Thank u so much for all the hard work that goes into making these videos. I def think I was Viking & English in past lives cuz I really just can’t get enough of this stuff!!! Thanks again & gods bless every1.
Awesome video! Sweyn's son and father are more well known so I think people don't realize his many accomplishments. Forkbeard was probably as 'great' as his son Canute and deserves recognition because he laid the foundation! He was a warrior-King who had the ability to get things done and was diplomatic when needed like his father Bluetooth. The temporary alliance between Sweden and Jarls of Norway paid off brilliantly as did his gamble to take England by force. It was a shame that he died so early into his reign of England, and also that Vikings:Valhalla portrayed him as being strangled by his grandson Harold Harefoot!
If he would have lived on, who knows what would have happened! How strange fate is!! Yeah his grandson Harefoot would have been an infant or not even born when he died I believe
he is very well known in Denmark he became King of Denmark in 987 and died in 1014 , he is buried in Lund Southern Sweden, it was part of Denmark until about 350 years ago , his name in old Norse was Sveinn , in modern Danish it's Svend and until about 50 years ago it was a very popular name because of Sweyn Forkbeard
Thanks for the video mate it was as enjoyable as i thought it would be Honestly Sweyn forkbeard deserves more recognition then he is given,he was the only viking who dared challenged the power of the holy roman emperor and the first dannish/norwegian king to standardise the minting of coins aswell
Love the videos mate, good to see an English boy like me making amazing vids on things they’re passionate about and getting good recognition for it! Hope to do the same, big you up
You're voice with the music is a magical combination not to mention the information you present is alright too just kidding on the part all parts are equally great. Appreciate all the hard work you do to not only give us historically accurate videos but make the information easy to digest. it's really refreshing with all this AI stuff going around 👍👍👍
He wanted power!! And the Christian world was becoming so powerful and rich Canute needed a part of that to maintain his empire, trade with the rest of Europe etc, the pope wouldn’t have trusted a pagan to rule 3 nations! It was a transformative era where the old gods were fading!
This was fantastic, but did you say "unbrindled savagery" at 47:15? Is that some Britannic term, or did you mean "unbridled"? Sorry to be Oberfuerher Grammarstein, but it just hit me funny... I had to look up "unbrindled" to be certain I wasn't lacking in my vocabulary. Cheers though for an awesome documentary on this last king devout to Odin and the Aesir gods, even though it appears he was a bit of a bloodthirsty jerk with daddy issues.
I may have mis pronounced it! Good spot! Thank you so much! I hope you enjoyed the video! Yes he definitely listened deeply on the tales of his ancestors! Had to be a bloodthirsty warmonger to become the king of Norway! Take the kingdom of Denmark from his father! And take England!
@@historyprofiles Oh, yeah! The video was absolutely killer! I suppose you are right, too.. You'd have to be a savage to accomplish what he had in his life. Truly a mighty Norsk Viking usurper. Hail!
King Svend Otto Haraldsen was babtised and a christian. The name Otto was given to please the german emperor Otto 2. a christian emperor. Svend fired the german bishops in Denmark and got some new bishops from England. Thats why he got a reputation for being pagan. His father Harald Blåtand was not the first christian king of Denmark, that was king Harald Klak.
well there have been found a Rune stone in Scandinavia from the Viking age where it says about a person "he was a great Viking"a lot of people like you have read or heard somewhere that in the Icelandic Sagas it say "going Viking" but that is only 1 in many ways the term was used in the Sagas Vikingr/Vikingar (plural) have been used about people although we don't believe they in general called themselves such, there are also a Rune stone where the text is locals complaining about Vikings from another Scandinavian country, I don't know why you use terms as "we" as you aren't a Viking and I'm pretty convinced you aren't Scandinavian, because in Scandinavia we call all the Scandinavians living during the Viking age "Vikinger" we don't have a term like Old Norse, or actually we have old Nordisk=old Nordic , but we never use it about people only items , also old items that have nothing to do with the Viking age , people who worship the old pagan Gods we call Asatro anyway I don't see it as your business to tell the person making the Video what to call Scandinavians from the Viking age
