This was a comprehensive and somewhat fair review compared to all the other olaplex vs curlsmith videos out there but I still the overall comparison is a bit of a reach. The actual description for the bond salve on Ulta says that "Curlsmith Bond Curl Rehab Salve is an intense pre-shampoo treatment, rich in proteins that targets hair bonds to strengthen and repair from the inside out.". From my understanding, while Olaplex may have some protein it's not nearly enough to be considered a protein treatment + it's active ingredient literally relinks bonds of hairs vs restoring protein to hair. I think this is why it's recommended to use the Curlsmith bond salve less for low porosity hair whereas you can use Olaplex No. 3 once a week depending on the overall damage of your hair. (As opposed to level of damage+ porosity) If anything I think the Curlsmith product would be an awesome replacement for Aphogee since it's provides intense protein/moisture and you don't have to deal with hard hair lmao. I'm also considering using it once a month in conjunction with Olaplex since No. 3 is not meant to replace protein/moisture treatments and the Curlsmith product seems to do a bit both. All in all I think comparing the Bond Salve to Olaplex actually cheapens how effective and useful this product is. It seems like it does it's own thing very well and would be a great addition to my hair care routine lol!
I’ve never used AlphoGee treatment but I have used both the Curlsmith Bond Curl Salve and the Olaplex No. 3. Curlsmith hit it out of the water for me. It was absolutely amazing. I would recommend. My hair was soft, the curls were popping and have never felt better. I would use once a month. Kisses to Lori Anne. ❤️❤️
Thanks for the comprehensive review! I would like to see more data on the CurlSmith product to see if it’s been tested and proven effective. For now, I’ll stick with Olaplex 3 due to its proprietary ingredient and the data Olaplex has provided on the science behind the product. It’s great to have options for those who are more cost conscious and prefer more natural ingredients, though.
I was thinking exactly the same. To me is kind of gimmicky that they are saying that is a bond builder when is not that simple to enter the hair to that level and on top of that repair it like that. I've researched the ingredients and I haven't read nothing that indicates that any of those ingredients is able to do so. It doesn't even have a protein ingredient per se, Chia seed is what they said is the protein and even then they specify that it works on the hair shaft not on the bonds. It has really good ingredients but it seems to be just a good deep conditioner, that's all.
@@Liz18Marie The curl smith has a combo of sugar based compounds called hydroxypropyl gluconamide and hydroxypropyl ammonium gluconate that rebuilds the ionic and hydrogen bonds. I don't know why they advertise it works on sulfide bonds which is what olaplex targets. I use they both to compliment each other on separate wash days for a few weeks now. My hair has been so much better for it.
I’ve been using Olaplex for 2 years and love it but hate the price tag and have never paid full price for it. I’m so glad Ulta just sent me a 20% coupon today so I can get the CurlSmith! Thanks for the review!
Olaplex is my favorite hair treatment! Helps with breakage without the protein. Even though the curlsmith curl bond is a bond treatment I don't think it should be compared to Olaplex. Olaplex n°3 is protein free and Curlsmith curl bond is a heavy protein treatment. Both are great products but not comparable..not one bit. Great video Tay💓
Thanks for watching! ☺️ Do you mean that Aphogee is a heavy protein treatment? Curlsmith isn’t a protein treatment and according to naturallycurly.com Olaplex does have some protein in it.
@@MADCURLS One of the Curlsmiths bonding product's main ingredients is Chia Seed Extract. According to the product listing, the definition of that ingredient is: "a unique liso-peptide protein designed to have a repairing action on the hair shaft." It's the third ingredient listed, so I think it might actually contain more protein than Olaplex.
@@MADCURLSthank you for responding. The Olaplex treatment is protein free. The Curlsmith bond builder has lots of extracts and protein. Now the aphogee treatment is the OG of all protein treatments it's definitely heavy in protein. If you can watch ua-cam.com/video/7Zy9OVXyuCIm/v-deo.htmlanes by Mell she gives a thorough explanation on both the curlsmith and Olaplex. Also I watch a scalp specialist ua-cam.com/video/JGlkEJOhbMo/v-deo.html on UA-cam she also stated Olaplex is protein free.
I really love the Olaplex. I started to dilute it to stretch the product. I gave it a try once and was pleased to find that the positive impact on my hair was not any different. I get about 6-7 uses per bottle on my hair, which is not super dense
Great, informative review! TaylorAnne, I tried Olapex No. 0 and No. 3 yesterday on wash day, and I liked it! I have mechanical damage. I just ordered Curlsmith Bond Curl Rehab Salve, and will try it beside Olapex No. 3 in my hair.
