I dont gey emotional often, but that image. Superman, no, Clark Kent looking at the Earth and saying "I love you" legit brings tears to my eyes. Ive been through bad BAD periods of depression and one of the things thats helped me is looking into Superman and what makes him so Super. He is an embodiment of hope, kindness, and the good of humanity. Superman isn't a god. Superman isn't an alien. Superman is a man who does what he can to make the world a better place. He's who we should all strive to be. He may not be a biological human, but inside, he's just as human as the rest of us.
That "youre special" from pa kent made me cry smuch, not just because of the raw love showed but because it reminds me so much of my loving dad who passed away 2022, that love and care is something i still miss to this day, wonderful video truly Rip dad, you were always my superman
The beauty of these short stories is that they remind us that true strength comes from empathy, humanity, and love. When I read Super-Sons, it made me so happy to see how lovely and polite Jon was. Superman, Clark, is an awesome superhero and will always be because of his golden heart.
You know I'm really glad I've been seeing a recent resurgence of interest in Superman. I think it partially maybe because we're just exposed to so much bad news nowadays. Climate change, poverty, war, and just the overall knowledge that so many of our politicians and leaders are failing us really bums people out. It's so easy to just give up hope and become a doomer. But Superman reminds us that even he can't solve every problem or save everyone, but he always tries his best because he knows that if we all give up on fighting for truth, justice, and the good in people, nothing will get better for certain. And if we all could be like Superman in terms of morals and acting upon those morals, the world would be so much better. That's why his character is timeless and one we should all try to emulate.
I love the bit in which Clark Kent verbally disarms the robber. More specifically, the cashier telling him even though he isn't Superman, he'll always be her Superman. It made me laugh and well up at the same time.
Daniel Warren Johson deserved an Eisner that year for that story, hands down the best depiction of Supes I have seen since All Star Superman. Great vid, thanks for sharing!
I read that comic he called the magnum opus. man it made me tear up. Pa Kent filled his childhood with so much love that Superman has enough to share it with the entire world that when he looks at the world, and he says he loves it and he is proud of it. If that isnt superman, i dont know what is.
This made me tear up a little bit. You beautifully encapsulated everything I love, not only about Superman, but what originally made comics so near and dear to my heart to begin with. Thank you for this video, you managed to reaffirm something that I have felt that has been missing (mostly thanks to the industry being coopted by preachy mouthbreathers who detest the very work they're creating) from comics and the "fans" (its been harder and harder to find people who are legitimately fans of the books and not as a consequence of the movies) who now utilise the medium as a vitriolic platform for belittling and beleaguering anyone and anything that doesn't perfectly fit into the pidgeonhole of whatever checklist of personal beliefs they've had uploaded to their hive mind that day. So thank you for showing me that true love for the media that has given me so much enjoyment and escapism from my personal woes still exists. I wish you all the best for the future, not just with your channel, but in every aspect of your life. May it be full of possibilities and happiness. With love.
I appreciate this comment so much. It’s honestly amazing how much love people have for Superman… I wish nothing for peoples viewpoints to change on Superman which is part of the reason I made this video.
Thank you, Anwar, so VERY MUCH for making this video! This is the Superman that I grew up. When I was little, every Friday my mom used to take me and my sister to buy one comic book for each of us.
Part 2: My sister would usually buy an Archie comic. Meanwhile, I would usually buy a superhero comic, usually Superman/Action. Growing up in the 70's, I fell in love with Superman. I loved that he represented hope. And he was always willing to fight for "truth, justice, and the American way." Why? Simply because it was the right thing to do. That "Superman:Red and Blue" comic seems to be the hero that I fell in love with - both reading the comics and watching the Christopher Reeve movies. 😍💖😍
Superman represents the best of humanity while not being human. He sees everything from an outsiders POV with humans and earth and sees the beauty of it. That’s what makes Superman one of the greatest fictional heroes of all time
Almost teared up while at work, love how I had to be 30 before realizing the true nature of Superman. I honestly don’t think it’s my fault as the cartoons and movies I have watched failed to humanize him, and where I’m from I have no access to comics.
The music at the end was supposed to fit better but the initial video got copyrighted so I just reused the masterpiece of a soundtrack by Hans Zimmer because yeah… perfection.
