a really well programmed game, stable rasters, samples using 1 ym channel and smoother scrolling than usual for ST. These guys knew the hardware well! bloody hard game thought but definitely stood out from other platform erst on ST
I actually remember buying this from a store in Manchester. One of the best purchases ever. Bought it again only a few months ago off eBay and it's in excellent condition! Awesome game, but needs a trainer.... (for me!)
I used 5Khz interupts for the samples ! And you had to juggle the priority of the interrupt masks to stop the background colour gradient from beggaring up !!!
@@chris.hinsley Chris, you did a bang-up-job!! LOVE IT!!! Thank you :)
@@AtariCrypt in the days of old when men where bold. Before AI was invented. We used to drill holes in telegraph poles! And sit there quite contented ! ;)
This is the kind of games which make the Atari ST AWESOME.
While grewing up, I had a cracked version for my ST and while I didn't play the game much, it was enough for me to be fascinated by it and still I am. This here: 6:33 is MENTAL.
Also despite that the ST has more limited sound capabilities compared to the Amiga and Mega Drive, the ST version of this game is the only one which has music AND sound FX (there's also a MS-DOS version but apparently that one only has sound FX).
Anyway thanx for the video, it's a blast to watch this again ;]
Had this one with Silica's Ten-Star software pack (Which came with the STE discovery pack) and was an absolute corker back in the day! Loved the music to this game too. :)
Glad it brought back the memories. That's why I'm doing this :))) I remember travelling into Manchester to pick this one up. Gem of a game but so hard (for me!)
Cheers for stopping by mate :)
This one always feels satisfying when you hit the enemy. I actually didn't like this game at first but that chiptune and those explosions kept calling me back! :D
This game was solid. Very hard and very fun. Brought back some memories there.. thanks for uploading
Hard but great fun. Glad u enjoyed it.
Classic game. I used to play it with the cheat mode on. Pure carnage!
+MilosCov indeed, I remember buying this and I was blown away. I needed to cheat however! lol
as a 4 year old this was my fave lol
Very impressive.
Was this an STe only game ? Amazingly colourful, smooth scrolling and animations, sampled sfx !
Power of the ST mate. When not in the hands of a lazy programmer :)
I had it on stfm
Got this game around 1990 when I was 13. Bloody impossible to make progress!
it's always nice to have a little cheat now and then ;-)
We can (almost) always rely on Hewson to deliver the goods. Great looking and sounding game this, with a difficult learning curve. Us use trainers? NEVER! (ahem) ;-)
Hehe it's one of those games I truly love ... but it's overly hard too. Annoying really! I like challenging but this is like Custodian at times. Impossible! So switch on the trainer! :)
Ace game though!
Incase anyone else is wondering - no trainers are used on my other videos. I'll always state if I have :)
But then again, surely my recorded skills prove that without saying? LOL
Atari STEve Now Custodian, there's a bag of madness that I just can't help playing when the mood takes me (guilty pleasure that one).
yeah they're like two of the prettiest and graphically/sonically brilliant games (imho) yet they're so hard too. (for me!! lol). ataristaffroom
@@AtariCrypt Same graphician for both of those games. Nigel Brownjohn. Also did Beyond the Ice Palace.
I had this game as a kid. It gets repetitive after a while but in terms of graphics and sound it raised the bar in mind so much that I was thinking why can't the other devs do it?
P.S. Stop cheating bruh ;)
Well there is more than 16 colours used in this game nice.
would be nice if it was modded to use the blitter in the stfm and the ste for scrolling and sprites as there are some slow downs in frame rate.
still a well progammed game on a atari st btw i have my old non working ste in my loft with 2mb of ram and a t28 system solutions accelerator board in it i havent touched it since 1995 lol
Ohhh I'd give my right arm to have an STe like that!!! Cherish it mate - I'm envious! :/

can you turn of the sound effects in this game?. A little grating
Yup. You could.
