- Painting 10 Veil Touched miniatures from Ravaged Star as a crew for Stargrave. Going for a Dune vs. The Grim Dark inspired colour scheme and aiming for efficiency. These 10 fierce looking cultists folk where painted in about 8 hours. Thanks to Dave from @MWGminiatures for beaming over these lovely miniatures and for supporting creators like myself.

Love your style of videos. it can be a little hard these days to find someone just painting some miniatures and having a blast. There's nothing wrong with tutorials and hobby talks, but there's something very personal about the way you let us glance into your hobby.
Thank you Raphael. I do try to just portray my hobby.. that is what I wish to do at least. I'm glad to hear you enjoy my attempts.
I agree, I think it has more to do with ourselves maturing in the hobby, than the content generally available changing though. I watched one of his videos months ago and thought his style and content wasn't for me. I revisited today and I am so glad that I did. Instant sub and binge watch basically.
I totally agree. The “usual” painting tutorials are fun and informative, but ultimately this is a hobby we share with a community and talking about it in itself and sharing our experiences is part of the fun =D
I think this is my favorite aesthetic you have achieved so far. Subtle but still pops.
Great to hear Will, thank you.
I like to keep my life simple. I see a 52 miniatures video and I click it. Day is automatically amassing.
Great simplicity in my book :)
I say this on so many of your videos, but your production quality is far beyond any other wargaming channel on UA-cam.
Thank you as always MMC!
I love how your "quick and dirty" paint jobs are still far better than my attempts at painting.
Thanks James!
Infuriating innit'? I saw the thumbnail and thought "TF is this just tabletop standard?! I'd consider these show pieces xD"
@@localshaman Thanks R!
OK, so now I'm at the stage, where I save your videos for the moment, that I'll be relaxed, and in the mood to enjoy it the most. Thanks.
Lovely, thank you!
Your four hours worth of work looks like my ten! XD
I appreciate the compliment L :)
"A year later it was saturday" That's a long week!
There was a lot of Mondays...
Wow, the oil wash took your squad to another level. Can’t wait to watch this episode on the big flat screen. And of course I loved the non painting gems both visual and verbal: hologram, glowing eyes, pulsating light saber and “corrosion explosion”. I think it may be time to publish a 52 miniatures dictionary. 😉👍
Corrosion explosion is a very handy word when talking rust. How much rust? - Corrosion Explosion. Thanks Mark! I did kind of work towards the oil paints here. Purposely leaving things out that I hoped the oil paints would fill. I'm glad it worked out.
Now I gotta go and watch the movies again. Back in a few hours.
Grateful for the high production of this video
The minis look fantastic. I'll have to check out those miniatures. Can't pass up some crazy space cultists.
Please to T! Thanks.
You brought back Leia and with her so many memories squeezed in two seconds. That was touching in an unforeseen way.
And I really appreciate your videos. Thanks, mate.
I appreciate it Clint, thank you
Thank you for this! The veil touched looks great.
My pleasure James 👍
Gosh darn, your videos are just so informative AND so calming. I swear I could watch and listen to you painting a phone book.
Thank you Seun!
In the intro you mentioned (I think you mention this in a few videos) procrastination due to setting unrealistic goals or overthinking the task at hand. I am all too familiar with this struggle. 🙂 It's always encouraging to see someone else working through their self-sabotaging assessments.
I think we all do this, it’s just not on UA-cam very often :)
Thanks for a great little video wonderful to see you got to play. The miniature look awesome and your video production where a lot of fun
Thank you L 👍
"This thing is too big a thing." So true. I too suffer from "too big a thing" paralysis.
I think it’s kind of common. Big ideas are great, but sometimes we need smaller ideas too
Love the way you lead us through your video, it’s always purposeful, informational, entertaining and very friendly to the ears. I think the oils paints really add threat level of depth to your minis, it brings out the subtle shades and highlights that straight drybrushing can never really achieve by itself. I have some oils in the garage that I hardly use…..after seeing these videos I think it’s time to finally join the dark side, sniff the thinner and start with oils. Thank you…..my master.
Thank you Andy, and I wish you the best of luck with the oils!
