Also I thought I should add I do have a 48 gallon tank I purchased two sun jvc wave maker's I placed them exactly the way you showed in your video And the fish absolutely hated the bottom current lol so I have one on the left side and 1 on the right side on the top Will this still work to help produce more oxygen

Great video! Mixing the test solution is so important as it can change results. Mix all the test solutions well, especially the ammonia and Nitrate test solutions before testing. Also, be sure to clean the test tubes well after each use as a dirty tube can affect test results.

Kaveman kev keeps it simple
The nitrate MUST be read in natural day light, not under a lamp or any other artificial lighting. I stand right in front of my screen door every time and can see the correct color very easy. Before doing this I was doing a lot of unnecessary water changes thinking the liquid was red under a lamp when it was really orange. The tube will often look red just looking at it but when in natural day light the correct color will come through, which is more often than not a darker orange.
A high CRI (color rendering index) flashlight will also work.
Thanks for this. I'm going to try this next time and do a comparison.
People also go wrong by holding it against the white card. That will show a higher level. As you say, light needs to pass through the tube for an accurate reading. 👍
The 10 ppm and 20 ppm color blocks look EXACTLY the same shade of orange to me. I can never tell what my nitrate reading really is. Usually I just guess. (I record them in a log book.)

Did I miss the PH bottle tutorial 3 drops or did he skip it? I don't see it on your list or the video. I was following his instructions but I have one bottle left over which is the PH 3 drops. Did I mess up?

It’s my first time as adult caring for a betta fish. No more small bowls, one food diet, and barley decorated bowl. But that means that I was definitely overwhelmed with a lot of information, including water parameters. Thank you for making this, it really helped me learn and become more comfortable with testing the water and making sure my future betta lives in a good new home.

First time having a fish tank. And I just put the conditioner in and put my fish in. I just recent heard of testing the water through fb support group.... So, last week a did a full water change, and I did my first test yesterday.
I had 8.0 High PH, .5 Ammonia, O ppm Nitrite and 0 ppm Nitrate
Not the best but not too bad, gotta get rid of that ammonia

Well I'll be! You learn everyday, been keeping fish 40 yrs and had all the API test kits for ammonia, nitrite,, phosphates but never had a nitrate test kit which seems to be very important, just usually do 50% water change every 7 days, but that nitrate test seems to say so much about your water quality! You are supposed to hold the bottle completely vertical to allow even distribution of the droplets coming out of the solution. And the low point on the water or the trough of the dimple is supposed to be on the line
My 2 ammonia bottles came out crystal clear I tried 3 times and the same results. I had the kit for a long time but the expiration date still good.

Excellent video for my son and me to watch on our very first test of our nano tank. The tank has been running for about three days with API Stress Coat and Quick Start added at the start. It's beginning to smell a bit today (day 4) and so it was time to test using this test kit. Our fish are due to arrive in about 10 days time. According to our tests we have 0.25 Ammonia, pH 6.8 with 0 Nitrite and 0 Nitrate. I had added some fish food to the tank on day 2 to give the bacteria something to work on. Should I add some Ammo Lock at this point? Or should I add more Quick Start?

Great content! Love how specific the info is! I do have 1 question! I have not added any cichlids to my new 75 long and I just ordered the API master test kit and picking it up today! I want to test my Tap water to see what the PH is and according to the results once I fill my tank with my tap water..get my Tank PH to where it needs to be before I add cichlids. So question is when I’m testing my tap water do I test @ the regular range bottle Or do I use the high range bottle for testing tap? Thanks!
Great question! You’d want to start with the regular range ph bottle. If the results max out (light bluish color at 7.6) then you’d want to do another test with the high range ph test bottle. Hope that helps...Glad you’re enjoying the content. 😊

Just did my first master test after watching your video & from following your recommendation on tank cycling without seeded media I added 6 neon tetras & a ghost shrimp to my 10 gallon. Thank God i came across this channel. Subscribed. Beginner over here. My friend gave me his Aquarium as he's getting a bigger tank. I've had it for about 1 month now. Did this test today and results were ok. PH 7.0, no Amonia, no nitrite, but my nitrate is between near 80 ppm so water change is due. Just wanted to ask you one question. In regards to the dechlorinator would you advise me to switch to Seechum. My friend used to use API Stress Zyme and another called Tap safe i love fish which they sell in retail stores in the UK?
Welcome to the hobby! Stress zyme isnt a dechlorinator...And Ive never used Tap Safe. What I can say is you'll never go wrong with Seachem Prime. It is the best!
