I was with Steve Gunn (my ex Coach at Hampton and their coach for these games) in the halfway mark at Banyoles. Steve put 2 cigarettes in his mouth, mad to light either one of them, his hand stoppped short, then he froze whilst gaping at this last 200 metres looking at the monitor in the marquee and then just fell over blissfully hissing expletives grovelling on the ground. i only wish smart phones had existed to film it all. I was also feet flaoting and sweating hard on the girones mugyness overdrressed in my Yellow jacket and trousers. So proud to have given the Searles' Mum and Dad grandstand tickets also. I did not need them I was an official helping the GB team with access to all COOB 92 instalations. Magic moments.
I remember coming back from an outing having recorded it on video, looked it up on CFAX, seeing they won sat down to watch my recording and watching it to 1750, I was so annoyed thinking cfax got it wrong. The next 250m were utter brilliance.
Jonny was a monster. I remember jim training in banyoles. He was spectacular best person If i see jonny in the street i never think that was a rower. Jony is a 10.
Being pre-WADA has nothing to do with it. They're Hampton boys - that finish comes from blood, sweat and tears from their time in the most competitive schoolboy crew in the country.
Bruh he was so proud he couldn’t help but giggle at it
After all this time it's still the most incredible thing ever 🤯
Watched this live as a very skinny junior. Best comeback ever

Thanks for sharing! Is the yellow jacket you mentioned the Hampton rowing jacket?

Where can we view the entire race? Absolutely brilliant Race!
Can't find it on UA-cam at all, very surprising - does anyone have the coverage?
@@markwilson4535 The whole race used to be on here but it was pulled quite some time ago.
That was golden years before WADA appeared. Any kind of miracle was possible!!
WADA?
