Because of you Andy I am going on my first backpack camping trip since I was in high school (30+ years). In about a month my 18 year old son and I will be on our first 'test' camp (about .5km from the car) to try out all of our new gear, and to prepare for longer, multi-day trips. Thank you for sharing your adventures and for inspiring this old man to get back out there!

As I’ve mentioned before, I save these videos for my nighttime viewing. Peaceful end to the day. It’s like he’s a friend, speaking directly to me. And I like the way he enjoys whatever he consumes.
Yeah… I haven’t been camping in years and every time I watch you I feel like I’m there with you. Every time I smell campfire smoke I’m taken aback to camping with my family, songs around the fire. Going to bed in a tent and listening to the adults singing, laughing and talking us kids to sleep, wish I could go back to that time.
It’s great for shower resistant rain coat, made it almost waterproof, same goes for canvas shoes and for ladies nylon shopping bags. I know it works as I’ve done this on my clothes. I’m sure it’ll work on tents too. Best wishes in your camping.
It's great to see you so cool under adverse conditions and still find some joy in the experience and making the sacrifice to test equipment for the viewers. God bless you.
🇦🇺🖐Hi Andy. Your humour makes me 😅. Especially your reaction to rain in your lantern. With oh well another beer 🍺 😅😅. This camp would test my patience 😅😅.,just as well you do for us 😅😂. Great job 👏 👍.
After watching all of your hot tent / wood stove videos over the past few years, I took a leap of faith and ordered the Pomoly Chalet 70 Pro and the Winnerwell Nomad Small wood stove for this year’s camping season. Waiting on their arrival and I can’t wait to improve an already efficient, organized and comfortable camping experience. Thanks for everything you do for all of us, Andy. You’re such a joy to watch every week.
That storm reminds me of the first year I worked in the disabled campsite at Glastonbury. It was the year of the famous flood. A baptism of fire. I woke up around 5am due to the strength and noise of the rain and I heard shouting. They were asking for anyone available to help out rescuing people. We were 15 minutes from the festival being cancelled but luckily the rain stopped. How on earth they managed to cope with the ensuing mud and help everyone out is testament to how good they are. I've worked there ever since.
@@im-Sara-Jayne. Well, they don't actually. It's usually the drier month. But it's more than that. It's about a lot of things like infrastructure, the site, artists and so on. My friend, I feel you. My first year volunteering at burning man, was the year of the Locust. Took a few years off, then I went and volunteered last year and it flooded. 😐
@@inthewastes Cheers. Though to be fair, while it was harrowing at first, the organization is WELL on the ball and competent so it was no biggie. That's a major reason I stayed with them. What an amount of work you put in to making these videos. Let me tell you it’s amazing and really appreciated. At times I’m sure it’s a little overwhelming or uncomfortable for you but I admire you and envy you. Fair play. ☘️🇮🇪👍
I liked the little tent - handy for camping alone. For pots and pans, I've gone to the thrift stores. Cutlery, pans, a metal plate or 2. Simple and if you're careful, better quality. Good video again Andy.
I love camping in a storm. As long as I have secured my tent properly to prevent getting wet! So gorgeous to watch the sky and the freshly washed plants. Thanks for sharing!
I have been binge watching your videos since I discovered you 2 weeks ago. I love camping and I like the way you present new equipment . Your videos are a breath of fresh air. What I particularly like is that you always show affordable stuff unlike some who seem to need a truck to carry their extremely long/tall and expensive tents. You are also showing us a love and respect for nature in a very simple way. Thank you Andy!
Watching from France. Going out myself Tues/Weds/Thurs. I'll be videoing myself sketching watercolours in the woods. Always a lot of prepping just for a couple of nights but well worth it.
As always you put out another great video, here in Oklahoma, U.S., it's well known the Walmart brand of camping gear is not real durable. It's for the weekend fair weather campers. But it sounds like it held up ok. One of my favorite parts of your videos is your sign off at the end. It seems so sincere, warms my heart!
It seems, to me, that Ozark Trails equipment is hit or miss. I have to see it before I buy it, to check the seams, zippers and whatnot. I want to compare the wall tent they have to the one sold through Sportsman's Warehouse. It's a couple hundred dollars cheaper, but I want to know if it is lower quality or if I'd be paying for the brand name. I think that is the key to buying from walmart, always see if it is worth the savings.
