Great video, just watched, this is 2024 and the video is still very helpful, thank you!!
Great, helpful video! Thank you for taking the time to post this.
Glad it was helpful!
ABN Painting: I think this is awesome of you to post a how to video AND follow it through with answering questions the viewers have! It's all a learning experience for me, as some of the questions I wouldn't even know to ask. Thank you!
Watching this video just got me eager to do my own right now, I hope I can do it as smothly as the video showed.
You can do it.
Thanks. Thought I'd have to remove the door to paint it. Now I see how to do it without removing the whole door!
I work for a known company out here in Phoenix I gotta say u guys do everything how you are supposed to keep up the good and honest work of true painters
Thank u for showing us the products u used this really helped me pick out what I need for my metal door
Good job. I appreciate you telling of the materials and especially that handle attachment..that is going to help me this summer to paint my exterior doors. Thank you!
I was grateful for that now I can save from paying someone to do it
Great detail on instruction! Thanks!

Huge thanks for this video. Followed it to paint my own security door which is exactly like the one in the video too!
Great vdo!!! Thank you so so much! Should have way more likes then what is shown, matter of fact it baffles me how anyone can dislike a vdo like this! Awesome job guys! Keep em coming!!
Thanks for the video--I have 3 of these doors and they're beautiful when they don't have rust or dirt on them.
Very informative video, without watching this video, I never learn about that handle, thnak you.
Nicely done, I can't wait to do this to my screen door.
You can do it!
Excellent Video. Thank you for sharing :)
Thanks a lot for a great video 👍🏽
Thank you for your helpful video.
Good video! Gracias!
What a great video -- thanks!
Thank you so much.
Good vid 👍
Thanks for the video. I just did mine with a electric sprayer. I used Cover Stain and a Urethane Trim Enamel. It looks great but I'm wondering if I should add another coat?
That dude loving those fumes
nice
Thanks for the video! How many hours does this take? And what would you typically charge for the job?
It usually takes about 2-3 hours. We do not bid on doors as a stand-alone project. We only bid on complete re-paints of exteriors. Painting this door was recorded as the last step of painting entire house.
Here in California it’ll be round 200 not much work on these takes longer to prep than to paint
Freddy Meza do you know how to get paint out of the little holes. Previous owners, used brush to paint this door. Thanks for the advice.
Perfect! Thank you! About how long does it take to dry?
I would give at least 48 hours before closing/using the door.
If I have a black door would you recommend painting it the color I want right away or do I have to do something else first?
you can paint the color you want right away.
Excellent video what’s that handle called??
Spray paint nozzle
How much do you charge to paint a door like that?
We only bid on complete re-paints of exteriors. Painting this door was recorded as the last step of painting entire house.
Great video. How many cans of spray paint needed? Four?
4-5 usually enough.
Do I need to pressure wash the metal door before anything?
you can clean it with a wet rag, no pressure washing needed.
Did you do a primer coat? If it is necessary, should I spray the primer or brush paint the primer? I have the same screen door as you havd
we are using oil base paint that adheres to metal very well. no primer is needed.
@@ABNPainting 2:30 you show what looks like primer -we are confused, can you clarify
we primed a few spots that were rusty. if you have rust on your door you should prime it first. if you have no rust no primer is needed.
Thanks for the video, well done. I hesitate to Like the video because it will move your vote count up from 666 🤣
I have some louvered metal closet doors I am going to paint and some of the slats have tiny pin points of rust. Should I sand them and prime them or is the paint sufficient? Thanks .
if you using oil base paint no priming is needed with minor rust. if you using water based paint or a lot of rust you will need oil based primer
@@ABNPainting Thanks for your response and advice. Have a great one.
Great Vid! We have been trying to paint our screen fence. The paint keeps "clogging" the holes. Is it the paint? Or my technique? I am using Krylon paint. Thanks!!
I never used Krylon paint. So can not tell if the issue is the paint or technique. I have been using Rustoleum to paint screen doors for many years and never had this problem. Regarding technique i can give one advice. Don't try to cover all with one coat. Apply thin and multiple coats instead. Give enough time to dry between coats. Hope that helps.
@@ABNPaintinghow many cans did you use for this door? Also, how many coats did you apply? Thank you!
Hi, my front metal door is color black, do I have to use the primer (1st can that you use) or just go with the 4 cans of color black. Thanks in advance
if the door is not rusty, no need for primer.
Do you need to sand off any paint.. If the door has full paint on it
if the paint is in good condition you don't need to sand.
Any chance this exact method could be used on a regular old entry door. If so, what kind of spray paint could possibly be used, for a nice glossy finish.. I cannot afford to hire a spray machine, so if it’s possible to use spray can paint that would be great
This is the link to the paint we usually use for metal doors. It should work well for most other surfaces. If you look somewhere on
the can it will tell you which surfaces it is good for. We have used it on non-metal doors and never had any problems.
I would recommend satin finish for an old door. If it is too glossy will be very hard to hide imperfections. tinyurl.com/y72lt2k6
Thank you sir for your response, I will definitely look into this..
I want to buy a new metal door like the one on video. I would like to paint it blue, it comes in white and black. I should buy the door in white it looks like it has a bit of sheen, shine on it. Do I primer it first?
we don't paint a lot of metal doors, but i think if it is just a little bit of sheen should be ok without primer. without looking at the door can't tell you for sure.
@@ABNPainting Thank you!
Can I use a Rustoleum can of all-in-one paint and primer, or do I need to use a separate can of primer and then a can of paint?
All depends on how much rust you have. if you have a lot of rust primer by itself will always work much better. If a little bit of rust you may not need to prime. Oil base paint should cover minor rust just fine.
How many can of paint did you use? Thanks.
metal door like that usually takes about 6 cans. I usually keep receipt and return unused cans if buy too many.
@@ABNPainting hey dude, you're so helpful. Thanks.
Hello! How much would you charge for a job like that?
We only bid on complete re-paints of exteriors. Painting this door was recorded as the last step of painting entire house.
Is it possible to use brush only not spray painting
i would not recommend brush. with brush you could fill in small holes and it may not look good.
I hired someone to paint my door and now the holes are clogged with paint. Any suggestions on how to clean? Thanks in advance
Sorry Lydia, never had to clean clogged holes in the metal door.
Other than poking each hole with a sharp object, or using paint stripper/remover to remove paint and re-paint again after, can’t think of a solution. May be another viewer will reply to you eventually with better ideas.
You may have to wire brush the screen to clear the holes. This will most likely require another coat of spray pain, only, with the recoat, apply thin coats to the screen material. The hole clogging comes from thoo much paint being applied at one time. Better 2 to 3 thin coats than one thick one, since tninner coats will dry more uniformly as well as reducing any missed spots. Good luck.@@ABNPainting
Did it really take 4 cans of spray paint? This is a project next on my list.
Yes. Depending on color it could take more. I would buy 6 and save the receipt in case you need to return one or two.
@@ABNPainting Wow, was planning on two cans and thinking that would be too much. Shows you what I know.
If you buy not enough you will have to run to home depot in the middle of the project. if you buy too many you can always return them in no hurry when you finish painting. @@leny7829
@@ABNPainting That makes too much sense. Thanks for info so I don't have to run to the store in-between the project.
how many bottles did he use???
Usually takes about 4 cans for a door like that.
ABN Painting thanks for responding!
My door is black so I want to paint it. I check on amazon but I saw so many kind (Satin Canyon Black, Flat Black Primer, Satin Espresso...). Can you tell me what kind of paint I can buy. Thank you
We usually use Rustoleum painters touch 2x. Satin finish.
