Great Video! If you are in the UK I would recommend Sabre Plastics Tooling for injection mould tools. Great team with quick lead-times and competitive prices.
very detailed explanation. as a professional plastic injection mold and die casting tool manufacturer in China, this is very small and simple tools example we made much more bigger and much more complex tools. anyway this is awesome.
The outside surface of the part does not seem to be angled. How do you ensure that the part is not stuck to the mold on injector/hopper side? I am not doubting that this will work in real life, but I don't know why it works without an angled surface in this case...
Sometimes it actually does, it depends on the viscosity of the mixure, if it is very oil heavy then its likely to spill a bit. But its not too bad, you just do one shot with 95% percent amount and the next one will be fine.
I worked in injection molding in the seventies and eighties. A lot more automation now, a lot more rules, both safety and sexual harassment on the job. I was involved in some pretty wild stuff on the graveyard shift.
The “non-return valve” has indentations or better known as flutes that the plastic squeezes through as the screw is turning. It is then pushed forward by the screw like a syringe to the mold and cooled.
1:14 You didnt show how the molted plastic can even get past the head on the auger. You show the plastic having the magical properties of moving through solid objects
I'm sure the head has ports through it and the ports are probably one-way type check valves. Or maybe the head itself is a spring-loaded one-way valve. This coming from a hydraulic engineer.
Well noticed. The injection screw in this configuration does not allows the material to flow, it has to move back to allow the material to flow through the selling ring.
Hot runner molds do not have any left over burnt plastic or runner system. Non hot runner systems don't have any burnt plastic either, just a runner system that has to probably be sent to regrind.
It is purged out (heated/cleaning out) Left to cool before the puddle is removed into a proper receptive area (trash bin) in which the hopper is cleared of the colored material pellets and prepared for the next job....this is usually done by the floor/shift technicians, not an operator.
tqvm, but I think the screw should be in a full forward position initially, and pushed backwards whilst building the shot by the dragged material during plasticating.
i don't understand where the air present in the mold before injections goes when the melted plastic fills it, i would love to know more about that. (if it works thanks to some microns sized vents does it shows on the final produsct and how are those metal molds made ?)
@@knoqx79 yes. Once the mold is under tonnage, also depending on the type of vent, there should be no flash or shorts by the vent. Just a parting line. We have metal tool shops at each plant that have cnc and edm equipment that design and create molds.
@@MmmChipotle thank you for your answers, what is the cost of production of one of those mold for (let's say to cast/mold model kit grids for exemple) could i order one from a 3D file ?
And now all that you need is a German tool maker. The other type of "Press" skips the screw (expensive) and uses a plunger to push the melted plastic into the mold.
Very basic & not a satisfactory mould design as there are no return pins for the ejector plates. You should nor rely on springs except to shake the product off. Return pins (4 off) must touch the cavity plate to reset the ejector pins. in some cases it is necessary to add early return devices so ejector pins do not damage sliders i realise in your example there is not any sliders. MERRILEES MOULD DESIGN.
We “bought” the tool when we made a run of 10k of a 1” x 1” plastic grinding pad to grind up weed. Each unit was .08 and they charged us $4500 for the tool. I want the grinder to be made in the US, how hard is it for them to ship the tool and then find an American manufacturer to use the tool to avoid another big charge.
Usually the feed zone is longer than the transition zone because the screw moves back and you dont want to dose into the transition zone. Good animation anyways.

That's something that's not covered. The screw works just as much with pressure as well as heat. The pressure keeps it liquid at the end. It cools real quickly.
Came for the injection molding, stayed for the dance vibes.
this really made me laugh

Si si ¿donde esta?
Why doesn’t the liquid spill in the dosing process? 1:43
because the Liquid (melted plastic granulate has been injected through a gate point on the mold itself)
Sometimes it actually does, it depends on the viscosity of the mixure, if it is very oil heavy then its likely to spill a bit. But its not too bad, you just do one shot with 95% percent amount and the next one will be fine.

Do you allow me to use this video in an educational manner? I would remove sound and speak to explain this process. It'll be in Dutch.
You can probably use it. In most educational uses, the creator doesn’t even know if you use their video, and almost all UA-cam videos are fair game.
How does the melted product get passed the “non-return valve”, please? Great viddy, thank you for posting!

I always wonder how to clean the injection tube, if it is cold or not in use?
That music though lol
Idk why but the last part is so satisfying!
And at the end the burn of plastic is stored in which tank?

Is it possible to make any mold of any size or you just making the injection with ready molds with fixed sizes ?
They're fixed molds which can be swapped out based on the part being made.
Design & manufacture corresponding molds for different parts, injection molding by using proper size injection machines.

you paid for a metal mold, this machine they likely already had, they can ship you the mold, useless without the machine