Yeah this two treatment are comparable, but they are two completely different systems, for one they don’t even work on the same bonds. So the fact that curlsmith is a brand targeted to “natural hair” shouldn’t, steer more towards them because the two products work on different bonds and the two bonds serve two different purposes within the hair strand itself. So if you need it it would be a good idea to use both. Or to pick one depending on what one you need the most, but chances are that you do need both just from even everyday wear n tear. But picking one based on the brand isn’t going to do your hair any good. Especially when you take into account that they both two really clean brands, and the fact that other than the additional fruit extracts the ingredients list for curlsmith isn’t anymore “natural” than olaplex.
I’ve tried Olaplex no 3 and Curlsmith Bond Salve, PERSONALLY I prefer Olaplex which is somewhat unfortunate since Curlsmith is a better value. Btw I got the DB machine that LoriAnne has and it’s amazing ❤️
I agree with Julissa’s comment: “Yay” Thanks Teacher TaylorAnn for enlightening me on “bond treatment” I bought the Curl Smith kit after watching Mad Curls video! 🙌 Mad Curls! 🌞❤️
First off I want to say I love, love, love the chart. Like that was like singing me a love song. lol Next I have tried the Olaplex treatment and specifically what they don't tell you is if you want the maximum efficiency; it should be paired with the No 0. I think they need to make that extremely clear but "marketing". Secondly I don't think Olaplex is a great way to spend money if you have longer hair. Meaning hair past your shoulders (I would even go as far as to say neck length) and the reason being is because you will end up using so much of the product that it makes entirely no sense cost wise to get one solid use out of. I guessing if I could make it make sense cost wise I would definitely try it again but for me it was a no. Now I never use the Curlsmith version of the bonding treatment however after seeing this video you definitely have sold me 100%. Love the short hair and really appreciate the video.
@@jayterra2060 Hey thanks for asking. I love it. I think it's a more cost effective version than olaplex so it gets my vote for that. If you can get it at a T.J. Maxx or Marshall's that would be a better bet or when they have a sale.
Good to see you back! ✌🏽 ❤️ I used the Olaplex treatment for the first time last week as I was getting some breakage. I liked it a lot, not something I will do all the time - just on a as needed basis. I am doing a Curlsmith challenge - only using Curlsmith products for a year, so I am waiting for the Curlsmith salve (living in the UK, I may be waiting years though 🙄)

I used both product and curl smith works just like olaplex and I also used aphogee does work I uses it on my hair after bleach and brought my curls back
I have used both Curlsmith and Olaplex. Olaplex 3 works better when combined with Olaplex 0, the results are great. Curlsmith is good and the more affordable option.
I haven't tried the Curl Smith bond products yet. I started using Olaplex about 2 months ago. I do notice less shedding when I use it. Since it's so pricey, I only use once or twice a month. But in general a bond treatment is great for any hair care regimen. It's nice that we have more affordable options.
Great and very informative video. I just purchased the Olaplex Christmas kit and vowed to use it every 4-5 weeks. I also bought the Curlsmith Scalp Detox line. Will give their bond kit a try after Olaplex 😊

Great review I tried Alfo gee but never Olaplex or Curlsmith never heard of this product, however I was considering Olaplex until you talking about curl smith? Is curl Smith for all types of Hair or just Curly hair. Thanks again for sharing ..
Taylor Ann, your hair is looking great. It would be good if you decide to continue to let it grow, not using any harsh chemicals to change the natural color, and your curls would then continue to look shiny and healthy.
On the ulta website curlsmith describes there product as a protein rich pre shampoo treatment. I am interested in trying the curlsmith treatment as a protein treatment but there has not been any research that shows that this product can work on a molecular level like olaplex to actually repair bonds. They are not comparable to me and the ingredients in curlsmith are not proven to help with bonding.

They gotta be!!! I know for a fact that Curlsmith is not better than Olapex because I have used both!!!! I bought the Curlsmith during Ultas gorgeous hair event for half off luckily because it was a total waste of money. I wouldn’t even buy it for half off again. Mainly due to it being a complete waste of my time and $!!!
I missed you ladies so much! I’ve been taking care of my mom, so I haven’t been really active online. Your cut suits you! Say hi to mama Anne for me! Love ❤️
Welcome back ! Hope u and LoriAnne are doing good 🙏🏼💙 I'm a HUGE fan of the Olaplex 3 (which makes my healthy, virgin 3C curls curl up even tighter which I love) but would love to see if there is any difference with the Curlsmith one 🤔 I've been using the Aphogee 2 min reconstructor for years when I use to dye my hair in High School and it works wonders however the 2 Step Treatment was horrible because my hair is naturally low porosity and very coarse 😫
The Olaplex and Curlsmith debate is so unfair . The Olaplex #3 is meant to be paired with the #0 and you won’t get the full value out of the repair unless you really make the investment to use it right. So the #3 being compared without a key component is a little disappointing to see on youtube because I really do swear by Olaplex .
