    2:22 *Flow Rate = ~147.4 gal/min*
Uniform flow in a partially filled (more than half) pipe means we’re using the Manning Equation:
    _Flow Rate_ = (1.49/_Roughness Coefficient_ ) * _Cross-Sectional Area of Flow_ * (( _Cross-Sectional Area of Flow_ / _Wetted Perimeter_ )^(2/3)) * _Slope_ ^(1/2)
    Assuming: _Roughness Coefficient_ = 0.022 | _Slope_ = 0.1 ft/ft | Depth of Flow = 13”
    = 19.7 cfs = 147.4 gal/min
Disclaimer: I’m a student not an expert. Don’t take this as 110% accurate.

A question perfectly crafted for UA-cam comment banter. Give partial info... and a bunch of worthless answers you shall receive (no offense Mr. Wranglerstar)!
This is probably the right methodology, but... We need to know the pipe material (looks like CMP, but hard to see) and the slope of the pipe to give you a respectable answer. We'd also need to confirm that the inlet is not submerged, which tells us if we're analyzing pressure flow or free flow.
      Well played good sir.

Cody, you can't figure water flow just by the area of the opening (in effect the number of SQ inches of a 12" opening half way filled) because you have to know the rate of flow. It could be at a standstill (standing water) or the flow could be at several mph. That determines the capacity of water flow.

It's as simple as knowing the ratio of Head Water depth to Diameter. 24" diameter with 12" headwaters depth is about 4 cfs. Some variance will be a result of the inlet geometry being what it is versus a known control.

    • @nigelwylie01

A Terraced House is one unit in a row of houses all built together as one structure. Usually built in many rows, sometimes on hillsides, giving the appearance of a terraced plantation (hence the name) they were originally built to house labourers, but now are quite a common way to build, because they cut down building costs, and therefore housing costs. They mean everyone gets a garden (yard) even if it is little, and often just concrete. They vary a lot. Many were destroyed after the war (slum clearances) and replaced by 1950s & 60s housing estates, some with high-rise accommodation. Many of these have been pulled down already because of terrible design flaws. Many more should be. So on balance, terraced houses are a reasonable way to have a roof over your head. England is one of the most densely populated Western nations, so watching Wranglerstar is quite extraordinary to me. There are properties with land like that in Southern England, but they are mainly castles or stately homes. The sort of place you pay to visit at the weekend! U.K. population Density is 281people per square km (I know, neither UK nor US use Km, but that is the units worldometers website uses). If you take Scotland & Wales out of that statistic, which have huge land areas and very small populations, that figure would rise sharply for England alone.
      US is 36.

@@craigmooring2091 ah, well there is another name for the really fancy ones like some of those you see in the city centres of the UK. I’m imagining the ones you may have seen from your coach window, and if they were more than two stories high, they may have housed several apartments, one on top of another. In London these are called Mansion Houses. They have always been very high-end accommodation. Other areas of the UK have different styles, developed, as they did over hundreds of years. In Scottish cities there are Tennement Blocks. These were originally very lower class accommodation, housing many families per apartment, with no facilities. However today, they are very highly regarded, and sought after. Obviously they now have the full range of services, but because they were so well built, they are now really expensive to buy. Other cities have other names for different styles.
Your tour guide was sadly trying to make a joke at your expense to disguise his ignorance at a rich seam of history.

Bought first Bobcat in 91. Now on the 5th. Started with a 45 hp, then 60 and last 3 have 75 hp. Since I use a backhoe attachment with rear stabilizers, I choose a machine with tires. Always get inset tires so I can fit in tight places. Both have their purpose. I would take a track machine too, but would never do without my tire machine. Air con. not necessary if you take the door off in summer. Plus, can't use the hoe attachment with the door on. Heat is a must! Most, most, most important is a suspension seat if you want to keep your back in good shape. Also wear a back brace if you are doing any travel with bumps. You will feel better at the end of the day. You probably know all of this, but I thought I would add to the conversation.

While looking at a tracked 'skid steer', Be sure to look at the "4-way" bucket. It can be dumped like a conventional bucket, opened and dumped out of the bottom, and the upper part of the bucket can be raised out of the way, to use it similarly as a dozer blade. Superbly versatile and well worth the extra cost ! We, here, would enjoy watching your 'shopping spree'. Thanks Cody!

