Homemade cola:
1/3 cup oolong tea leaves
7 cups boiling water
2 lemons peel only
1 orange peel only
3 black limes
1/4 cup dried bitter orange peel
6 star anise pods
4 cinnamon sticks smashed
2 cups granulated sugar
2 lemons juiced
1 orange juiced
2 tsp vanilla extract
To finish the drink:
Glass filled with crushed ice
1/3 cup oolong base from above
1/3 cup fizzy soda water
1 tbsp lime juice
A few drops of lime bitters
A few drops of vanilla extract
Piece of lime peel to garnish

Make your sizzurp in gallon batches if you know your recipe is good. I keep mine in pump bottles right next to the soda stream. If I want a drink, I just carbonate, pump and drink. 10/10

See I tried making my own coke at home and they gave me 20 years in jail .
Its weird the atf could actually identify Coca plant, thought they only train to harass and annoy, didn't know there was any knowledge base happening there.

Well you could start a huge batch and just insert the soda and or soda stream machine to make it fresh probably cheaper too

No. No it was not. It was originally an alcoholic drink mixed with cocaine and flavored with the kola nut and damiana. It was supposed to be a replacement for morphine.

I understand why soda's abandoned the kola nut... it does have a very distinct "medicine" kinda bitter flavor. Not really what you want in a refreshing carbonated beverage.
But flavoring some tea? Yeah, I don't think that makes it a cola. Otherwise, that Dragon fruit Sparkling Iced Tea at Taco Bell would be a soda and it isn't.

If you want something that's actually better than the soda version, try replacing 7up or sprite. Get at least 3 lemons and limes. Juice em. You want at least a cup depending on how much syrup you want to make. Pour the juice into a pot with 1 1/2 cups of sugar. Now heat up to a boil, turn it down and let it go about 5 mins. Cool a spoon and taste it. This is concentrated but you want a good sweet to sour mix. Then you just add water and use a soda stream or just use sparkling water. You can use whatever ratio, but I like about a half cup plus a few spoons to a liter. Just add more flavor or water and record how you like it the most for next time. You can also just make great lemon lime-aid w this and regular water. It's great! You can freeze the syrup or keep in fridge for several weeks.

@@GingeRenee Just don't try using monk fruit as a sugar free substitute. Thought I was clever and made some for diabetic friend. Tasted good but it will constantly re-crystalize and stick to EVERYTHING you use to make it.
@@darthbacntildeth7221thank you for that advice too!! I would have tried that since I like monk fruit & have several diabetic family members! Trying to get away from aspartame! Maybe stevia would work…Splenda should work & isn’t quite as bad for you as aspartame 😸🫶🏻

the flavoring agents in coke are Phosphoric Acid, Vanilla, and sugar lots of sugar. The reason its brown is due to the caramel coloring added.
Dr.pepper's main flavoring agent is Stewart's black cherry. It is mixed with their root beer to get the classic taste.

Considering there's no coca or cola in it, I'm sure it tastes nothing like it. It probably tastes good, but it's missing the two ingredients that are in the name.

Mexican Coke (real cane sugar) is the only way to go. My favorite Mexican restaurant in West Texas carries it.
You can get it in most of the south, and some places outside of the south too. It's legal to import, but it gets more expensive the farther it has to travel.

Excellent question. Believe it or not it’s the combination of essential oils at least in the original recipe. I can’t say what they use now for flavoring. But back in the 80s, Coke used orange oil for their citric acid portion. Whereas Pepsi used lemon oil. It made Pepsi taste less strong and more sweet.

Everyone has water. Anyone with a kitchen likely has limes, lemons, oranges, sugar, vanilla extract, and ice.
Black lime, star anise, and cinnamon sticks are normal pantry ingredients for middle eastern folks/various ethnic groups who actually cook, and don't cost much if you know how to shop for groceries.
The only thing that's a bit unusual here given the audience is the lime bitters, which is a cocktail ingredient, not a cooking one. That and the tea itself.

I'm trying this as oolong tea is my favorite. There is a special oolong tea named chocolate Wonder berry truffle. Not sure if you're going to find it. But it was exquisite. Kinda pricey as well and a loose leaf. 🌿 ☕🍵. Thanks for the tip.