I was teaching my self to walk again as a child and that last panel inspired me to be as tactical as Batman, compassionate as the flash ,and a good human like Superman
Honestly, I’ve been going through a lot. But this video has kept me going. The way you talk about hope, give me hope. I can’t thank you enough for making this video!
That is a beautiful story indeed. And I’m glad someone else loves it as I do. That said, there’s no need to put what Snyder did, down. Snyder’s Superman was not dark or edgy. His WORLD was dark and edgy much like ours. And Clark is faced with very tough choices in those movies. Yet at his core, Snyder’s Superman is hopeful, kind, heroic. He looks for guidance, from his father, from his mother, from Lois, from a priest. Even when he meets Batman, he tries to talk things out with him first. it’s a Superman at his beginnings. He struggles, loses his father and keeps trying to do the right thing. Even the possible Apokolips on Earth Superman is a Superman that was pushed to the edge. Zod pushed him to the edge as well. Was everything that Snyder did perfect? No. He made the same Superman we all know but in a realistic setting. I’m sick and tired of people putting Snyder down when I saw with my own eyes that he loved Superman and had a path, a journey for him but you all wanted a realized Superman from the get go.
Facts, I feel like he took a lot of his experience from this comic and placed into into his rendition of Optimus prime, ESPECIALLY at the deer scene, god those panels make tear up every time.
I've never had a comic affect me as much as that chapter did. The first time I read it I was full-on ugly crying at how beautiful it was. To this day it still chokes me up to read. All of Red and Blue is incredible, right up there with All Star, Man of Tomorrow, Kingdom Come, etc. but that one chapter is elevated so far beyond just being a comic for me.
I have to say something like this actually gives me hope not just in humanity like one of those star man edits but also in comics. It’s a simple, anthology comic done almost entirely in red and blue and seems to keep to simple almost cozy stories. It’s a work of artistic and writing skill that seems to get buried under the unending event comics, 41 flavors of new gritty Batman (tm), and the latest excuse for hero’s to fight each other instead of crime.
Loved the video!💕 Just started my comic book collection and found Toon Haven. They offer a huge variety of digital comics for every genre, and lifetime updates too!😍
THANK YOU!!! So many problems with Snyder’s MOS. The neck snap, Jonathan saying “maybe”, Clark trashing that bully’s truck, etc. I just got a bad feeling this new film coming out next year is gonna be total garbage.
So glad somebody else gets it. Superman tackles pretty much everything and is considered overpowered - but his level of antagonists is damn-near cosmic level in strength/power or have abilities that can change the world as we know it. That's the conflict part of it. Superman isn't just the "super." He's more the "man" than he's accredited. It's his heart and compassion that makes Kal-El one of my favourite heroes for the past 50+ years. As for killing Zod? He did that in the comics, too. It's the why he did it and what it did to him, afterwards that counts. He may have a "no killing" rule, but he learned a hard lesson that there are times when you need to do things you are against if the innocent are going to survive. War taught me that part. I can only strive to be half the man this fictional character is written, but I think it's a good standard to uphold. >steps off of the soapbox
Beautiful work, truly. Thank you Awda, for your contribution to keeping the spirit of Superman shining on even in a world increasingly consumed by cynicism, continuing to remember and remind others of the eternal value of sincerity and compassion. It is people like you, continuing to hold those values, and above all, hope, in their hearts, that reassures me and reminds me there is ALWAYS hope for humanity's tomorrow. Thank you Awda; all the best to you.
What everyone totally skips out on is the friend part of Superman. Every comic I see of Superman helping innocent people they never nail the friend aspect of him. This comic is simply beautiful when I read it.
I may need to track down this book. Also, I've heard Gunn's Superman movie will take heavy inspiration from All-Star Superman, which is another great book that i love.
The best video about Superman I've ever seen, because you truly understand the character and explain it so beautifully. Thank you, and long live the man of tomorrow!
Hey man, lotta folks talking up Supes in these comments. I want you to know you’re showing some good talent for video essays. Really good editing, great execution of thesis, and a fabulous compare/contrast without bluntly saying it. If continuing this, I recommend writing your scripts out if you don’t, getting either a better mic or better recording room, and consider just getting more clips than you need on any subject and then when you’re good to edit, you have more than you need for any one segment. Selection/options is key for including clips. Best of luck. I’m proud of you. You’re special.