I’ve never used 0 but I’ve used 3 for years. I always use a clarifying shampoo prior & keep it in overnight then use a hydrating shampoo and deep conditioner. Works amazing.
I definitely want to try curlsmith because I love olaplex but the coin girlllll. Ive also heard good things about curl smiths bond treatment. Thanks for this
You look so fresh-faced! 💖 Thank you for this comparison. I just heard about Olaplex and was wondering what it would do for my hair and if I even needed it.
I have the professional olaplex 1 and 2 which you are supposed to use together $$$$$$$$. The olaplex 3 has same active ingredients as 1 and two but not as strong. My professional connection is retiring and won’t have access to buying the 1&2 anymore so I was worried about what I was going to use or if I would be let down by using the less effective number 3. Your curl smith side looks tighter which usually means the curls are now healthier and with the clean ingredients and better pricing I am a curl smith convert.
I’m loving the CurlSmith💜 one also, and the super clean fruity ingredients is a major plus for me. I definitely need to double check how often I can use it because I’ve used two weeks straight so far lol; left it in an hour and my hair is good, but I’m pretty sure I’m High Porosity.
Goood videoo, I also used olaplex and aphogee for years now. But when using olaplex nr.3 you must use nr. 0 first. They work together.. without nr.0 you dont get the full benefit from it. Just wanne to inform you about it.
The curlsmith bond treatment also has protein in it while the olaplex does not. So the curl smith is a combination of both while the olaplaex ix a bond treatment while the aphogee is a protein treatment.
Hi!!!! Glad to see you. I was starting to get worried too lol. We fans (or better yet... I) have to remember yall might need breaks lol. Great explanation. I wasn't sure if I could need this product, but I might give it a try. Take care! Hello to LoriAnn 😁😁
how are you able to tell if the claims are true the same day you use it? I'm not too familiar with these brands so I'll research but I'm wondering if the claim immediate results
Because it repairs the bonds immediately that's why you only do it every few weeks. Those types of treatments are wonderful. They really work and for some if you do it too much it will make the hair too strong and it will be rough.
If you're using the curl smith could you still use the apogee protein treatment ? I think I'm confused if you're using a bond treatment do you still need a protein treatment in your hair routine too ?
Honestly your curls look a lot better with the Olaplex, the natural benefits and larger bottle with Curl Smith is definitely a attention getter. For me my hair is took thick and long now that Olaplex I would need two bottles and double the money, this is how Curl Smith can win with more customers and I’m sure it’s still a good product but I’ve seen a few reviews and I still feel that Olaplex is winning with their tiny little bottle
Taylor!! Can you compare these to the Mane Choice Boosting Kit Silk Amino Acid & Keratin Reconstructor? I’m not sure if it’s a regular protein treatment or a bonding treatment
I know they’re preshampoo but wouldn’t they work better without product buildup and oils? I used olaplex 3 once and my hair was definitely Curlier after. I didn’t think it was true but my hair is back to being less curly a month later.
I’ve had best results with using a clarifying shampoo prior to using olaplex 3. I leave it in all day & next day I use a hydrating shampoo & deep conditioner. If you have product buildup or use hair oil, leave in, mousse, gel, etc I would suggest shampoo prior to reap the benefits of olaplex.
Also bonds can break from regular things like brushing hair it’s not just about coloring/bleaching/hot tools. So it’s important to maintain the bonds with olaplex along with a balance of moisture and protein to have healthy hair.
Honestly, Curlsmith is less expensive and I could see immediate benefits to my hair. Olaplex is not immediately available in my area. Apogee not comparing them because it's a different type of product.
So the first thing gredients in the bond product that you're recommending whether it's bigger then the olaplex is because it starts off with alcohol a fatty alcohol I understand but on my thin curls it doesn't matter how much natural products ingredients labeled as SuperFood are involved its base of alcohol close the product to be mixed like a mixing medium 🔉 no bueno 😎🙏👑
Hi 👋🏽 a new subbie here. I contacted Curlsmith about obtaining the bond Salve on their website when they brought it out but I’ve noticed over the last few weeks I still haven’t seen it advertised online of how I can obtain this product here 🇬🇧 I have emailed them a few times about this but they aren’t answering me query as to how I can get this product. Can you please do a review on derma E bonding hair repair oil? I just got it and have used it a few times. I like it but not sure I’m using it correctly 😂
Sosa it literally says it is in the ulta website. I am actually very confused now because there are so many different claims but the website says protein...
Has anybody tried Hawaiian Silky dry hair conditioner proteinized hair preservative? I saw it in a beauty supply store for $5. I googled it and nothing. Tried youtube, nothing. Nothing about it on HS own website. It seems to be a treatment like these but its weird its no where online. I want to try it but it maybe a discontinue product the beauty supply store have on the shelf for a decade.