The flow in a 50% full 24" pipe... as a senior in civil engineering school, this could be calculated if we knew the velocity or pressure at a point. Then it would be a simple Bernoulis equation. The slope also matters in the velocity Estimating some variables, I was getting about 0.74 cubic feet a second. But the variables I used are probably different than the pipe we saw in the video. We can figure the volume of water in the pipe if we knew the length. Say it was 15 foot across the driveway. Which would be 23.562 at 50% capacity. Which is very efficient, because max efficiently is 60% flow of pipe. Any more and the velocity slows down and the laminar flow can become turbulent. The material of the pipe and the age of the pipe has its own friction coefficient to calculate headless and the velocity lost from friction. Plus the time of concentration to that area matters which is a whole new system using Mannings equation. I love water so thanks for letting me geek out. Looks great Cody!

I started in 1993 and if I had to do it all over again the first thing I would do is lay out my house and building. Then I would double the size of the building (you will fill it) and build it first!!! Then buy the biggest high flow tracked enclosed skid steer I could afford. I would also try to find a lightly used backhoe for bigger things and trenching or digging. I think these mini excavators are over priced and overrated for the money. Once everything is done If the hoe is too big you can rent a mini for the occasional tight spot for a few hundred dollars. Now that I think of it you can buy loader attachments for the skid steer. A minimum of an F 350 4x4 dual wheel dump bed truck with the 7.3 GAS engine. Then all the other miscellaneous home owner tools. Before I forget, you want at least a thousand pound lawn roller! You don't think about that one till about 5 years into it and you start thinking is the ground getting bumpy, why is my gut jiggling? or is the ground rutted? It's the ground! Well maybe your gut too. Finally, the biggest ZTR WITH SUSPENSION and a diesel engine that I could afford.

Put the "wheels vs. tracks" debate aside, the Kubota will allow you to open the door when the arms are lifted. This is HUGE! My Bobcat will not allow you to open the door if the arms are lifted. Think about how often you may want to open the door when the arms are lifted....? If I want to lift a log to cut with my chainsaw, I have to drop it to the ground to get out of the Bobcat. What a PITA. Honestly given the weight of the S570 and the damage it does to the lawn, a small tractor might be better, but you already have that. Skids are great but they are just too heavy. Would need to take the velocity of the water flowing in inches per minute then take that number and do the same conversion for cubic inches to gallons. That will give you gallons per minute. But let’s say that water looks to be flowing about 3 ft per second. That’s 2160 inches per minute. 2160x226 is 488160 cubic inches per minute. Converted to gallons per minutes is 2113 gallons/minute

This isn’t considering a full pipe at max flow. This is an estimate of what is flowing out of that pipe in the video.

What’s interesting is that the land was flooded and by the following morning you could drive the pickup a large trailer with tons of soil and you didn’t sink or get bogged down. Couldn’t do that here.

By my estimation the flow should be around 1350 gallons per minute, assuming 24 inch culvert, 50% capacity, 2 feet per second flow rate.

Kubota or Takeuchi are definetely what i would go with. I would also say spend the extra money and just get the larger (95hp) machine. And once you've been in an enclosed cab you'll wonder how anyone can run a skid steer with open cab. If it were mine and I wanted to get the most out of it I'd also delete all the def garbage.

How many gallons a half of a 24" culvert can flow per minute or hour depends on how fast the water is flowing. BUT one linear ft of a half filled 24" culvert equals 5.87 gallons. Now just figure out how many feet per minute or hour it's flowing.

You judged needing to build up the land between the two aspen trees “four inches”. Now that was with a 24” convert flowing about half. So just wondering if the four inch build up was with full water culvert flow or half flow. I couldn’t mathematically tell you what a half full 24” culvert flows, but I would guesstimate some where between 750 to 1000 gallons per minute.

Did some basic(ish) maths, made some simple assumptions like pipe slope (a slight 3 inch drop) & length (homestead driveway width worthy of ~25ft).
worked out to around ~7,500 gallons per minute with a 24inch culvert flowing at 50%.

As for skid steers we had 2 of them at the mill I worked at. There was an old case and a brand new bobcat. The case was a lot smoother and the hydraulics just worked better. If it’s an option hope that’s helps.

If the flow is about average walking speed its close to 0.8 cubic metre p/s
If its fast walking speed its about 1.0 cubic metres a second.
If it's very fast walking speed
    It's about 1.2 m^3/s