I'm really glad to see the recent "reclamation" of Superman. Between the Snyder flops, and the "Superman but evil" trope that got tired very quickly, it's nice to see a return to form for the Man of Steel. It's like you said, he's the embodiment of hope.
love it when people actually take time to do their research and enjoy a "boring character" instead of just watching the movies and thinking that's their full depth
I hope more people remembered that Superman is Superman not because of his godly powers, but because he is a humble and kind man. And he makes you want to do and be better through the little things that matter, just like he does.
I am hopeful that Superman Legacy will show us why Superman is the symbol of hope and James Gunn seems to understand Superman's role as a whole in the whole DCU.
On that 90s Superman show Lois And Clark, he once said to Lois, who I think just found out Clark was Superman, that "Clark Kent is who I am, Superman is what I can do."
Zack Snyder ruined how we all viewed Superman those who actually know about Superman know that he is the greatest superhero ever not because of his powers but because of his heart he's the most pure of heart superhero he's such a kind and caring guy Superman's greatest power isn't the ability to fly or see through walls it's his kindness Superman can save the day without even using his powers just by listening and caring enough to give someone a little light when they need it the most I wish the movies understood that
Man of Steel was very refreshing. The next movies were crap because they were focused on attracting fans by using obvious stories or bits from old stories but they never fit in the live action movies. It wasn't Snyder's fault, it was Wb's. They wanted to be like marvel and they ended to be nothing.
I always thought Allstar was the best depiction of him. The confrontation with Lex at the end is perfect, it sums up why they're perfect foils of each other. They're both people with gifts that mark them a super in some respect. But Lex is so caught up in his own superiority and need to prove that to the rest of the world, that he couldn't get out of his own way long enough to do anything that mattered. Whereas Kal see's the value in everything and commits himself to the service of others, because that's what matters.
I just really love the old fashioned superman. He's literally the face of superheroes. Of course not with his corrupted versions and the ones who kills...
I love that moment in All Star Superman where Lex gains his powers. Then he starts to see the world the way his enemy does. Sees how everything is connected. Then the power fades and Lex panics “I finally understand! I could have saved the world!” Superman “You’re a billionaire. If you cared, you could have saved it a long time ago.”
Beautiful video man. I for the longest time saw Superman as someone who was great but not as deep as characters like Batman or Spider-Man. Now I know that not only is he a very deep character. But probably one of the most important for all of us to recognize in our lifetime.
I hope this gets more recognition. An incredible peice that reminds us all of what we truely admire...and would rather be. Loved, and Loving. Keep up the good work!
I saw the same panel yesterday in a Starman-Superman edit Ave I was astounded by it too. I had the same viewpoint about it that you started at the start of the video but now I wanna be just like him.
This is the superman we need more of, especially in this day and age where people have seemingly lost hope. kindness, and empathy in these extremely turbulent times. It's an absolute shame how they've been treating superman comics in recent years and they could have fixed this through Jon but they didn't. I just hope more stories, more characters end up being inspired by THIS superman and not the dark and gritty superman that's been shoved down our throats for the last 10 years.
This is something that Zack Snyder and all of his dumb fanboys will never understand about Superman. To me he's always a kind, loving and caring superheroes of all time. He's the embodiment of hope, while Zack tarnished that by making into this edgy and lonesome character. He's not a God that Zack thinks he supposed to be, but a man who uses his gifts to help the people around him. Hearing him saying "I Love You" to Earth. Really shows what he's supposed to be.
Not a fan of the Snyder-verse Superman. But what you showed here is the Superman of my childhood just being good because it's the right thing to do. Choked me up as well. Thank you.
this was all i needed. This is what i want from the new superman movie and if the movie is even half as good as the story of this video. then we've won. we've actually won.
I mean I agree that this look is cool too, but I dunno man, comics have always been about showing different versions of characters. Snyder had his vision and I thank him for exploring it. I am super excited to see this other perspective on screen, but i dont think the analysis should always about "this other bad, this one good". But good vid man, might take a look at the comic if I have the opportunity

Powers or not, He’s just a guy trying to do the right thing
It's the most heroic deed anyone could do. And that's what makes him Super.
It’s even better when you realise the comic is dedicated to the writers dad
I dont gey emotional often, but that image. Superman, no, Clark Kent looking at the Earth and saying "I love you" legit brings tears to my eyes.
Ive been through bad BAD periods of depression and one of the things thats helped me is looking into Superman and what makes him so Super.