Andy.. I'm starting to get the feel for camping. I've warched you for years and years... now I've spent a night in a yurt! I am so proud of myself. Massive step.
Every other handicap aside the pop-up tent looks like a very nice choice for creating a micro climate during a power outage. Set it up on any bed twin or larger, likely double/queen and presto body heat retained and heating fuel saved.😊. Thanks !
We are lucky not to have to worry about predators or nasty small animals like snakes. And mostly crime is low, certainly way out in the countryside and away from city centres and estates.

In North Carolina we get these lines of thunderstorms in summer that only last about 15 minutes. Move in and out very fast with torrential rain, strong winds that bend and twist the trees, pretty scary, lots of lightning....and then they’re gone...sun comes out birds start singing 😳🇺🇸
My Irish husband had never seen rain like that and was equally terrified and awestruck to watch a large retention pond fill up in less than 10 minutes. Love and miss my homestate!

Hey Andy, I used to love camping and cooking before I got Multiple Sclerosis. I can now relive my happy times from my bed/ wheelchair watching your camping adventures. Thank you
I went camping 4 years ago after a 30 year hiatus! I bought an Ozark Trail tent two days before I left. The package said sleeps 3! Did not Read the Fine Print! It is 7ft by 7ft in a teepee shape!I'm 6 feet 2 inches tall. The air mattress is 6 ft. My sleeping bag( Winter) was 7 Ft. It rained the second night! Everything that was touching the tent got Wet ! Live and learn! Dropping the plate after the second burger and stating that you " got it done"! Nice! Thank You Andy
I love using the Ozark back pack, perfect (if not a little tight) for my light overnight camping trips, fits everything I need. 2 water bottles food cooking system Tarp inflatable mat sleeping bag/down quilt spare clothes I do pack compact though, but I've been using it for a good while, it has seen some distance and is still holding up well 👍👍👍👍
All ways wash and clean gear before a trip. Set up at home to dry run especially new equipment. Printout a check list. Be sure to carry. A pocket notebook. And pencil to add things to that list... Might add a reminder to why. Add recipes you might get from others. Note how others use equipment.
Watching your videos about testing equipment reassures me that even the cheapest kit essentially works nowadays. When I started camping in the 70s as a Boy Scout, I had a cotton canvas tent and backpack, and a huge cotton with flannel lining sleeping bag which soaked up water like a sponge.
I have that exact same tent 😢 and yes it is easier to set up then any other tint i have ever owned. It is not ,I repeat not good in the rain. We found out the hard way. Everything was soaked. We did get ours on sale for $18 each it's an awesome tint for that price 😎
Brilliant! It feels like you enjoyed this one. Great feedback and saw pack down. Got me thinking to do this for myself. Cheers Andy. I'm getting some Polly's beer before I do! Thanks for doing this quite ge talent!
Hey Andy, been subbed for a long time, I just want to say your videos are a delight. Very relaxing. And as much as I enjoy bushcraft and all that, the reality is when I go camping I want to be as comfy as possible along with eating well. So thanks for the reviews on affordable gear and thanks for camping in the rain! Having done it many times it is not a great time. Although always memorable. Cheers!
I love how easily your Northern Hemisphere wood splits! Here in Australia, sometimes it's nigh on impossible to split the various eucalypt species even with a 3kg maul! I like watching your tests of the various camping & hiking gear. Keep up the good vids 👍
Thank you so much, at 67 I am going camping again - haven't been since a kid in the 60's/70s when tent poles were wooden 😁. I am particularly grateful for your Temu/Shein videos, I really liked the look of the Shein and would have bought it but for your review. I felt so sorry for you that morning, waking in a puddle is never good 😁. So again thank you for all your reviews I am sure you have saved people so much money/soggy mornings.
Hey Andy, A tarp hack we use that is brilliant : If you lower the windward corner of your tent flap/tarp. you first illuminate any puddling, all the rain water will flow to that now corner which stops any dripping around the edges. lowering the windward corner will block the side rain, you can use that corner as an efficient way to collect fresh water. and lastly. because all the water is being funneled to that one corner you can make a trench to funnel all the water away from your dry area...Hope this helps. BTW I really enjoy most of your recipes. I just can't wrap my head around blood sausage tho.
