Thank you mate! I’ve really got to try this. Will be super handy to have bait to hand on spur of the moment trips
It's great mate, salted rag, black lug, squid, mackerel etc can all be done and work very well too
Nice one mate, i do the same with my left over lug. Although I just have a big plastic box full of salt instead of the layers of newspaper. If I am going fishing I just take the box out of the bait fridge and put a lid on it.
Great video. really enjoyed it.
Thank you mate !
A great vid. I salt all my left over bait, which is normally shrimp or squid. You've always got some bait on hand, & you can cast it without it flying off the hook & it lasts on the hook too. I like every video I watch on youtube & always watch a couple of ads to help with the producers revenue. I know its probably not much, but I like to acknowledge the time & effort any producer puts in to making a video to share their knowledge. Well done, keep it up.
I haven't tried squid how does that turn out? Mackerel fillets are good salted. They go very tough and the fish go mad for it. Casting is a good point haha numerous times you watch half your worm fly off 🤣 thanks for watching the adds and leaving a like mate. It really helps and I appreciate it! Thanks for watching
@The Portsmouth Angler The squid is tough & lasts a good time on the hook. It stands up well to casting too. It does shrink quite a lot, so I am thinking about having a go with some cuttlefish as they tend to be thicker than the squid. Thanks for the mackerel tip mate, I'll have to give it a go.
Do you just take the head off and then slice down one side of the squid and open it out?
I had some salted rag in my freezer for about 3 mouths. went out the other day with crab, bluey, squid and the salted rag had nothing all night and thought i would try the rag and within 2 mins i had my new pb hound so definitely worth salting them and not wasting them 👍🏻
That's brilliant mate! I don't even freeze them. No need to. People laugh and say that'll never work etc and then you smash them using it 🤣
The Portsmouth Angler i do mine a little different to you. I just put them in a tub of salt all night then next day i put them on newspaper and roll them like you do with black lug then freeze them. So i can have 10 in one roll just so i know how many i have. So if i go for a cheeky one i can take one and i add a little attraction liquid 😉 then freeze to hold it in.
Thanks mate your the only one on utube to do a video on salted ragworm
Plenty of lug nothing on rag 👌👍😉
Oh nice mate. Sorry it took me so long 🤣 hope it helps.

I've been telling FB about this video so fingers crossed more subs for you
Thank you very much mate! Since LD has eased up I've nearly had 100 subs since the smooth hound vid! It's going well!
@@theportsmouthangler7297 huge amount of utube fishing videos out there mate but as i said your stand alone with this one
Very interesting video mate nice work 👌
Thanks Jay. Always good to help people out especially when it comes to saving bait and money!!
In Australia we do the same process with fresh water eel fillets to create cured eel. I use a plastic tray with a lid to reduce the mess and smell. This is the best bait for Gummy Sharks; School Sharks (Tope) a common by catch also love it.
Salted bait especially if it is soft bait it stays on the hook better as it is more resistant to wave action and resistant to undersize pickers.
Oh that's cool mate!! I like the air to get to the worm seems to dry better in my opinion. That's cool you catch tope that way being a shark you'd think it would go for a fresh bloody fish. It's really good for match fishing like you say it stays on the hook alot longer! Thank you for watching!
Good video, with the price of worm it makes sense to salt any remaining worms from a fishing session or as in my case if you get to a venue and the sea is too rough to fish, better to salt them than throw them away. Thanks for posting.
It site does David. Especially when it works just as good. Oh yeah that must've been gutting mate!
I will bore with all the details one day. That was March 23rd blowing a gale, Eastbourne Pier Closed. No pubs or restaurants open. Cost £700.00 supposed to stay the week but beaches closed Tuesday. Came home 5 days early. Now saving hard for my next outing.@@theportsmouthangler7297
Nice one mate, that's definatly worth knowing👍
Saves alot of pennies and can be just as good if not better.
Yeah, I'll never throw rag away again!
That's what I like to hear!! Especially now the prices are going through the roof!!!
@@theportsmouthangler7297 yes I've noticed that. Would it work with lug?
Steve G iv tryed with lug but they go really small
I always go down next to the half abandoned naval base and so far me and my dad have caught like 7lb smoothies(mainly him lol) is there any tips you can give me to catch big fish around about like 5 pounds plus and when are u coming down to the eastney blocks
If u do come down next to the eastney blocks look out for someone with a blue mohawk, 2 stands and 3 rods, a green bivy and a red and white rod
That's good going mate my PB hound is only 7lb 6oz. Had a ray of 12lb and the tope up to 50lb but I'm no good at catching big fish lol. I've had 4 blanks in a row hunting for a ray. Back to worm baits for me lol. Not sure when I'm down next but I'll keep an eye out for you. Shouldn't be hard to miss 🤣
Hi mate love the vids were would you recommend to beach fish in Portsmouth
Anywhere along eastney seafront mate. It's all pretty much the same ground out there. Thanks for watching.
Is there many plaice out there
The Portsmouth Angler you should go to bracklesham there’s big 14 pound tope
Those are smoothhounds mate. I had tope to 50lb last year from the shore. Not many plaice here. You get the odd one or two.
They were the tope because my local tackle shop caught them it’s a great little tackle shop when you next come to West Sussex to make a vid you should go it’s called southern angling specialists
Hello dude , what shop would you recommend for bait in Portsmouth.
Actual shop is only lock stock and tackle. But Solent baits are very good and a bit cheaper. They also deliver too!
Cheers fella
Hi, can you do same with squid? If So i would like to see video:) Please
I've done it with mackerel fillets and they turned out very well. I assume you can do it with squid but haven't tried it. I'll have a play
How do you put it on hook?
Same as you would a normal rag mate
@@theportsmouthangler7297 The worms look very dry to do so, I'm gonna have to salt some and test it.
@@theportsmouthangler7297 Thanks for the nice video by the way.
You can do it mate it's tough but once its on it on! Thanks mate,!
When are you going to upload
Hi mate. I have 3 videos to go but I've just moved and can't get WiFi until 22nd June
The Portsmouth Angler can’t wait
At the price of it if you don't dig ur own we pai £19a lb
It's getting to the rag beds here. Everywhere has been smashed by the diggers and not given time to establish again.
Nice video mate but it's not something i would like to try all the best
Each to there own. But it's great to have as a back up and instead of throwing bait away. It's a very very good bait for mini species but I've also had bass, straps, Smuts, gurnard, red mullet plus more on it.
wow you have no idea why this process works or how it works! "leave them for 2-3 days to DRY out" FML! What do you think the fecking salt does fella???? Blind leading the blind.
Ok mr.cruelty
