      Except deflecting small debris when exiting warp so you wouldn’t run into it. You know the thing it was designed for.

    Interesting. 51, 450 divided by 150 is 343, or 7 to the 3rd power. Some Star Trek sources have implied that, in the TOS and ENT era, the number of the warp factor taken to the 3rd power, or cubed, is the number of times the speed of light. If this is indeed canon, then the top speed of Discovery (without the spore drive) has just been given as Warp 7. Not quite as fast as the Enterprise, but still pretty decent.

      Top speed, and Top SUSTAINABLE Speed are two very different things. In TOS, they could run at warp 7, or even 9+ sort short periods, but usually cruised at 2 or 3

    • @k1productions87
      @k1productions87 3 роки тому

      @@stemerri6020 I never understood why they would cruise at such low speeds, especially in episodes where it was urgent to get somewhere and they still only go between 2 and 4. TNG was particularly egregious with this.
      But then TOS also had a precedent of fighting while at warp as well, so there's that lol.

      @@k1productions87 Likely it was fuel consumption, or because the engines would overheat at high warp for too long. Or some sort of structural issues where traveling at high warp causes a lot of stress on the hull, and if you stayed at high warp for too long, it could cause structural failures.

    • @k1productions87

      @@ThePointblank if they were cruising at Warp 5 or 6, I would get that,... but not 2 to 4. "Sustainable cruise velocity" is there for a reason. Its the speed in which the ship remains structurally sound and can run almost perpetually. For the Galaxy-class Enterprise, this is likely in the Warp 7 or even 8 range.

      Warp speed has never been consistently portrayed in Star Trek. In TOS the notion of Warp Factor cubed x the speed of light = the ship's velocity was what Roddenberry had intended, and there was no theoretical maximum (in TOS, the maximum warp factor that the Enterprise ever achieved was something like 14 or 15 - the limit wasn't in terms of warp physics it was simply what the engines were capable of - in the case I mentioned, it was due to aliens tampering with the engines). When TNG came around, they re-calibated the entire warp scale and made it asymptotic to Warp 10, but was much faster than the TOS scale overall.

      Discovery is garbage compared to the older series. If you want to watch good Trek, go for TNG or DS9. Heck even Enterprise had its moments.

      But noisy, there's got to be better out there.

      Spock in TOS, Vulcan know-it-all that irritated McCoy
      Data in TNG (closest thing they had to a Science Officer), Android know-it-all that irritated the Captain
      Wesley Crusher in TNG, child prodigy know-it-all who also irritated the Captain
      Jadzia Dax in DS9, Trill know-it-all that tried not to flaunt it
      Julian Bashir in DS9, genetically enhanced know-it-all who irritated... everyone
      pretty much the entire cast of Voyager who spouted such mind-numbingly asinine technobabble that viewers left the show in droves

    • @OptimusWombat
      @OptimusWombat 3 роки тому +7

      Spock and Data would have been considered "know it alls" as well. So what's your specific beef with Burnham?