Something tells me you'd make a great Mentat, Mr. 52. 😊
Hah! As long as I don't have to do maths...
wonderful video. Has a zen vibe to it. Watching you do your magic while narrating it all took me back to a place I never knew I missed. Love what you did with the editing at the begining but also that last shot with a desert background was just magnificent. Amazing armosphere and mood. You truly have become my favourite youtube channel, and each new video is a real treat. Great job Alex!
Thank you D, and you have been watching quite a few of my videos for quite a while. I'm glad to hear you keep enjoying the narrative and not the opposite :)
@@52Miniatures Indeed I have. And it's all because of your style. Funny thing is that it's not even the painting itself, which, let me just say, is spectacular, very distinct, very YOU, but it's mostly the stories you tell, how you tell them and the whole presentation of everything. The subtle humour, and all the snippets of wisdom sprinkled all over make it that every time you post something new I know I'm not going to be disappointed. No pressure though ;)
@@acidcoen Ha ha! And here's me thinking of trying to make a few simpler vidoes 😂
@@52Miniatures Simple is great! You know, it's fun to see little holo tricks and a bit of teleportation but what really got me was your narration and that final shot of your finished minis. Seriously, I literaly can't get over it :) So much so that I've started looking around for a desert background just to recreate that feel somehow!
Yeess! Another color style video 😊
Love it!
Yay! Thank you!
Watching your videos is always a real pleasure, love everything about them. Your crew looks awesome too!
Thank you very much!
Very clean, enjoying hearing a lot people's methods for getting over the hump, and procastination killers
Seems too many end up with more models than they know what to do with, then the longer they sit gathering dust, the more people don't want to paint them
I also, all of a sudden got a real urge to paint the other miniature. Strange :) Inspiration is a fickle.
Wonderful looking minis !! As usual, great video, beautiful paint jobs - thanks.
Thanks Nivek!
You got some incredible results in such a short time period. I really love how vibrant these are but still look perfectly in place for the setting.
Thank you Bill!
Always good to remember that we can get great results with not that much time spend. Also somewhat partial to the sandy paint scheme's, especially when they are combined with blue/turquoise.
It's a fun challenge for me, as I am very comfortable with taking a lot of time on the one miniature. And yes.. pale sand, stained white. What can go wrong?
Fantastic weekend start with a cup of coffee and an minitures painting adventure from 52 Minitures. Love the colors from the new crew.Whish them a lot of loot.
Thanks Dan! I’m glad to hear it.
yes, yes yes. After many years i started collecting T'au but i want to do them as best as i can with custom bases with details etc. Thats why i didnt even open any of the boxes i got...
Yeah, it’s a thing. Hopefully you’ll get there one day :)
Cool channel thanks Dave MWG for showing me this
I’m glad he did! Thanks K!
They look really good
Thank you Hannes
What a great paint job! Using the zenithal prime to also do some color work is such a cool time-saver.
Definitely! Also, turns out great visually. Trying to paint gradients like that with a brush would be a lot of qualified work.
Great video, great miniatures and nice to listen too no hype which is great
I get hyped about things like marriage, childbirth, friends birthdays, my sons pranks... hyping every other week about a specific paint seems maybe a bit over the top.
Your general attitude to the hobby motivates me to keep experimenting and just doing "stuff". Keep up the great work. You're onto something good.
Thanks a lot B!
I paused the picture of the whole squad at the end and tried to figure out what I like so much about it. It was something familiar but something I knew from a different context. And then it clicked. It’s the Orange & Teal look. Your work is so inspiring!! Thanks mate.
Yeah, what little colour there is… does match up. Also two great colours of weathering and oxidation. Rust and verdigris :)
Mind blowing watch. Big thumbs up 👍
Thanks T!
That's a beautifully deep paint job on the minis; and another relaxing and entertaining video.
Thank you Euan! As always. I've now burned myself on a lightsaber.
Another excellent video. Those Veil Touched miniatures are going to play havoc with my credit card, although I've convinced myself that they are an early Birthday 🎁 😆
My son apparently has several birthdays every year. Maybe you can do the same?
Another great video. Artful videos showing artful painting.
