Repair starts around 06:20 for those who want to skip to the good bit ;)
This video shows the repair of an XBOX One S console with an E100 00000703 80910002 error. This procedure also applies to XBOX One original and X models.
Essentially, 80910002 is an SOS call at upgrade time that the console cannot communicate with the BD-ROM drive (it's either missing, has no power or has a fault with communicating with the drive controller IC). Consequently, the upgrade will fail and the machine will be stuck in an update loop until the error is cleared.
As always, check the simple things first - condition of and seating of both SATA and Power/Signal cables on both drive and motherboard ends, as well as physical condition of the connectors themselves. Check cables for continuity with a multimeter for all available pins if in doubt.
If all is good, then check the BD-ROM daughterboard PCB for any signs of damage. If there is no obvious damage, then the simplest course of action is to swap the BD-ROM controller IC as per this video to a donor board.

@@breddf347 I have seen the same issue with PlayStation owners so switching will be just as bad or worse. The update issues stems from the fact that a hard drive that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 use to boot is getting damaged. A hard drive is basically a spinning circular disc with a small read write head that floats less than a hairs breadth above the disc. Anything like a vibration or loss of power can make that head crash into the disc. So just like a scratched game disc it can not read the information it needs to boot. I'm sure you are saying "but I have not vibrated dropped or powered off the system incorrectly". Most people do not know this but your system is always on unless you dig and find the setting to make it not on all the time. So what happens is the power fluctuates in an old house or because the system is not getting enough power due to running via an extension cord and the system shuts down incorrectly and the read head just scrapes the data off for you. You can tell this is happening if sometimes you get your dashboard in less than a minute and other times you get the green full boot screen. The green screen that takes a while is a full boot and saves you that time by being on all the time. Follow Andrews awesome video on hard drive fixes then change the always on setting to power save.
Mine said 100% done with verifying and 51% done with the whole update and it stuck there

I'd pulled my One X apart multiple times, replaced the HDD, tried various OS offline updates, but just quick re-seat of the optical drive cables in preparation to try a donor drive and it's now working fine, no IC replacement needed. Hard to imagine how the power/sats cables could so easily cause this dreaded error.

I have exacly the same problem with the Microsoft Arm chip.
After replacing it - BD Drive still wont work.

Hello From Mexico Andrew, I have an XBOX ONE S console, after a system update, I got the error E102. I have tried changing the 500GB and 1TB hard drive and installing the system with the USB without success. The same error keeps getting.
What I did next, was to install those 2 hard drives in another console and the 2 worked loading the system through the OSU1 with the USB. I think the problem of my CONSOLE comes from a diode, capacitor or resistor on my motherboard. Any suggestion? Greetings
Same thing I I updated my xbox to the new ui like a week ago, I was playing bf1 then I hit the home menu then it froze so I restarted and I cant get off the e106 code I did all of the restarts and even restarted it to factory settings.

andi use myy old 500gb toshiba hdd my offline installation was successful only thing i cant use fully complete shutdown mode cause it takes a wile to come on back just use nrmal shutdown or press xbox X button

Hey Andy! Great to see you back. So I am having an issue where when I try to update via OSU on my Xbox one s it gets 1% into verifying update and it throws E101 90020007 8B05000F. When I try doing a factory reset all I get is E106 00000000 80070570. I reset the HD via pc and I have tested with a known good hard drive but to no avail. I am at my wits end and I'm out of ideas. Any help would be very much appreciated.
bit belated but I had the same problem and realsised I had changed the dvd drive to decent copy- but not regognised but i did have the old drive so could plug it in for the update [and future ones]
My one x updates and restarts at the end of the verification stage and brings me back to the something went wrong stage and gives me an error code. I’ve tried mostly everything and still no success

Hi Paul, I have the error E101 00000503 80070003 on my xbox one x. i have taken the HD out and replaced it with a new 1tb seagate HD, formatted using the Master 9 which you posted a video about. i also downloaded the OSU from microsoft onto a flash drive but none of this is working sadly. any advice?

We have this exact error code and I thought it maybe a problem with the HDD, but this video suggests that it's a Blu-ray disc player problem. We have never used the disc player, only downloaded games, nothing has been spilt on it. Any ideas?
I just reseated the power and data cables (both ends) from the BD drive and my One X was good as new. I'd been fuming for 8+ months, tried new HDDs, several offline updates and nothing worked. Just a T10 and a T8 security driver was all that I needed. Sure beats several hundreds to send it to MS to get replaced with someone else's faulty xbox.
I throw my xbox out of balcony and dvd stuff was missing but it still worked until this problem xD yea so i watch this and go find that dvd thing, now im back online 🤣 thanks mate

I had the very same problem, instead of desoldering the chip all I did is I disconnected bluray drive and swapped the two wires connecting it to the motherboard, paid about 5 pounds for both of them on eBay. It worked for me.
Mind that the drive was responsive during the failed updates (E100)

Hi Andrew. I replaced my HDD with the help of your other tutorial. Unfortunately after the OSU verification process via USB stick my one x reboots into the error code : E100 00000706 80070002. Do you know what to do from here? Is this still BR Disk Drive related?
Hi Phil,
It's likely - have a look on the System Support partition, in the "oddfwupd" folder - there are log files in here that will detail what is going wrong.
@@AndrewPaul Thanks Andrew. Meanwhile I got it working. I just disconnected the WIFI Card and then did a regular OSU. After the first start up of the Xbox I plugged it back in and everything is working fine now. Strange, but thought you might known. Best regards, Phil

Did you get the chip from another console? do they sell it separately? I tried to do it in an xbox S. With the chip of a FAT, it didn't work
Hi, you can't swap the chips - only the boards. The original chip needs to stay with that particular console.

