Hope you have a great time if you enter the Challenger next year, we're looking forward to doing the Northern version next summer. Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks for watching Kev, hope you're well mate. After this event I was definitely ready for that relaxed weekend at Woodhall 😁 See you on another camp soon hopefully, you on the Viking weekend?
Another great video Dean. It was great to meet you and Steph at the Border Hotel a few weeks ago when I had just completed the Pennine Way. Thanks for taking my photo outside!
Hi David, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Hope you’ve recovered after your Pennine Way adventure and planning the next trip. It was really great to meet you even if it was only briefly. All the best 👍
Inspirational Dean. I have been training for the Edale Skyline after watching your race video. Now you have started me thinking about this one. Thanks.
Great video Dean. This is my weekly fix and reference point as I recce the route for the winter challenger in January. Your positive attitude is something I’ll reflect upon during the long dark hours.
Thanks for watching Paul, we definitely had to dig deep at the end there 🤣 Almost thought I might have to give Stef a piggy back at one point but she's hard as nails 😎
Thanks for watching Ann, it's was a such a great experience and ended up being very life changing as I now work for the Spine. Looking forward to the Wintet race in a week's time and then doing the Challenger North in Summer
Absolutely Brilliant video mate, Steff and yourself did amazingly (must have been emotional at the Finnish - it was watching it). Have to say that your ginger looked magnificent in the sunset 😜😜
Thanks for watching Mark.so glad we managed to complete it what we set out to do, no time goals, all we wanted was to finish together. The beard was looking pretty good in this video 🤣
Thanks for watching Mick, really looking forward to reccying the Northern section of the Pennine Way with Stef. We've done a few sections together already but can't wait to get back to the Cheviots
Amazing video Dean. Just come across it after getting the idea in my head that I could attempt the Spine Challenger in 2024, after I hit 60. I will definately be looking at your other Pennine Way videos. Well done to you both for completing it.
Brilliant video Dean you both showed real grit especially near the finish. Anyone contemplating entering should watch this it gives real flavour of what to expect. I had noticed your names down on the entry list for the challenger North, good luck on that one. Take care
Thanks for watching Robert. We were never going to be the fastest but we achieved what we set out to accomplish, make it to the finish line and cross hand in hand. Really looking forward to the Challenger North, it's such an amazing event and I can't get enough of the Pennine Way.
Cracking result Dean, well done. Haven't come across your vids for some time but glad I found them again. Amazed your content hasnt got more subs after all this time.
Thanks for watching. I haven't been as prolific with my uploads in recent years, too busy having the adventures to video and edit 😁 I'm not worried about subs, it's all about savouring the memories 👍
Superb video. So inspiring! I'm currently sitting in the bath after doing the Yorkshire Three Peaks thinking how the hell did you manage that event. Huge respect to you both 👏
Thanks for watching Paul. Hope you had a great time on the Y3Peaks, that's an excellent route. Heading back there to lead a running group on the route in October.
Well done the pair of you, there was a lot of grit and determination, especially towards the end. The climb up out of the Hebden Bridge valley must have been particularly hard in the dark (ankle-breaking territory). My recommendation for the chafing...Sudocreme every time (it's brilliant stuff). Fabulous piece of film!
Seriously well done to the both of you mate seriously I couldn't do it your fitness levels must be bloodly good mate just walking that is a killer definitely big respect to you buddy
Thanks Andrew and thank you for watching. When I first heard about the Spine Race I was in awe of the runners, I still am. It takes some serious grit to go the distance, I just about managed to scrape through 😁 Working on the fitness side of things, I'll enter the full one in the future without a doubt.
Well done Dean and Steph. Great to be alongside you for that adventure from the comfort of my armchair 😂! Nice to revisit some of the Pennine Way landmarks.
Thank you so much for this video. Its brilliant! I am running the Spine Challenger South Summer this year and watching it made me so excited. Nervous as hell but also excited!