Thank you as always TFTF
I love your style of videos mate. Congratulations on another great production!
Glad you enjoy it!
That intro was dope, kudos to Dave for those minis very nice.. thanks for the video Alex!
Absolutely awesome artwork "Dune"*! 👏
Thank you very much!
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
Loving your journey
Awesome paintjob. Really interesting to see how great speedpainted miniatures can look and how many depth and detail you added after the contrast paints with further steps!
Don't tell Scott and Jon but yours is my favorite miniatures channel.
Hah! Thanks Chris :)
Holy crap! That was an amazing result! Well done Alex! 👍
Thanks Leif!
These. Are. Awesome!
Lovely vid, as always.
Thanks Eelco!
My biggest problem is that I replace the 'bigger thing' with an even 'BIGGER THING', now at the stage where in trying to paint a 1.2m long 3d Printed Battlestar Galactica.... Your videos have reminded me of how fun it is to paint individual Mini's and break the regimental mindset. Thank you.
Great to hear, thank you S41.
Amazing paint job on these and the Veil Touched do look awesome! Now to try and find some space to sneak some extra minis past my warden...
Distract the warden with candy?
Awesome stuff. Something like this is my preferred method of painting, highly efficient way to get the most out of paint schemes and with time saved allows for extra focus on special features or gaming.
Great, thanks Dan.
I habe been pondering over the style I want my genestealer cult to have. The dune inspired scheme might be a good bet. Gives a lot of possibilities for cool kitbashes, an easy scheme for masses and also I just love dune since my childhood and last years movie was just a blast. Thanks for connecting the dots for me.
Sounds like a cool idea! Definitely worth a few test minis :)
I really can't wait to get my hands on the ones I backed, they are truly amazing minis. Didn't think a dune inspired scheme didn't come to mind but I have to say it works really well Alex. Awsome job as always! ^^
Thanks Aleria! I hope you like them when they arrive :)
Super sexy! Great choice with color scheme. And the bases are sweeeet!
Damn those models are awesome.
The minis must flow.
While the bleached look of the dune setting definitely involves uv light, you know, bleaching colours, I think it also comes from the moment-to-moment experience of the glaring sun blowing out our vision(and over exposing film). Something else glare does is make us squint, reducing subtleties and increasing contrast: i wonder if hardening out the gradients and darkening+merging shadowed areas would add to the look?
CAT!
CAT! big cat... That would be the next big thing. Space cats on desert planet with blue eyes.
@@52Miniatures I'll hold you to that ! 😂
I find that every video you produce has different way of inspiring me to progress in the hobby. The production, the writing, and, of course, the painting, all wonderful. I’ve also found myself stalled having not played a game of Stargrave yet for very similar reasons as your own. Interestingly, when I saw these minis my mind went to Stargrave as well! I have a plan for them. Thanks and Cheers!
Thank you for letting me know Samuel. I hope you get to have a game of Stargrave one day.
OH I love the little preview of these minatures. Looking forward to getting them in the mail.
I hope you enjoy them M!
I love every video. Something about your mindset and voiceover is just what I'm looking for. And the camera work is great as always.
Awesome, thank you!
Wow! These look great!
Glad you like them!
beautiful
Thank you Mr... I mean Monsieur
Just amazing work as always 👍
Thank you so much 😀
An amazing video as always!
Thanks Dan
Sick.
Those are some cool minis and great paint job on them.
Thank you Matt, as always.
A wonderful Video. I really appreciate your way of telling a nice story with every single video. Always makes my day. Please keep it on.
Thank you Tobias, my pleasure.
some of the coolest paint jobs I've ever seen, great colours
Wow, thanks T!
Wicked!
Alex, you need an Ornithopter for the crew, one with removable stowage and seats in case of worm sign.
With every video you pull me closer to Oil paints...
With every video I get closer to an "oil paint video"
I love desert style raiders. Tallarn, Ash Wasters, Dune Tribes, Tuskan Raiders, etc. 😙🤌 Quality
these look amazing m8, absolutely love them
Thanks N!
Always good and informative mate. Cheers. Enjoy your vids and work :)
Thanks 👍
Very good. 🙂
Another great video! I look forward to everyone of your uploads and make sure I have the time to sit down and watch all the amazing visuals and storytelling instead of just having it on in the background. Very Inspiring to my hobby.
