    The reverse engineering software used is clearly Geomagic Design X, so it is misleading to say that DezignWorks or Polyworks were used for the modelling. The mesh is displayed in DesignX's default colors, the rotation center icon is identical to DX, and even the feature names during the LiveTransfer are identical to DX's naming convention. Be honest about the tools used to create this project.

    Using a smaller scanner may have been a better choice. The spacing between the cameras will make it harder to get accurate small convex features (ex: the hollow inside of the grip), and usually they have a hard time with assembling the multiple scans of a small object together.
    I am curious as to how well a 3d scanner made for smaller parts (ex: 3dmakerpro mouse scanner) would do in terms of accuracy and time to finished scan

    • @beyondthebitstream5153
      @beyondthebitstream5153 3 місяці тому +1

      9 tenths in machinist world is 9 ten-thousandths of an inch or .0009" (23 micron in metric world) not 0.9" like the wording would suggest. .0009" is pretty impressive for a scanner like that

      Great question! The accuracy is 0.0009" or 25 microns for the HandySCAN Black+ Elite. Accuracy is the difference between a measured value (from the scan) compared to a known standard such as a NIST-traceable ring gauge or ball bar. Resolution is the distance between data points and has no impact on the accuracy of the scan. I hope that helps answer your question!

    I'm sorry but you really need to fix that weird corner where the grip meets the frame right under the safeties. If you have that area under the safety cut out you need to do the same on the grip. Or not do it on both. Look at Atlas Gunworks as an example.

    Will never underatand why some machinist will just say "tenths" when refering to a number in the ten thousandths point.
    It's like they just assume everyone knows they mean "tenths of a thousandths" but when i hear "5 tenths" my first thought is 0.5, because that's what it is.
    Also makes no sense why anyone would ever say "5 tenths of a thousandths" anyways. You would never refer to 0.5 as "5 tenths of and inch." You would say half an inch, because everyone (should) know you always reduce the fraction lol.

    • @shirothehero0609
      @shirothehero0609 3 місяці тому

      They do absolutely assume that people understand standard industry terminology because they aren't making this for the layman sitting on the couch or someone who has never seen or knows about the machining world. Its meant for people in the machining industry or those who have a strong interest with basic understanding of terms.
      Everything in machining is in terms of thousandths of an inch because one thousandth, or .001" is the most generally used base for tolerance and measurement precision. So "within a thou/.001" or "two thou/.002" is SIGNIFICANTLY easier than saying "its within two hundred thousandths of an inch." like you want it to be. Its fully understood in the entire industry that "a thou" means .001 of an inch and everything from there is in terms of that base thousandth reference point, so tenths, hundreds or thousandths is in terms of one thousandth/.001 of an inch. ie. its much easier and quicker to say "its a tenth off" than say "Its one ten thousandths of an inch off."
      Its unique to machinists and the industry and isn't going to change because you are crying about it not making sense. It's parlance that is specific for an industry and nearly every industry has their own specific terminology and concatenations of longer words, so learn and adapt if you want to understand the world rather than complain about why you don't think it makes any sense, because the second you start trying to machine something, it makes COMPLETE SENSE.
