  • Episode 31. I am finally able to enjoy some good whisky after a long cold. Gooderham & Worts has been an interesting journey for me. While I did not initially enjoy it, I now find it intriguing and enjoy musing over a dram of it! #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour

    Your experience is exactly what I went through. Initially I didn’t like at all so I left it for several months. Now I love it. It was your review and others that encouraged me to try it again. Thanks!

    I really enjoyed your review on this whisky. I agree it's got a lot going on at once.. As I've worked through my bottle, sometimes it's rough, sometimes it works, I just never quite know what to make of it. The wheat and rye always seem to be battling for attention on my palate. Overall it's been a fun adventure bottle. Cheers!

    newbie here again....bought this and am really enjoying it, the more i get into it...my first Canadian whiskey (also have an unopened 11 souls).....on the nose i go back to being a kid: and smell a bowl of hot porridge with maple syrup and brown sugar on top....even taste some maple syrup or butterscotch with some nice peppery kick...for some reason this reminds me a little bit of nikka from the barrel.

    I just love your reviews. Your palate tends to match with mine, so you’re an excellent tiebreaker when I’m torn on a purchase! I’ve been craving a good Canadian Whiskey this past week. I’m grabbing a bottle of this today! Thanks.

      Glad I can help! This is an older review , but I like the different flavors I can pull from G&W. I hope you enjoy it!

    I think this whisky really varies from batch to batch. Like it has a similar profile from other batches but this current one I’m drinking has so much sweet tea, butterscotch, sweet oak, candied orange peel and tangerine, vanilla and white flowers. It’s really hitti the spot with this bottle and standing head to head with my bottle of Benromach 10 and roe & co Irish whiskey

    You are correct. I had a chance to try an un-chill filtered whisky 17 yrs old scotch at %high ABV and it was A DELICIOUS SWEET HEAVY MOUTH COATING WOW ...WOW. Thank you for your recommendation and opinion. I will keep searching for those un-chilled ones.

    Hey Jon, nice review. You're down to earth and Canadian! Don't change a thing! I've enjoyed Gooderham & Worts, its a solid whisky. I recently noticed there's a G&W Trinity - 3 grain (17 year) here in Manitoba. I look forward to giving that one a try, its a little more expensive at $79.99

    This whisky for me, as well, has taken some time to properly enjoy. I don't know what it is with this one, maybe it is with the wheat whisky, as it's one that I have never had (Not available in my LCBO, to my knowledge). With wheat being thrown in the blend it threw me off a bit. All in all, I can say this is a whisky that I can see myself enjoying ahain

    another great review, thanks Jon. do you drink anything else besides whiskeys, like cognac? on a side note, if a whiskey has no age how long do you let the air in the glass before you drink it?

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  6 років тому

      Andrew Macgibbon not with any knowledge Andrew, and really only if someone pours it for me!

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  6 років тому +1

      Sorry I missed the second part of your comment Andrew. Letting whisky air before drinking is a way of letting some of the compounds that are in solution evaporate into the air just above the glass so we can have a chance to appreciate them. Also, some of the stronger alcohol notes that come up first can dissipate and give you a chance to explore what else is evolving. There is no actual rule of course. The "minute for every year" is really to say, the older something is, the more time it has had to pick up flavours so we need to give it time to release those for us to catch. For a NAS whisky it would likely depend on how complex the mashbill or blend or casking is. The more complicated the more I would give it time. I hope that helps!

    Hello whisky neghbour ,
    Thanks for a good review. I like rich mouth coating wine like Carmenere, brandy (from Spain, more dark fruit and sweet on the taste : Torres 15 Imperial brandy).. , My rirst rye was Alberta Premium (toffy , vanilla, not much bitter which I like,, easy for sipping for the low price even though A. Premium is not a rich complex dram but nice a balanced for $. I prefer enjoying whisky AFTER AIRING OUT for about few weeks after uncorking.
    I am very new to scotch and rye whisky, , I think this Goods & W. would fit my taste buds. How coating is it on the taste, Rich, or rather thin with bitterness. ?. Thanks .

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  5 років тому

      I find this a tricky one to recommend. Many find it alcohol forward and spicy. I don't think it's too bitter, nor is it too thin. However, I would not classify it as overly coating. You might want to keep an eye out for an un-chill filtered whisky. Not universally, but I find many un-filtered expressions have a little more weight to them.

    I agree with you about the $$$ on this as as for being worth or not. $40 - $45 range yes, but not $ 57 at my alberta store. In 50 range, better stick with the Yankee 😎 kick.

      I don't know why this one climbed so high in price. I guess it became popular? Makes me sad as I enjoy it.
