Greetings from Pennsylvania. I lived in Michigan 7 years while attending University of Michigan. I'm back in my home state now and live in an old colonial style home built in 1850.
My mom and her family lived in battle creek Michigan. My grandpa was president of the battle creek gas co. Both my parents went to the university of Michigan.
being the first ... in a line, has to be one the most fulfilling opportunities in ones career ... both you and your wife scored one for the books! ( i suspect if not regional, your prices would be classified as "firesale" prices, or as you stated, starting price...)👍👍
I am away for the winter-lucky me!-and when I get home to Grand Rapids I look forward to a day trip at your store!!! As to pricing I like the odd number which seems to invite a sale-3,5,17, etc-and I don’t know why.
How exciting! It was so fun to see all of the great items you found! We don't have houses like this in AZ 😥 but I enjoyed seeing not only all of the cool finds but the beautiful house too!
Four voices, overlapping...this was a challenge to watch. Uff da kids. I wanted more 1:1! Well, it got easier after I turned my volume way down. I could listen in w/o the cacophony! (Tough to see, even when I expanded the picture, but I think I saw a popbead necklace on the hook at the end of the Hoosier cupboard!)---What a long day! I'm happy/sad that I didn't see anything with my name on it (unless that WAS a popbead necklace!) ONWARD...looking forward to the next chapter!
This was an interesting video. I so enjoyed seeing all the antiques and learning how to price them. The only problem was that there were often two conversations going on at the same time. I had to rewind a lot to get both conversations. But overall I really enjoyed this one.
I grew up in Carson City, Michigan. I love Michigan!!!! I would love to find places like this home!!!!! I would want to buy probably 90% of what’s in that house and the house just gorgeous. How can I find places to buy antiques like this?
I had to watch at double speed just to get through it! My favorite item was the stuffed raven; it would look so great in my house! I hope you get the whole shebang for your store.
Mike got so excited, I'm surprised that he didn't offer to buy the whole place for $5000. There could be a valuable book, VHS, or piece of clothing in there. If you offer it all for sale at a flat price, expert pickers will come and take the good stuff. PS - I guess my joke turned out to be the truth!
I once bought an antique from my boss at a garage sale, and I discovered it was worth ten thousand dollars. I started wondering if I should give it back, but then I decided against it because she's belittled me as a slow learner at work. She once questioned me for putting black linens on the tables for the wedding reception instead of white, the correct/usual color (but in my defense, we usually put on *black* linens for *any* event, and I don't even generally set the reception linens). Oh, and she was upset I had signed up for a one-person shift. I'll admit, I am much better with a helping hand and guide, but come on, that's no excuse for being insensitive. One of our student leader's responsibilities is organizing who works which shifts on the schedule, and my boss scolded him for not noticing I had signed up for a one-person shift. When she asked him if she thought I could do the shift, I answered for him with a firm "yes," because I felt belittled by her. She said she didn't think so, was all "I've told you not to sign up for shifts by yourself, I've been very clear about that, I don't know how much clearer I can get for you to listen" (something like, that, so I'm not perfectly quoting her), and she told me I need someone there to give me instructions and guide me. I regretfully didn't stand up for myself because I was too intimidated. And that's why I don't think I should return the valuable item. I don't think she deserves it. If I give her back what's worth so much, after she was condescending to me, I'd be excusing and rewarding her behavior. And that's what's so funny: even though I have a totally natural and understandable motive to _not_ do her this favor, I feel somewhat guilty for it. I could always be the bigger person, but I'm just not sure if she's worth it. Why do the right thing for my wrongdoer, you know? For anyone else, I would've given the item back, friend, acquaintance, or total stranger. Keeping it for the money is just selfish and callous (and greedy), but since I'm teaching my boss a lesson, it only _partly_ feels that way. What do you guys think? Do I deserve to feel guilty, or does she only?
I look at it like you bought it for the price they had it for at the garage sale so you shouldn’t feel guilty. If you wanted to do the honorable thing you could always give them a few more dollars out of the massive profit you’ll make 🤷🤷
@@66uniqueantiques Just out of curiosity, what would you have done in my position? When you have a learning disability and people don't show enough patience and understanding, it can affect you and your decisions.
Was that a real mission- arts and craft copper lamp or a repro. Seen real ones, buy certain makers bring thousands. Think alot of the smalls need to be looked at closer unless they are fakes or reproductions. Can't really see flashing by on UA-cam. It's easy to get distracted, looking at all the big stuff.
I bet we only really got to see 50% of what was really there because of the massive amount of items there. I would love to go back to get a better look and am hoping we get to
Antique shop prices. I see lots of things left at 3 day estate sales. You have to price things to sell you'll be halling it to the dump. I don't even go to to the KNOWN higher priced Estate outfits. They think there stuff is gold. There has been so many sales this year people don't have to pay those prices.
I can’t say watching and “ trying” to hear you site values over all the loud invasive chattering and clucking was such an enjoyable experience. I did appraisals for 14 years in Pennsylvania. Rule 1: family members who are emotionally attached to everything including a straw? Nope! They would not be in the same room. 2. You’re there for them, I caution the cherry picking. 3. The Rocky balboa battle of the appraisers? Not good. Control your time and atmosphere. Noise level? Bad. Sorry. But I recognize your smart and well meaning. I will try a few more videos still.
They allowed the cherry picking instead of us charging them a fee. We are there to help with values not a licensed appraisal. The owner couldn’t thank us enough for the info and the recommendation of a reputable auction house to use

If they were in good condition, those cobalt front pottery pieces @23:40 are quite expensive ! ($400+)
They sold at auction quite well

That stuffed raven could have been a prop for a movie or book signing.