He is an embodiment of hope, kindness, and the good of humanity.
Superman isn't a god.
Superman isn't an alien.
Superman is a man who does what he can to make the world a better place. He's who we should all strive to be.
He may not be a biological human, but inside, he's just as human as the rest of us.
That "youre special" from pa kent made me cry smuch, not just because of the raw love showed but because it reminds me so much of my loving dad who passed away 2022, that love and care is something i still miss to this day, wonderful video truly
Rip dad, you were always my superman
rest in peace
The beauty of these short stories is that they remind us that true strength comes from empathy, humanity, and love. When I read Super-Sons, it made me so happy to see how lovely and polite Jon was. Superman, Clark, is an awesome superhero and will always be because of his golden heart.
It always warms my heart to see people reject Synder’s garbage version of this beautiful character!🥹
That's why his character is timeless and one we should all try to emulate.
beautifully said
"Climate change"
I know, right? Those alarmists have been 'sounding the alarm' since before my dad was in diapers, and he was born in 1960.
he has unironically become my role model i say this as a 30 year old man
I love the bit in which Clark Kent verbally disarms the robber. More specifically, the cashier telling him even though he isn't Superman, he'll always be her Superman. It made me laugh and well up at the same time.
This is the only man to make batman happy
U know why batman gets along with superman the best ?
Daniel Warren Johson deserved an Eisner that year for that story, hands down the best depiction of Supes I have seen since All Star Superman. Great vid, thanks for sharing!
I read that comic he called the magnum opus. man it made me tear up. Pa Kent filled his childhood with so much love that Superman has enough to share it with the entire world that when he looks at the world, and he says he loves it and he is proud of it. If that isnt superman, i dont know what is.
A tear came down my eye when I first read this comic. It is such a simple and beautiful read that shows who Superman really is and what he represents
That’s what makes Superman one of the greatest fictional heroes of all time
This Superman, is hope. An alien who truly is the peak of humanity's potential.
I’m supposed to getting ready for work & here I am crying because of a good man that sees the best of us
You've sold me on it. I'm putting the conic on my wishlist
The best Superman stories are not the ones where he beats someone into submission. The best are when Clark's empathy and heart are on full display!
I’m very sick and in pain right now, and this made me cry.
Honestly, I’ve been going through a lot. But this video has kept me going. The way you talk about hope, give me hope. I can’t thank you enough for making this video!
thank you. im glad this video has been able to keep you going bro. stay safe out here man
That is a beautiful story indeed.
Buddy thats well friggen said, i think the exact same
you can love something and still completely brick an attempt at it
The beauty in this video is that it’s about Superman but in actuality it’s a lovely view into the heart of a beautiful person(You)
I appreciate that so much man, thank you
Daniel warren johnson gives a lot of heart to his stories. This man had me tear up reading transformers.
Facts, I feel like he took a lot of his experience from this comic and placed into into his rendition of Optimus prime, ESPECIALLY at the deer scene, god those panels make tear up every time.
Superman reminds me of gurren Lagan’s motif of “if you can’t believe in yourself, believe in me, cause I believe in YOU”
I've never had a comic affect me as much as that chapter did.
They offer a huge variety of digital comics for every genre, and lifetime updates too!😍
I’m glad you were able to break through the cynicism surrounding Superman and see him for what he truly is. That’s a hard thing for many to do.
Man, Superman is the best.
THANK YOU!!!
So many problems with Snyder’s MOS.
The neck snap, Jonathan saying “maybe”, Clark trashing that bully’s truck, etc.
I just got a bad feeling this new film coming out next year is gonna be total garbage.
I used to think superman was boring and uninteresting but then randomly I got into the character and if you look deep in it he’s really interesting
Thank you man, i'll always forever keep the spirit of superman alive. He's inspired me since I was a child and even now continues to do so.
Yes I guarantee you’ll love it, and yeah I heard about that. I love Gunn as a filmmaker so I’m really excited for Gunns take
The best video about Superman I've ever seen, because you truly understand the character and explain it so beautifully. Thank you, and long live the man of tomorrow!
thank you so much
Hey man, lotta folks talking up Supes in these comments.
@@tylerduggan7776 I appreciate that so much man, thank you.
One of the best videos about Superman I have ever seen.
