  • Hello prim friends! Welcome to our channel, @Thecapeonthecorner at Tweedthistle Farms, where we love to explore antique shops and homes that are filled with history in early American antiques and primitives. We are sharing the building process too as we build our forever home, a Cape Cod style home on our 5+ acres in Ohio where we also have a specialty cut flower farm. Follow along as we share daily life of starting seeds and planting seedlings for the cutting garden, establish new landscaping near our home to try to give it that early look and feel. In the growing season we'll be starting a kitchen herb garden and so much more. Keep watching!

    I also just went to an antique dealer and saw a lot of the Primm active antiques but the prices were astronomical so if you could every once in a while, maybe share a price or a ballpark range that’s reasonable I would so appreciate it. You don’t have to show all the prices but thank you.

    I like to think about all the hands that used these amazing primitives! It almost moves me to tears, thinking about the hard working lives that are now gone! I'm so happy that there places to go to get a piece of the past! Thank you for sharing your love of the past!

      Thank you very much! It does make me a bit sad too. Was thinking about the sampler I showed in a video made by an 11 year old in 1822. She is smiling. I'm sure, that her handiwork has survived more than 200 years and is now a treasured piece.

    Please give us a list of the better (your fav)Antique Shops across Ohio especially those you love to feature but others too that are of good quality. I Especially love the ones in close vicinity of others or even next door. Sometimes it’s fun shopping for Victorian as well such as glass and china. Ohio was historically one of the exquisite glass states and ceramic dishes! Love the EAPG glass from 1800’s if your not a pure prim. Thank You so much!!! Love your calm no music videos and your voice!

      Did you see my video from Peninsula Village Antiques? They have a nice selection there of some beautiful glassware. Only about 30 minutes from Seville Antiques.

    I recently discovered this channel. I really enjoy the videos. Do you feature shops in Ohio only or in the Midwest? I’m in Ohio and I appreciate seeing what’s available in our state. I live in southeast Ohio and have made 3-4 trips to Seville antiques. It is definitely a shop that is well worth the trip! Thank you for sharing and keep up the good work! 😊

    I new to watching your channel and truly enjoying watching. As a fellow rug hooker, your comment about rug hooking being a North America craft is a fact many people may not be aware of. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks for sharing about the rugs. When I was first married, my husband and I stayed the night at his grandmother’s house. He told her I was cold and asked for another blanket. She picked the braided rug up off the floor and handed it to him. We laugh about it now. Makes sense now that you’re sharing that they did use them on beds long ago. Lol

I live in Bloomington, Indiana and would love to make a trip to your part of this country to visit your wonderful shops. You make me want to see it all in person. Thank you so much.

    I also love when you explain items and what they are and what are used for any history you know about them you just mentioned a sugar clip I have no idea what that is what it means I’m very curious

      Sugar nips. They are a hand held tool specifically designed to snip chunks off of the sugar cones. I posted a video showing how to recreate the look of the early sugar cones. They were extremely hard and would need the nips to break a piece off. Then ground back down into the crystals.

    I Loved the story about the repaired bowl and that it might have been a wedding gift. Also that men's red long underwear were part of hook rugs. I heard that the Ladies wore aprons over their dresses to keep them clean for it was easier to wash an apron then a dress!

      Definitely, can you even imagine scrubbing clothes on a washboard, hauling the water. Even having to render the lard to make the soap. Our foresisters were hard workers to be sure. No sitting on sofas eating bon bons and watching soap operas for them!

      @@Thecapeonthecorner I so remember as a young girl my Mother had a large tub and she would scrub the 3 of us girls white anklets. For a short while we lived in a place that had no bath tub and she would bath us in it. We had a wringer washer and she hung our clothes in the basement and outside in good weather. Ahh the fresh smell of the clean sheets was the Best!

    I use mineral oil to enhance any of my treen pieces that needs a little lift…I do prefer the dry look on some pieces….just depends on what it is….the mineral oil protects and enhances the wood and I also use mineral oil on tinware pieces and the rubbed in oil really makes them look nice. Like others have commented, I too just yearn to see some the prices on these wonderful things so we can understand what kind of price to expect on some of these things. Flea mkts in England are called car boot sales 😃. Beautiful tour as usual….thanks so much for giving us this eye candy

    • @Thecapeonthecorner
      @Thecapeonthecorner  Рік тому

      Yes, some pieces are best left in the 'dry' barn or attic found condition. But some pieces really benefit from the mineral oil.

    To hold something from the past not just in your hands but in your heart gives respect to a time period where our country was being settled. As an open hearth cook, I have been honored and privileged to work with many early kitchen tools. If they could talk, what a story they would tell. But in their silence, they demand our attention and imagination. Thank you for reminding us of our roots. It is humbling to realize the hardships and pain our forefathers experienced and yet they kept on.

    I have been collecting antiques for the last 50 years but I have never seen such gorgeous pieces displayed in such an exquisite way. Truly the prim way is by far the best way. Here in England we don't seem to have preserved our heritage in quite the same way, we have a lot of pretty China and victoriana but beautiful old wooden pieces are very hard to find and I think that's why I am so excited by your channel. So I dream of one day visiting Ohio with a very large suitcase.

    • @Thecapeonthecorner
      @Thecapeonthecorner  Рік тому

      I believe it's because our early American settlers couldn't bring the Fine China and pottery, and glass pieces across on the ships, or very little of it. They had to make what they could from the resources available here. Carved from the woood, and redware and yellowware, all primitively made from our local clays.