Great to hear B, thank you.
Another great video, really enjoyed it.
Thanks B, great to hear.
Love that you used oil paints! I think it really helped give your final product a really nice feel. Not sure why people are afraid of them but people act like I am using forbidden wizardry when I break them out :)
Aye. It's like the alchemists shop as soon as the white spirit turns up. I hope it will slowly change :) I mean.. I painted only with enamels as a kid and there is not much difference regarding solvents and that..
Golden's zinc white liquid acrylic is slightly transparent, not too chaulky and relatively inexpensive.
Thanks for the tip!
glad the stargrave ship finally got a crew :)
Yeah!
Damn, those look soooooo good.
Great to hear J, thank you.
Great video, as usual.
I must admit, I got a little wait what, is that Karl, and then you said his name, I used to work with him!
Hah! Small world :) Thanks Ironspeed.
OH! Well hello cultists for my new Red Corsairs army !
Hello!
Judge Dredd Mega Collection volumes; hope the Thrill Power sees you through future projects as well as this one. Excellent work.
Yeah! :) thanks F!
Beautiful miniatures. Wonderful video. Amazing thoughts and introspection. You're a Master.
Thank you kindly!
I had to watch this two times 👍🏻👍🏻 amazing job and very good video😊 beautiful color scheme, keep going✌🏻
Thank you so much 😀
These models came out excellent! Thanks for the great content as always
Thanks R!
Oh yeh…..counting your minis during the whole process is sound advice, the times I had one escape the table only to be found during the end of a batch was getting a bit of a habit. Counting the quantity is now an essential step of the process for me. 😅
one of my favourite channels, love your video style, thoughts and painting.
When I saw that black one.. staring back at me with a mocking grin... Counting is now essential :) Thanks Simon
A little too colourful in some areas for me. At least if we're going by what I imagine Fremen would wear before the Jihad.
I'm definitely gonna steal the robes recipe and a few extra bits.
I'm glad you upload at the pace that you do. As others have said, it's awesome to just have a hobby painter enjoy the hobby without the video being a full 3 hour tutorial or a 15 minute tutorial for specific techniques and stuff.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy and need them, but there's something special about your videos.
Just a calm monologue with yourself for your viewers. I love it. Please continue to share your thoughts and work with us.
I appreciate it CPN, I do wish for a way to on occasion do simpler content. To be able to share just “painting a miniature”, but I haven’t fully worked it out yet.
I’ve switched to oil paints almost exclusively. I still have a decent sized collection of acrylics, but I’m finding that my blending is far superior with oils. It’s a different way of doing things, but I like it.
I'm slowly working my way there :) Thanks Jon
Great paintjob, great video! I simply enjoy your nice composed content.
Thank you very much!
As always the video quality is brutal, Congratulations. And by the way the minis are also very good :)
Thank you very much!
Beautiful painted.
Thank you S!
great look minis, plus love the style you did them.
Glad you like them!
Beautiful painting! Well done.
Thank you very much!
dat intro
I don't see why there is not an Oscar being sent over this minute?
Så imponerande resultat! Jag gillar verkligen ditt sätt att använda färger, lite mer diskreta färger vilket tilltalar mig. Dessutom är dina videos speciella och du verkar vara en underbar person. Tack!
Tack Tobbe!
awesome!

Disclaimer that you don't find out about shipping till the end and is nearly $20 per item ordered.
@@skimnsurf72 Mimimi shipping.
We are just used to free shipping because big online shops can effort to subsidize shipping. Sending one small box of Intercessors from Germany back to the UK costs around 20€. So its no surprise that shipping costs a little bit higher than that.
@@cyberware5323
Sorry, you can go to a multitude of some LGS websites and get shipping at the fraction of this cost or even for free.
International shipping within the EU isn't a good standard for comparison, especially for US/Canada customers (MWG being Canadian).
$40 for shipping two boxes of plastic minatures from a business is steep and deserving of a disclaimer. Can't spin that.
😍😍😍😍😍😍 that is all
works for me :)