I just pull out my series x disk driver before for some reason, when iit on sleep mode my xbox run the update and it stuck on step 3/3 at 66%, if i plug in the disk drive will it fix the problem ? ? ?
As in the BD-ROM drive? If so, yes that could well be your issue.

I have the error E100 00000706 80070003, when I restart the xbox I have to press eject + sync so that it gives me the option continue, otherwise restart only appears. when I press continue only 3% of the process advances and the error appears. Any idea how to fix it? Greetings from Chile
Maybe the little one should be reprimanded for destroying a very expensive XBOX One/ XBOX One X and would be a good idea to stop little ones from doing stupid things to the console.
i had just purely a internet error and got stuck in a update . used wifi and the xbox app on phone to setup console seemed to work better with wired internet . dont even bother on wifi . if not force usb drive recovery . if not ur disc drive or hdd is dead
thanks. my issue was because i removed the cd drive and didnt put it back and was playing my xboxone opened up. when the update came i couldnt update the cd drive chip and gave me this error.

Hi Andrew, if I desoldered the daughter board off the original disc drive and resoldered to the doner disc drive rather than just IC chip, will it work?
No not likely, the issue is on the board itself hence you needing to swap the chip to the donor.

Hi Andy! Xbox one phat got error e100 damaged hdd, replaced hdd,rebuild file system, got offline update on58% restart and no pass more. Dvd drive have disc inside and spining is hearind well. Second xbox one phat, usb cable joypad is not connecting. Replaced bt wifi/ front pcb still no controller connection. Pcb is new, system new few times used. Should i replace sb chip? Or need to dig more deep?

Thanks for the clue- got caught in an update loop, and realsied that I had installed a replacement DVD drive recently- put the broken on back in and it continued the update for the last bar.

@@robertogaytan9785 Hola, no te servira, ya que estan casados por ID, esta es solucion en caso que la unidad original este fallando y no encuentres la averia, se migra el IC de la lectora original o otra que sirve de donante.
Sadly not - a mismatched drive will result in an end parameter of 80910008. There's no fix for this currently if you're missing the original drive logic board.

Mines still broken, I'm finding vids to help me cuz I can't afford a repair, my update got stuck at 63% then I kept turning it on and off cuz it was stuck for an hour on step 3, 63% and 85% I think, over all
What are the full error codes it displays when the 'Something went wrong' screen appears? They should start 'E'.
If you're still using the original hard disk drive then it may well have failed with bad sectors hence the freezing up during update - if so, try a new disk (minimum 500GB in size, maximum ideally no more than 2TB).
Ahhhhhh...So im guessing my xbox can't identify my disk reader from inside my cabinet...Ill put that back in now 🤣🤣
got two xbox one s , 500gb each. 1 had faulty hard drive. been replaced with 1tb hdd. with the offline update gives error e100
tried new hard drive. partitioning using tools. just plain clean hard drive. uploading some additional files to usb stick with the update
anything i do. once update downloaded and verified after update goes to E100
i've tried updating both consoles. both same e100
working 500gb works fine in both consoles., all fully functional

Is there a way to see which daughterboard matches my motherboard? is there any codes i need to match because i cant see any and i have 3 daughterboards and one of them is the right one i just cant figure out which one is right when my xbox is stuck in the update loop :(
Sadly not from the outside. I know it's not much use to you now, but I always mark the original daughterboards with the end of the console serial number when removed. It's saved me once or twice from a couple of wasted hours marrying stuff back up!
Good news is that it won't really harm anything - it'll just throw E100 until you hit the correct board. At least you've narrowed it down to just the three! :-)
Interesting. So happy you posted this video. I have a customer repair and is stuck on this error. I was considering swapping chips, but was thinking the chip itself was corrupted . But I'm definitely gonna have to inspect the bluray drive and try this option...

Hi I have a problem. I repair my console changing retimer a hdd to ssd. when i instaling update instalation is aborted in 63%. in logs in ssd i see FAILED to find ODD physical device but i have all digital version. I havent optical drive. Thanks for help
Do you have a solution for error code E100 00000703 80910006? This is what im facing and tried the drive upgrade solution but without actually changing the drive. I have also checked the DVD drive and that looks all good and has no issues, so I connected it all together correctly and tried again but still getting the same error message.

I didn't have that exact e100 code but it was an e100 the last numbers were like 100018 or something like that so I was skeptical about doing this but I had an old drive laying around and swapped it it worked right away 👍 Thanks
Man cant tell you how glad I found this video, my sons xbox has been sat for a year with this damn error, we had hdd out cleaned reinstalled , still had the error so gave up, after seeing this we stripped it opened it up and saw there was something he must of spilt on it (kids!,) we cleaned it up as didnt have spare board just to see, put back in and presto it worked! Im in an infinite update loop 53%, Replaced HDD & HD-rom with a different working xbox, (Bought them together), And still the xbox will remain in the update loop.

The chip is married to the console - if you change the board without moving the chip across you'll be in a whole world of trouble.
