The Collectors boosters took away from the rarity and how special they are, but still, THE ART, that’s still amazing to me. We complained the art looked bland and kinda digital renderer, but those showcases are bold on a new direction. I like it a lot, just wish it was truly something rare and special

I personally dislike the idea that Godzilla is now a permanent part of mtg as well, a game that once had at least some semblance of atmosphere or immersion. I could at least suspend my disbelief and feel like I was involved in a cool fantasy world or universe. Now it just feels like a game to be a game to me, which is pretty disappointing. If I want that there's countless other card games made specifically as card games/dueling games within their own universe.

Zendikar and Innistrad heavily influenced by the Lovecraftian mythos? Amonkhet and Theros? I, for one, love the Godzilla cards--and, by the way, they're special edition cards for people like me--collectors who like to mix things up from time to time.

So if they don't do that (or there is just so much special it doesn't feel special anymore) in my eyes they fail to achieve what's basically their sole purpose of existence.

I know this is unrelated but I went to my Walmart and just figured I pick up a collector pack and I pulled and otrimi, foil rielle, borderless winota, foil king Caesar (mythic), and a showcase vadrok! 5 mythics! If there is any typos I was just lazy and didn’t want to fight autocorrect.
I opened a regular box got a winota, general kudro,all the triomes one of which was a full art savria, a lukka, lurrus,nethroi in both regular and comic art,the ozlith, full comic art foil gemrazer, foil artisan and a godzilla foil mothra.
I love watching these videos they teach me about how crazy collectors boxes are and the reactions make watching fun. As I watch I realize that not many people who are "your average, no extra money MTG player will ever get their hands on these collector boxes". I am glad I choose to stay away from collector boxes ( getting foils and full arts from booster boxes and packs is much greater an accomplishment than having them guaranteed in a bling box).
One thing that confuses me in this set, is that they both printed comic book versions and moviemonster versions in the same go. Def getting harder to tell what cardboard is getting slammed into the board. Btw nice playmats lately Rudy
For everyone getting Fallen Empires vibes with all the alternate artwork going on... yeah, I feel you. The thing about Magic is you've got to be in it for the long-term. Wizards goes through phases as they constantly experiment and try to make sets which appeal to different segments of the fandom. This set is clearly geared toward the ultra Timmy's of the world. Don't worry. Over time, the pendulum will swing back your way if this isn't what you're into. This constant experimentation and gathering feedback from the players is what has made Magic the greatest game of all time, and it will continue to be the best.
If these boxes were for a Godzilla card game they'd be great. Too bad they are for Magic. Clearly wizards is just trying to milk its "whales" of every dollar they can until collectors boxes crash and burn, then they'll cancel them, and move on to the next brand new bling box until that fails, and they'll probably continue that process. It's fine if you like this kind of stuff, even if it's not at all for me, just be wary. I wouldn't trust wizards to keep your interests in mind unless you have bottomless pockets.

This is sad. The uniqueness of the artwork, of magic cards is what first drew me to the game. Lately even the artwork has become "generic", for a lack of better word. This "alt" artwork bull is just another money grab especially since they will still be fairly common, if they are still printing the cards like they are money. These cards are so cool. No way I can afford to buy boxes but I’ll certainly be buying singles for the ones I want and can afford. The art is just incredible, all of the artists on this set really outdid themselves. Also, I think triomes are still a good long-term spec even though they seem relatively common. They’ll be going into so many commander decks, practically any 3+color deck in those colors will run them. Only in Competitive Edh will they maybe not be played. Possibly a modern, legacy, & pioneer staple in decks running a lot of colors too. Once the supply of these boxes dries up in a few years, these will skyrocket as people looking to build new decks will by them up
You can get up to 6 mythics per pack (commander, regular, foil, regular comic art, Godzilla, foil comic art). Any set where you can get up to 6 mythics per PACK will hold extreme value not to mention the rares and foil rares that are up to ridiculous numbers.
I like the alternate arts on the new tri lands because they make fetching and searching through a 99 card deck so much easier. I can't say I'm a fan of most of the creatures though.
I actually really like the art of the showcase cards, as someone that enjoys the game. The style reminds me of old magic art in way, it’s bold and causes disconfort or curiosity on some people. It’s an intriging style that truly pops. The Theros Beyond Desth showcase style was a miss, but Eldraine’s and Ikoria’s are spot on.
Imagine being a counterfeiter and trying to figure out how to replicate any card of value out of this set hahaha. The colors, the foils, the style. The insane beauty may not feel as special when almost every card is a work of art, but it definitely deters faking with all of the baked in security features
