    I adore how whenever he's skating he uses his whole body to express the music, like with the head and arm movements and how he moves his torso. God level artistry tbh

      In Notte Stellata. Top to toe, start to finish. Even when he skates to the centre and taking his bows, his movements are swan-like.

  • @saranya._.

    When yuzu skates and moves his arms, they never look uncertainly or awkwardly placed. Always graceful and musical. It is a wonder that he moves his whole body, not a finger out of place, with intent and purpose. He never flails around without meaning, unlike other skaters i've seen...

    • @elizzy8754
      @elizzy8754 3 роки тому +21

      Yes, you get it. But, to go further, I don't think he sets out to be graceful and musical, he sets out to express something and that feeling is transmitted to us as grace and musicality.

    • @saranya._.
      @saranya._. 3 роки тому +16

      @@elizzy8754 yes. To express what I meant, it would have been to say, he conveys what he is feeling and wants to convey, through every movement of his, even his facial expressions.

    • @eggizgud
      @eggizgud 3 роки тому +5

      Others whose arms and legs flail without meaning is because it's to compensate for the force of their super jumps.

    • @moonshadow--1207
      @moonshadow--1207 3 роки тому +7

      @@eggizgud
      Yes. That's the word "compensate". Flailing arms to compensate for lack of artistry. Too bad those "super jumps" aren't anything more than just ordinary jumps.

    • @eggizgud
      @eggizgud 3 роки тому +15

      @@moonshadow--1207 I wouldn't dismiss them as ordinary jumps though. There's considerable exertion and energy that unfortunately isn't controlled after the effort. Which is why it's actually harder, I think, to jump like Yuzuru because of the impression of effortlessness--it requires much more effort, beyond the jump.

    Yuzuru is all-around an amazing performer, his presence, his expressions, his musicality, his technical skill.. he takes pride in every part of the sport. He belongs on the ice, and he worked his ass off to be there, telling stories through his body, this is his design, his art. The day that Yuzuru Hanyu steps off the ice for the last time- I'm almost certain will be more painful, not only for us fans, but for Yuzuru- than the day he takes his last breath.
    They say an artist dies twice- the first is always more painful
    I often think about quotes from Hamilton when I think about Yuzuru and his career.
    "Look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now"
    "He will never be satisfied"
    "I am not throwing about my shot"
    "How to account for his rise to the top? Man, the man is nonstop"
    "Why do you write like you're running out of time? Write day and night like you're running out of time? Every day you fight like you're running out of time, like you're running out of time, are you running out of time? How do you write like to tomorrow won't arrive? How do you write like you need it to survive? How do you write every second you're alive?"
    "History has its eyes on you"
    The nonstop energy and persistence of Yuzuru is what made and makes him. He will not stop until he has beat himself.

    What I love is that he interprets and skates to the ENTIRE piece. His musicality is for the ENTIRE performance, and not just for the step sequence like most skaters. With you Yuzu, you get either a 2 minute and 40 second or a 4minute artistic masterpiece. From other skaters, you get a jump fest with only about a 30-40 second interesting step sequence. I doubt other skaters can finish Yuzu’s programs with equal quality. This man is 🤯

    I only heard of Yuzuru since the Beijing Olympics. As a classical music fan, I was immediately intrigued by his Chopin Ballade, Otonal, Origin and Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso programs. His arm movements and skating are in sync with the phrasings of the music (the crescendos and diminuendos, rubatos), to a point that it's like I can see the music visually.

And yet he gets an underated scores that he doesnt deserve. Yuzuru is a great example of a figure skater thata why so many fans around the world are so crazy about him..a trully admired athlete.

    Not one movement or gesture of Yuzuru's is extraneous. They're all so well thought out, & add to the drama;
    the bow in Seimei,
    the dagger in R&J,
    the violin in Origin,
    the booty shake(!) in LGC,
    the swan wings in Stella Notte,
    the slick back of the hair & hitching up of the trousers in PW,
    and all in sync with the music!
    Numerous other telling details, too. Yuzuru is an artist 🎨.

    Para mi lo que diferencia a Yuzuru del resto de patinadores es cómo entiende él el patinaje. Creo que lo entiende como un todo con el que expresar lo que la música le inspira tanto a través del movimiento de todo su cuerpo como del vestuario que usa en cada programa.
    Y es grandioso ver que somos tantísimos en todo el mundo a los que ha conseguido llegar con su arte.

    Yuzuru's artistry is out of this world! I loved all of the details you pointed out. My personal favorite Yuzu's artistry moment will forever be with his Free Skating of the Phantom of the Opera in GP Final in Barcelona, 2014:
    There is this moment in the second jump (I think it was a 4 salch) that he jumps when the momentum for the music is building and he lands AT THE EXACT MOMENT the music starts. I remember being so dumbfounded at the absolute perfect timing! I have been a biiiig fan ever since💛💛💛

    The first time I saw a video of Yuzuru Hanyu's skating I thought to myself how much it reminded me of the dance technique of José Limon, loosely called "fall and recovery". You can read more about it here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%C3%A9_Lim%C3%B3n I quote: "Limón spoke to the complexities of human life as experienced through the body. His dances feature large, visceral gestures - reaching, bending, pulling, grasping - to communicate emotion". Limon "used movements of the body that felt most natural and went along with gravity" and encouraged dancers "to strive for clarity and expressiveness of movement without tension". This is close to what I feel YH does, and he really uses the ice not just as a surface, but as an integral part of his movement dynamic and musicality. YH does not pose and posture to the music, everything he does has meaning and is deeply linked to the music.

Since that piece is just 95% artistry, musicality, and the way he moves around the rink with other elements (imo) its the best example of how musical he is.