You should move to Tasmania mate. Similar weather and scenery to the South Island and apparently us Tasmanians are like Kiwis with our heads kicked in 😂
Hi Andy, Great video I love that you laughed as the lantern was filling up with water lol, I love your easy personality nothing seems to get you down, Brilliant 👍
That wind makes me sleep like a baby. In fact, back in the day I purchased a CD that had some recordings of timber wolf howls just because most of it was recordings of wind whipping through the rocky mountain pines. It was amazing for sleeping. You only heard the wolves every once in a while, but for the most part it was just....wind... Very much like around the 41:06 mark of this video... ☺
What up up Kent. Cool cool camping show. Truth is am a 76 yr old Vietnam vet. Got past issues. Watching the show is better than the couches I get to go camping too. U are a pretty good cook too
Cool videos. You inspire a lot of people to get outside and camp. I know you do fresh out of the box product reviews, but I have a recommendation for your newly inspired campers. Pre Camp: While at home, setup all your equipment, make sure its all there. Wet your empty new tent down with a waterhose. This causes the seams to tighten up as it dries, and helps you find defects. Consider a Bivy Sack (raincoat for your sleeping bag) they are cheap. HAVE FUN!
I’ve been buying my wool and silk clothes at thrift stores at the end of season here in Northern California. Sometimes I need to do a bit of darning to repair little holes but the prices are so reasonable. These are my outdoor clothes so I don’t care. Plus I’m learning to repair them. I enjoy learning skills. 😊
I wonder if that's the thunder storm we was promised on Monday? Well thanks to your temu video, I adjusted your camping methods to our Basecamp set up around our private allotment, ridge line, basic tarp, cooking gear, Dutch oven ready and even made our own ikea camping twig stove for a cuppa in the morning. Alas gone before I got going as hubby's already getting ready to build a shelter instead, fair enough though, cooking and firemaking still to be enjoyed and I'm sure the tarp will still come in handy at some point. Still ploughing through your back catalogue videos and mates channels. Just wanting the rain to do one for a bit, if they got it right, we have it dry up in Notts for a few days, can't wait!
It turns out that England is also in a temperate rainforest zone. Most of the original old forests are gone from the island. Only a very few small remnants remain. Those contain massive old oaks just covered in moss. I bet they inspired JRR Tolkien in his concept of the Ents.
Great vid as ever, you should consider using a British army bivvy bag when testing new tents and in storms. You are guaranteed a dry nights sleep if the tent does leak or even if it blows away altogether for that matter. I used one in my latest camping video, cracking bit of kit.
Laughed soo hard when you said " oh no, the lantern is filling with water 💦" .... The way you said it was very funny and animated - gosh how i wish i could go camping with you. The laughs we would have, such fun. Oh well only in my dreams.
These videos are wonderful. Andy is such a nice guy. I really would love to have a beer by the fire with him and swap some camp recipes. This looked like real fun!
I really enjoy watching your show Andy. I consider you a gentlemen camper, something about your style and you are very knowledgeable. Your show relaxes me....Are you a chef in real life? Anyway great job, I really appreciate you. Kind regards, Sheryl...and hands down you are the 'best' wood splitter and fire starter. Also I trust your reviews.
Your the best outfitter when it comes to a pleasant attitude out in that weather. I enjoy watching you get set up, get some tasty looking comfort food and beers.
Hi Andy.loving your channel.I can’t wait for you to light the fire & your cooking 🍳 before I get my beauty 💤 thank you so much. Uk
I love using the Ozark back pack, perfect (if not a little tight) for my light overnight camping trips, fits everything I need.
2 water bottles
food
cooking system
Tarp
inflatable mat
sleeping bag/down quilt
spare clothes
I do pack compact though, but I've been using it for a good while, it has seen some distance and is still holding up well 👍👍👍👍
Oh man i love the sound of rain and thunder. Thanks for the great content mate. Cheers from Montreal Canada 🇨🇦 😊
All ways wash and clean gear before a trip. Set up at home to dry run especially new equipment. Printout a check list. Be sure to carry. A pocket notebook. And pencil to add things to that list... Might add a reminder to why. Add recipes you might get from others. Note how others use equipment.
Andy: "Oh no! The lantern's filling up with water! Oh well, I'll have another beer." 🤣🤣🤣
Best part of your videos is when you cook. It's always some yummy looking morsels. Good job ole boy.
