Ouch....I have blisters on my eyeballs just from watching that. Great achievement, well done to you both, and all who took part in the Spine challenge! I took 16 days to walk the PW in 2021, so I know how tough the trail is walking at a fairly leisurely pace. That was one well-deserved pint at the end.
Thanks for watching Maurice, I was ready for that pint at the end. My friend sent me a message when we were about 5 miles from the finish asking what beer we wanted, it certainly spurred me on 😀
Well done, missed your videos, you inspired me and my partner to do the PW, from your 2019 walk. I think we will enter the spine, north, as you both did, will start Googling it, just need to strengthen the knee after a fall in Poland. Nice to see you again…
That's great Mark, it would be amazing to see you on the start line. If you have any questions about the race, feel free to email me on dean@thespinerace.com. also, thanks for watching the 2019 Pennine Way videos, I'm glad they helped.
Thanks for watching. I'm so glad I recorded it, we'll look back on it with fond memories in years to come no doubt, just as we do our Challenger South video
@mattroberts3331 thanks Matt, crazy isn't it. I'm not at the level of fitness I would like to be for proper fell running but I'm getting there slowly 😂
What an amazing achievement Dean and Steph that was a brilliant video Dean thanks for videoing it mate you both did really well happy new year to you both atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍🍺🍺
Thanks for watching Jimmy, it was a great experience and I'm so glad I recorded it so Stef and I can look back on it in years to come. Some of the memories from the tough moment came flooding back when I was editing, both of us had times where we wanted to stop, so glad we pushed on 😂
@@DeanRead your name has popped up on a few channels lately all good stuff you have inspired a lot of us to get out camping always good to see you out with Jay 😎😎👍👍
Hi Hannah, thanks for watching. It was great to relive it while editing, so glad we made it to the end as there were a few moments where I didn’t think it would happen 😀
Absolutely brilliant vid, once again Dean you have come up trumps capturing your journey. Well done to you both on completing the Spine Race North 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Finishing next to the defibrillator! Appropriate. We’ve had so much rain recently, when you showed a brief shot of the river, coming out of Alston, I thought it was the path. A huge achievement. Congratulations.
@baggy2287 it certainly can, the summer Spine is seen by some/most as the easy option but it’s definitely not. I’ve spoken to a few that say summer is harder
Another brilliant video Dean really shows what you have to endure on one of these events. I've been looking forward to see this since June. We'll done to both of you. Take care
Hi Robert, thanks for watching. I tried to include as much of the tiredness, hallucination chat and physical discomfort as I could. I've never been so tired in my life, that includes when I had a newborn child or when I used to work the night shift :-)
Well done Dean and Steph, a super hard challenge which you both did so well in completing. Amazing achievement, thank you for bringing us along with you. The nights must have been hard going and the relative lack of sleep would not have been easy. Brilliant video, thanks for spending the time putting it together. Happy New Year to you both. Here’s to an adventurous 2024!
Hi Greg, I hope you're doing well and thanks for watching. It was most definitely the hardest thing I've ever done. I've never been so tired and physically shattered in my life, I loved it though :-) Happy new year to you too
So worth waiting for came across on the video the toughness of the epic event looking forward to following those dots again soon..well done to you both
Well done Dean..Well done Steph..fantastic achievement. That was a very interesting video, glad the Hobnobs are still featuring. Saw a guy out reccying recently for the Winter Spine Race,he was at Blackstone Edge Res at 3pm,having left Edale at 6.30am...incredible athlete.
Thanks for watching mate. The HobNobs are an absolute essential when out on the Pennine Way 👍😎 I’ve been up on the moors in the Peak District again today so I’m really looking forward to the Winter Spine Races. Don’t think I’m crazy enough to do the race in winter just yet 😂
Thanks for watching Peter, the Challenger North is a spectacular event. I really enjoyed the Challenger South too but the North is perhaps my favourite part of the Pennine Way. Looking forward to seeing you on the start line next year, I'll be at the event in some capacity
Great effort both of you. I definitely need to get this one done to complete my Pennine Way! Possibly 2025.... Good to see it done at a similar pace to what I'd do. 👍 I could almost physically feel that foot pain and sleep deprivation!
Thanks for watching Hannah, it was a great adventure and the perfect 'next step' after doing the Challenger South last year. Looking forward to seeing your you smash it in 2025 :-)
Very well done to you both. A fantastic achievement. Brought back some great memories of my own PW adventure in 2021. Would love to do it again though (definitely walking though and a comfortable bed at night). Do you plan to walk the whole PW again, or are you more motivated by the more challenging ways to complete it these days?
Thanks for watching Anthony, it was a great adventure. I’m definitely up for walking the Pennine Way again, not sure when but would be great to do it with the family. Stef is pregnant so we’ll have to wait a year until the new arrival can walk first 😂
Thanks for sharing. Great video as always. Love the Hobnobs in the shot at Alston. See you in January somewhere along the route. Well done by the way. 😁
@@mickbrowne6904 excellent Mick, I'll definitely see you at Bellingham then. I've got to go straight to Hawes from Edale so perhaps won't get to Hebden Bridge

I’ll see if I can call in to see her during the Winter Spine as I owe her some walking poles 😂 . I didn’t see Raster Ralph sadly but no doubt he’ll have his barbecue going for Winter Spiners. All the best for 2024
You're both amazing. That was fantastic to watch. I'd love to know about your nutrition and kit for the Spine challenger - maybe a follow up video at some point?
Happy New Year Dean, a great watch and ideal prep for some serious dot watching in a couple of weeks! One of these years, I’ll finally get around to volunteering, have been meaning to do it for ages.
Happy new year to you too. Not long now until the Winter Spine, I'm really looking forward to it and being on the team rather than out on the course. You should definitely give volunteering a go, it's such a great bunch of people and many come back year after year. Hope to see you there, maybe this summer?.
Haven’t watched your vids mate for a few years, you’ve gone full Viking mode; and got a lot fitter!! Is your daughter still in the Army? See J at all? ATB
Hi Gary, thanks for watching. I’ve scaled back the Viking mode a little recently 😂 I still see Jay regularly, I don’t work with him anymore but we still get out camping together
Thanks for watching. The race provides a GPX file for you to follow which makes life easier, the Pennine Way isn't very well signposted in some areas. Are you thinking of taking part?
@@DeanRead Nice im so glad your ok ive been watching since like 2016 im finally going back to the Peak District at the end of the month and Congrats on the baby !
I think A.W & Tom Stephenson would turn in their graves right now to see what the Pennine Way has now become. Just another something to tick off as fast as possible, so sad 😞
Thanks for watching Craig, there is room for everyone in the outdoors, those who want to savour the views and those who want to push themselves a little faster. I've had both experiences on the Pennine Way and both have gifted me memories that will last a lifetime. I think Tom Stephenson would be pleased with how the race gives back to Pennine Way, replacing gates, contributing a substantial amount to help replace the roof on Greg's Hut, volunteers giving their time to help maintain the footpaths. Having read Alfred Wainwright's guide to the PW, I feel he would be in favour of ticking it off as fast as possible, "You won’t come across me anywhere along the Pennine Way. I’ve had enough of it.”😀
Love that you completely ignore the ‘cheers’ with Steph at the end and go straight for necking the pint ! Great video really enjoyed it. All the best.