@@professorlogos5459 thanks man
I know this video is from nine months ago, but I'm glad we're getting a resurgence in appreciation for the _real_ Superman
I hope more people remembered that Superman is Superman not because of his godly powers, but because he is a humble and kind man. And he makes you want to do and be better through the little things that matter, just like he does.
Great video. Similar vibe to Superman: For All Seasons. Another great introspection into the character.
thank you
@@AwdaFilms You're welcome. Keep up the good work (Y)
I am hopeful that Superman Legacy will show us why Superman is the symbol of hope and James Gunn seems to understand Superman's role as a whole in the whole DCU.
same, I fully trust gunn... what he did with the guardians films was utter perfection. I am confident he can do superman justice
On that 90s Superman show Lois And Clark, he once said to Lois, who I think just found out Clark was Superman, that "Clark Kent is who I am, Superman is what I can do."
Zack Snyder ruined how we all viewed Superman those who actually know about Superman know that he is the greatest superhero ever not because of his powers but because of his heart he's the most pure of heart superhero he's such a kind and caring guy Superman's greatest power isn't the ability to fly or see through walls it's his kindness Superman can save the day without even using his powers just by listening and caring enough to give someone a little light when they need it the most I wish the movies understood that
Literally, a scene where Superman has a talk with someone, comforts someone etc… would be so beautiful and wholesome. We need a Superman with heart.
I could have saved the world!”
Superman “You’re a billionaire. If you cared, you could have saved it a long time ago.”
I’m glad the people have been finally understanding what makes Superman great.
Brother you nailed it. No one gets Supes anymore. This is exactly it. I teared up at the vid bro you did such a good job
thank you ❤️
"Dedicated to Stephen Johnson, I love you dad." 🥲
Beautiful video man. I for the longest time saw Superman as someone who was great but not as deep as characters like Batman or Spider-Man. Now I know that not only is he a very deep character. But probably one of the most important for all of us to recognize in our lifetime.
I'm so glad to see so much love for DWJ's Supes story. I cried the first time I read it and I cried again watching this video.
I hope this gets more recognition. An incredible peice that reminds us all of what we truely admire...and would rather be. Loved, and Loving. Keep up the good work!
And that's why superman is the greatest superhero of all time
It hurts to see Superman be the poster boy for the "absolute power corrupts absolutely" trope that every writer in the world wants to use him for
I teared up listening to your video and watching the panels. It’s just so beautiful and touching ❤️❤️
I really appreciate you thank you
This is the best video essay on Superman I've seen. You get it, kid.
thank you so much man, I appreciate you
You pointed to the three scenes I had the most problems with, and I glad to not be only one left to see and believe this. Thank you.
I genuinely got close to tearing up on that last one. We need more of this super man.
Great comic book. Encapsulates what makes Superman special amongst all other heroes and superheroes. His heart.
God i cried reading this, it's just so inspiring, we should all strive to be like that
“You don’t have to be Superman, you just have to be someone Superman would be proud of.”
i come back once awhile to remind myself what kind of man i want to be not for myself but for the people I love
I am Superman-Fan since over 40 years! I love him like a brother!❤
I saw the same panel yesterday in a Starman-Superman edit Ave I was astounded by it too. I had the same viewpoint about it that you started at the start of the video but now I wanna be just like him.
Dude, same here. Just now i truly understand how actually good his character is. That edit really opened my eyes for me, and maybe more.
Me personality "Up In The Sky" was my fist real superman story
Mostly bc i grew up with the tv shows and animated movies type (still peak)
It's always the channels with less than 1k subs that make the most beautiful videos.
Dude! You're so underrated! You just earned a sub.
thank you
@@AwdaFilms You're welcome
Thank you.
When the Superman trailer eventually drops, Starman has to be the song they use. It would be so perfect.
One of the best YT vids around about Supe. You nailed it! Congrats!
I fuckin cried most beautiful comic 😌
this was all i needed. This is what i want from the new superman movie and if the movie is even half as good as the story of this video. then we've won. we've actually won.
I liked it in the past when he could fly in outer space without a protective suit or oxygen mask. In so many ways, they have weakened him too much.
Superman is like "It's not about the powers, but rather what you do with them"
I mean I agree that this look is cool too, but I dunno man, comics have always been about showing different versions of characters. Snyder had his vision and I thank him for exploring it. I am super excited to see this other perspective on screen, but i dont think the analysis should always about "this other bad, this one good". But good vid man, might take a look at the comic if I have the opportunity