Cheers!
Yay! Thank you! I keep thinking about how campers should drop one corner or edge on canopies in rain! I feel better now.
I love how easily your Northern Hemisphere wood splits! Here in Australia, sometimes it's nigh on impossible to split the various eucalypt species even with a 3kg maul!
I like watching your tests of the various camping & hiking gear. Keep up the good vids 👍
Gotta love an Andy video !!
Absolutely love these videos. Trying camping gear from different places. Thank you for trying weird gear so we don't have to. 👌
Watching Andy in the weather makes me homesick for NZ (Horizontal rain 😅😅). But instead I deal with the heat of Western Australia🥵🥵🥵😎❤️👍🇦🇺
You should move to Tasmania mate. Similar weather and scenery to the South Island and apparently us Tasmanians are like Kiwis with our heads kicked in 😂
You are always so peaceful no matter what the weather is, it's a great thing to see
Hi Andy, Great video I love that you laughed as the lantern was filling up with water lol, I love your easy personality nothing seems to get you down, Brilliant 👍
With a the deep green folige and blue flowers, spring time in the english woods looks beautiful.
Another great Wednesday video from Andy thanks for sharing this amazing video like your new tent and camping gear thanks Andy
I love this channel and the guy is such a great presenter. More power to you. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
What up up Kent. Cool cool camping show. Truth is am a 76 yr old Vietnam vet. Got past issues. Watching the show is better than the couches I get to go camping too. U are a pretty good cook too
Yes! Can't wait to watch this later this evening!! Ty Andy!!
Cool videos. You inspire a lot of people to get outside and camp.
I know you do fresh out of the box product reviews, but I have a recommendation for your newly inspired campers.
Pre Camp:
While at home, setup all your equipment, make sure its all there.
Wet your empty new tent down with a waterhose. This causes the seams to tighten up as it dries, and helps you find defects.
Consider a Bivy Sack (raincoat for your sleeping bag) they are cheap.
HAVE FUN!
It’s the fly on the burger for me, chilling in the heat
More protein.
lol i was looking for your comment i seen it too
Good bit of rain ☔ love the smell pf a good spring rain 🌧️:) Great post this week 🫖🌷🧦👍🍻
Great to see camping on a budget is achievable and in storms, but the shelter from the trees must be welcome, and terrifying at the same time
"Come in she said I'll give you shelter from the storm" thanks Tomo
When using a stick to prop up the center of a tarp, I use a cheap plastic cup over the top of the stick to protect the tarp.
Your constant rain and lush beautiful campgrounds remind me of the Pacific NorthWest USA. Love your channel! These little challenges are fun to watch.
Ooooooh I love a bit of 🌧️ on a camp !! Enjoyed 👍🌧️💋
Excellent piece of filming. A very fair test of equipment too.😎☯️
Your the best outfitter when it comes to a pleasant attitude out in that weather. I enjoy watching you get set up, get some tasty looking comfort food and beers. I don't drink much any more, but I do remember my beer drinking days, trying everything from around the world as well. Thanks for a great distraction from this world! God bless!
Fantastic video fantastic camp and camping fantastic food and cooking. Look forward to you next week. Keep the great work up your friend Luke from the UK. 🇬🇧
I don’t camp, but I’m learning a lot about it,so maybe some day I’ll try it , thanks you for sharing your experience with us.
We always look forward to Wednesday evenings- what's Andy been up to and what's he cooking?!. That tent didn't do too badly, though the cooking pans definitely not up to your standard, but hey, it's great to see what can be done. Love the bluebells and the treea swaying in the wind....thanks for another fab vid Andy!!
I'm from Australia but I'm really enjoying your camping videos.
As you can imagine people in Queensland Australia have a different camping environment. But the basics are the same.
Really great content.
You are a lucky man i would love to be in a tent in the rain ☔ i haven't done that for years 😊
I came to New Zealand from Wiltshire over 50 years ago and I still remember the bluebells and primroses in Savernake Forest. We don't get anything like that in the bush here
I appreciate how respectful you are of your surroundings; making sure the area isn't unduly damaged, left tidy etc.
Brilliant channel.
I love the sound of your voice. Even when the weather is diabolical, your soothing chuckle is so relaxing.
