- In this step-by-step Python for beginner's tutorial, learn how you can get started programming in Python. In this video, I assume that you are completely new to programming. We'll walk through how to get Python, how to run your first code, and how to get an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) to help you code faster. You'll also learn about variables and how to set them. We'll look at functions, if statements, while and for loops, and we'll import libraries. At the end, we'll also look at how you can troubleshoot your code, for instance, when you run into syntax, semantic, or runtime errors. By the end, you'll know how to run code and you'll also understand the basic concepts of programming. My name is Kevin Stratvert and I'll be your guide to Python. I previously worked at Microsoft for 14 years.

I've taken a python course about 8 years ago.... I have never made it through a full lecture and honestly cheated my way through the class to get the credit. This video was the first time I sat through the entire thing and understood what I am trying to learn lol. Why we still need to pay thousands of dollars to learn something to get a piece of paper that says "I did it" is beyond me.

practically started last week learning. I know nothing about coding and decided to start with python and after watching 4 videos from different channels, I have to hand it to you, by far the best. It seems some people providing beginners tutorials don't understand that people like us need a more meticulously planned presentation so as to not get lost.
I have tried over 20 learning youtube videos on Python and im lost after 15 mins being a beginner. This video and Kevin is the Absolute best tutorial i have come across in over 7 months of trying. I cant believe im actually getting on my Python screen what Kevin is showing on his for the first time in months. This has give me incentive to carry on just before i was ready to give up. Absolutely Brilliant.

I took a 2 days course with Google on Python over the weekend, and I am already an advanced programmer. They mistified it so much it felt like an impossible task. The tutor was running so fast and the method was simply catastrophic, compared to this course. I knew I needed some other tutorials. I stumbled upon this as a suggestion, and I am glad I watched. Suddenly I realise it's so simple now. Thank you for your work.

Exactly what I was looking for. I've been bouncing around through beginner videos trying to figure out why it was just a terminal screen instead of an IDE(which nobody has explained except you).
This is really good for a beginner. Kevin takes us through really fundamental stuff without skipping anything. He makes it easy to follow, explains everything using common language and he explains any technical language as he introduces it to us. For someone who has always found information like this really challenging to follow, Kevin made it easy to follow and comprehend. It actually makes him a pretty good teacher, whether that is his day job or not.

I had joined a Python for DS course 2months ago. due to some issues, I wasn't able to study everyday and I didn't event know why am I joining this class(just to not miss the boat). after two months of wasting time, I finally spent an hour to take a look at what Python is and since I knew JS before, I was able to understand Python quickly. thank you Kevin! you saved my life.

Great job of presenting a big amount a concepts in a concise and understandable format. The time markers were great so a person could go back and repeat a portion if they didn't get it the first time.

Either it is your teaching style that is starting to make things finally click for me or it's just that I've spent enough time trying to get a first grasp (hard, because python tutorials include arithmetic which is a huge trauma for me, but that aside, we've got Khan Academy for that). Either way, you ARE very clear and easy to follow. This was a wonderful experience, I have actually regained the will to learn coding where I was about to lose it earlier today.

I remember my first code in 1981 on a TRS-80 using BASIC.

i also had an original trs-80 and remember BASIC also. While i was watching this video i was thinking i remember "if, then, else" and it's eerily similar.
Hey, I was doing CPM on darn punch cards in 1979 for a college class! Then at least the computer terminal debuted a year later at my university and along came Basic and Pascal.....along with Cobol and other lower level languages.
Looks like a simplified version of C. Your teaching is top notch, all substance, zero noise, very helpful video. Well done.

Subscribed. Great tutorial! I wish I had come across this last quarter during my 'intro to python' class. I beat my head against the wall so long trying to get how passing arguments to def functions works. You illustrated it very plainly and straightforward. I also often would forget that 'elif' is a thing, and when I would finally remember and utilize an elif line, it totally fixed my code. So thanks for the refresher. Minor suggestion: when illustrating the while and for loops, maybe leave the while loop up on screen (maybe commented out) just so students can sort of compare the functionality and syntax. I'd love to see a tutorial, in this same level of simplicity, on lists, items, arrays, etc. Thanks so much for sharing this. 👍
