Dude, how many plates did you have to do this to? This is definitely a good idea. I've got some plates too that either won't fit, or fit too tight and you can almost not get them off. But, I've got plenty of plates so I don't have to worry about it. But, that is a really good idea and it looks like it comes out precise. Peace
I had to do 6 plates. Luckily my other plates have a decent fit by default. The plates arent perfectly formed, so the holes werent perfectly round. Now they are as round as the can get. Both faces of the plates havent got a decent flatness, but overall increasing the holes was an improvement.
Does anyone have any ideas for making the holes smaller? I bought a multi-grip bar and the ends are only 1.9 inches so my plates rattle all around, even with specialty clips that I bought. I wrapped some aluminum foil tape around the ends of the bar but that's only a temporary fix since it gets beat up quick.
hey mate, I've got some 25 mm plates with I want to try to fit on an Olympic barbell by doing this, roughly how many circular drill bits would I go through for drilling 2 plates?
Mine are also 25mm in thickness. I went through 4 plates with 25mm and 2 with 15mm. The circular drill bit has plenty drills left. With good and steady lubrication like white oil or like me with rapeseed oil the drill bit will last much longer. Rapeseed oil is an very traditional lubricant for metal work. And it smells like fryer.
@@Baerenson thanks for the advice, I assume a better quality drill bit will probably last a lot longer than a cheap one so im just trying to weigh up there price of that vs selling the plates and buying proper plates.
