イブラギモヴァは、わたしの大好きなヴァイオリニスト。色香溢れる情緒ある音には惚れ惚れする。現代的な斬新さと（ロマン主義に堕ちることのない）豊かなロマンの華の両立は、現代最高のメンデルスゾーンの名演と言える。ライブでは１０回ほど聴いたが、いつも充実の演奏で、感動。いつか日本でこの曲を聴きたいーノット・東響との組み合わせを期待する。

My favorite Mendelssohn violin concerto. Alina is incredible!
Saw Alina played this piece in Toronto with TSO last week, and my ears were caught from the first sound she played - so beautiful and passionate. Being sitting at the front rows, it was so enjoyable to watch her performance and it also made this piece become the first violin concerto I fell for. I was a opera only lover but she showed me how vivid and how much emotion you can bring into music.

I saw her perform Mozart's 4th Violin Concerto this past weekend with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and I was absolutely blown away! She is the most expressive violinist I've ever heard. I'm only sad because there is no recording of her playing the Mozart concerto I saw. I want so badly to hear her play it again. No other recording I can find matches up to it.
I saw Alina Perform the Sibelius Concert last weekend with WASO - absolutely amazing!!!!!! Alina comes out humbly on to the stage almost diminutive until the music starts then she plays with such passion - truly alive through the music. This was no easy feat given the large powerful orchestra could have drowned her out - well done to her - she held her own!!!!!!

I think Alina's father is a string bass player. Sometimes she plays duos with him in recital. It is very likely that when David premiered this concerto, none other than Joachim sat as concertmaster in the orchestra.

'raging youngster races on through Mendelssohn' one could say, in part. Very passionate -which is indeed a quality! I was at the concert and wasn't very much touched and warmed by her racing on in serveral passages. But mine and any opinion aside, it is a very good thing that any concert can be interpreted and played in countless ways and so can speak to many.

I have previously admit that I have made a mistake in saying she skipped a few bars. I am learning by trying to see what she is doing differently. A healthy discussion would definitely help, Remember everyone start off being ignorant at some point. We are learn by questioning things, exploring, experimenting. Feel free to ignore my comment if you have nothing else specific about this recording to add.

I stand corrected after looking at the score and playing it through with her. Though that doesn't change my opinion that the sudden change in tempo has a different impact to how the cadenza sound to me.

Someone should choreograph a ballet for this music.
Having admited to your mistake you went on to say that you thin k there are better ways to express individuality than abrupt tempo change. The tempo change was not abrupt it was a slight acceleration in a cadenza, designed to display virtuosity. If you read about Mendelssohn's own performances and listen to more of his music you will learn that he enjoyed fast vivacious performances. Alina is one of the best young violinists, known for her lively temparament.
Of course you can have an opinion, but if it is based on ignorance it is not very useful. She is doing much more than just changing the tempo, and as I pointed out it is a cadenza and a live performance where anything can happen. Look, listen and learn, but don't make silly comments!
Thanks for your comment. Mind if I ask if you are know the violinist at a personal level? While I did admit I made a mistake in my comment, your response suggest you simply don't accept that others could have an opinion about her playing. Personally, I think there are better ways to express individuality then abrupt tempo change. To be able to identify things that I like or not like about a playing is my way of learning.

Her playing is certainly not superficial, quite the contrary, it is very expressive. You need to make some allowances for the quality of the recording. I couldn't see any evidence of her rushing, there are many passages where she slows down and others where she correctly picks up speed. It is after all a virtuoso concerto! You will find others, such as Heifetz, who play faster.

You are of course entitled to your opinion, but there are others who play faster. The first movement is Allegro molto appassianato - Presto and the finale is Allegro molto vivace. Both of these indicate fast speeds!

Everybody plays it slightly differently. That is the whole idea with a cadenza!
As you are still learning maybe you should be a little more careful with your comments (such as suggesting that she skipped a few bars) or preferably just enjoy the performance and learn from it.
Or maybe she returned to the original tempo at that spot which was different to how most people would, thereby giving the impression the section was shorter...
It's fine. To be honest, I didn't think i made a big fuss by pointing out that few bars that in my opinion wasn't for me. The "big fuss" came about after you seem to get so defensive about my opinion and try to act in a superior way trying to tell me what to do. It's just my opinion, I don't see what you need to make a big fuss out of it. Not like I am going to affect her career in any way.

I understand everyone plays differently (learning the violin myself), but as an audience to point out what she is doing differently and how it affects me as the audience. Not saying what she is doing is right or wrong as it's all subjective to how one feels when listening.