Thanks for watching, you’ll have a great time. I was nervous in the days running up to this but the moment we set off I was all good. Happy to help if you have any questions 👍
Hats and shoes off to the pair of you. Well done! A great video, as always and a massive effort. Great use of Running up that Hill, though I can't help but think of Stranger Things! 😅🤣🤣
Thanks for watching Jamie. Stef's feet are almost fully recovered now 🤣 Still can't quite believe we made it to the end, thankfully there weren't any moments along the way that I hated, even during the tiredness. Must admit i've not seen the latest season of Stranger Things but it's a classic tune, couldn't resist a cheeky remix. I thought the lyrics were quite fitting for a video about an endurance event 'it doesn't hurt me, do you wanna feel how it feels' 😁
As always Dean an excellent record of your journey but this one was extra special. It captured both the joy & pain you both felt succinctly. Just bloody brilliant - well done to you both 🥇🥇
Thanks for watching Peter and for your kind words. I was certainly shattered towards the end, felt good after a nap though so I feel I could have carried on 😁 I'll definitely give the full race a go in the futures
Absolutely amazing!! Well done!! We met last 20ish finishers somewhere between Kirk Yetholm and Byrness ( we were walking PW North To South and it was our first day) meeting all those runners inspired us so much!!!! Will you be doing full length spine race one day? :)
Thanks for watching. I'll definitely be singing up for the full Spine, I would have gone for it in 2023 but decided the Challenger North was a better option to give us more time to train for the full. Having said that, I would have 100% entered the full if they hadn't announced the Challenger North 😁

All the best. Dean
Congratulations Dean and Stef, huge respect to you both! Dean I am in awe that you could deliver such an engaging video of this challenge, smiling and chatting away while so sleep deprived. Looking forward to following next year's challenge 🤗👍
Thanks for watching Julie. I really did get to a point of tiredness that I've never reached before, I thought I knew what to expect having worked the night shift for years 😁 I suppose on the night shift I wasn't trying to travel 180km though 🤣
Great video Dean! Congratulations to both you and Steph on an amazing accomplishment. Watching you and Steph cross the finish line hand in hand truly shows the team spirit you both have.
I loved this video, you really captured the feel of the event and all the key parts. It will be so useful to people thinking about signing up in future. Good luck for the challenger north.
Thanks for watching Jane, it was a really great experience. Think you're in the video at the start too 👍 The Spine family really do make it an adventure to remember. We've got our names down to volunteer in winter 2023.
I could feel those last steps you both took towards the end! Amazing effort, grit and sheer determination from you both. Loved it! I prefer to go up hill than down when my feet are sore 😜 I completed my 1st long distance challenge last year (PDC 25km) it was an awesome experience! Hope to do a 50km next year. Looking forward to seeing your next challenge 😁 🥾 This video has given me the boot up Ive needed to get back on it, Thank You both!
Thanks for watching Dee, get yourself booked in for a 50km early next year then enter the Spine Challenger in summer 👍😎 I love climbing, although a fast descent is pretty exhilarating but my legs work better on climbs than flat stuff. All the best 👍
Great video Dean! Brought back a lot of memories, especially of the sleep deprived state towards the end! It definitely becomes a mental battle. Good to see you guys at various points during the race. Good luck for the Challenger North next year. I'm still firming up my plans.... 😬🤣
Thanks for watching Hannah, it was such a great experience and a pleasure to meet you too. Hopefully you're able to get your name down for 2023... See you at Hardraw hopefully 😁🤞
Massive congratulations to you both. That was a serious effort and a true test of grit and determination. Steph certainly had to battle through the pain towards the end and is one tough cookie. Really great to see your love for the Pennine Way. It’s almost a year since I completed it and very rare that a day goes by where I don’t think about what an amazing experience it was so I can fully appreciate why it brings you back time and time again. Brilliant!😊
Thanks for watching Anthony. It's such an amazing route, I can't get enough of the PW. Looking forward to heading back north and reccying from Hardraw to Kirk Yetholm with Stef. We've done Hadrian's Wall and High/Low Force. Can't wait to get back to the Cheviots 😁

Thank you for watching, it was a such a great experience. I remember seeing Spine Racers come through in winter many moons ago after I'd camped on Bleaklow in horrible weather. My first thought was that they were crazy.... However, the more I learned about the event the more I knew I had to be part of it 😁 Looking forward to volunteering at the winter event in 2023.
Hi Dean, cracking video! I'm racing this summer's Challenger South. Just wondering if you know offhand some of the locations on the course where you could fill up on water? I'm debating whether to invest in a filtration system too, if I think I'll struggle to make between CPs with the 3L I'll be carrying. Grateful for any thoughts...
Thanks for watching, you're going to have a great adventure. I took a filter with me but didn't need to use it, I managed to grab water from the Spine Safety Team (SST) out on the course on the way to CP1 easily enough. Water points aren't guaranteed though so I'd take a filter if I were you. Sometimes the team are called away to deal with an incident so it's best to have a back up. Plenty of spots to filter plus a few places along the way after CP1 at Craven Tri Club Tent near Cowling, Lothersdale (at pub), Gargrave (public toilets), Horton-in-Ribblesdale (Public Toilets, tap on front of building) not to mention the Coop at Gargrave too if you arrive within opening hours. Feel free to keep the questions coming, I work for the Spine Race now so I'll see you at Edale no doubt 👍
I'm in awe of those that do the full event, especially the winter one. To cover that distance in winter conditions and the majority of it being in the dark is absolutely crazy 🤣 I've always said I'd never enter the winter events but I suppose you should never say never 😁
Great video Dean that took a lot of gut I was thinking about doing this and then I sprained my ankle on Snowdon but hope to do it next year
Hope you have a great time if you enter the Challenger next year, we're looking forward to doing the Northern version next summer. Thanks for watching 👍