Ive used it about 5 times (curlsmith) even after a big chop because of bleach damage my hair wont curl up like yours..it used too..its just wavy..im pissed
I had a hairmare where my beautiful waist length hair was fried by a inexperienced stylist. I tried olaplex and aphogee. The aphogee gave instant results. I love it. It really brings your curls back. I’m wondering about curl smith I love their other products. I still have a huge bottle of aphogee.

You look so fresh-faced! 💖 Thank you for this comparison. I just heard about Olaplex and was wondering what it would do for my hair and if I even needed it.
Sis, gave us a whole presentation 😌
haha! it was a lot of information, I thought some sort of visual would help 😂
@@MADCURLS Definitely helped. Took screenshots 😅
💜💜💜the comb... lilac is my favorite color. 😄
Excellent delivery. Thank you for being detailed and to the point. 😊👍🏽
Fiiiinally back!!🥰🥰🥰
I’m loving the CurlSmith💜 one also, and the super clean fruity ingredients is a major plus for me. I definitely need to double check how often I can use it because I’ve used two weeks straight so far lol; left it in an hour and my hair is good, but I’m pretty sure I’m High Porosity.
I’m gonna have to try that curlsmith! I just purchased the Avesta botanical repair as an alternative to Olaplex.
Glad to see you. I need to try Curl Smith.
how are you able to tell if the claims are true the same day you use it? I'm not too familiar with these brands so I'll research but I'm wondering if the claim immediate results
Because it repairs the bonds immediately that's why you only do it every few weeks. Those types of treatments are wonderful. They really work and for some if you do it too much it will make the hair too strong and it will be rough.
Thanks for breaking this down for us. Tay good job!😊👍🏽
Thank you for watching! ☺️
If you're using the curl smith could you still use the apogee protein treatment ? I think
I'm confused if you're using a bond treatment do you still need a protein treatment in your hair routine too ?
Which product is best to revert straight hair back curly? That’s all I need to know please. 😩
Thanks for the video! Where did you get your automatic spray bottle?
Sally’s
I love the charts. So informative
I love the entire olaplex line on my natural hair.
This was an excellent video!!! 💜💜💜
Which water spray bottle are you using?! It looks amazing!!!
That’s what I want to know
You're so cute! 😊 I'm a teacher too, gotta love a good chart. 👍🏼 First time watching, keep it up!
Both sides of your hair came out good.
This is going to be GOOD! 🤗💜
I need to know where you got that spraybottle though 😳
No, I’m pretty sure you said it right in your last video: it’s saLve like that “L” makes a sound lol
which is better to restore the curl pattern after a keratin treatment?
I really like the Curlsmith Bond Salve. I haven’t tried Olaplex and I won’t with that price and size lol. Your curls look so healthy!
happy to see you!
Yay hope y’all are well and Lori
Taylor!! Can you compare these to the Mane Choice Boosting Kit Silk Amino Acid & Keratin Reconstructor? I’m not sure if it’s a regular protein treatment or a bonding treatment
Those are both proteins so definitely not a bond treatment
@@macefresnoza8352 thank you for clearing that up for me!!
If I use aphogee this week, how long after can I try to incorporate the olaplex
Curl smith is the BEST!!!!
Ok...that Olaplex( or the Curlsmwith?) could be problematic for me. I have three different porosities of hair on my head. 🤔🤨😐
Glad to see you back !!! Hope your Mom is well, love the curlsmith bond treatment has my curls on point. Take care.
I’m getting so frustrated trying to find out how to buy a couple bottles of this 👀😳👍🏽💪🏾🙏🏽🇬🇧
Can you please do a review on derma E bonding hair repair oil? I just got it and have used it a few times. I like it but not sure I’m using it correctly 😂
olaplex is great!!
Curlsmith is a protein treatment. Read the ingredients.
Yeah, it’s actually really not. You sure you were looking at the right one? They fo have some protein treatments
Sosa it literally says it is in the ulta website. I am actually very confused now because there are so many different claims but the website says protein...
@@fifir7010 it’s a protein treatment
Impressive presentation 👏 love it, say hi to your mom.
This was a great video! Thanks for educating us!💜
Awww Doggie 🐶🥰
So cute. Great info!
Such a Beautiful Young Lady! Just like your Mom.
The Olaplex saved my hair after highlights a couple years ago.. BUT.. Curlsmith is about to get my money!😊 Nice to see you. We need a Live.❤
Ive used it about 5 times (curlsmith) even after a big chop because of bleach damage my hair wont curl up like yours..it used too..its just wavy..im pissed
Give Olaplex a try. It really works.
Off topic question ,but what grade do you teach?
right now I am a long term substitute for a 6th Grade Math/Language Arts teacher 😊
I am definitely going to get the Curlsmith treatment. I love their products. Thanks for the lesson,
Omg the curlsmith smell is is Doggie approved lol!
Yes! Did you see him appear when I started using it!? haha
You’re really pretty 😍
