters were pretty dirty although up until the ear bite in the rematch holyfield was dirtier although Tysons tendency to catch fighters with his elbow during hooks was pretty bad too
Fan man, so that's where the simpsons got the idea from
