    Tip: while heating the bottom of the hdmi port, tap on the PCB. Not hard. And it will fall out when it is ready.

    Great video. I have an XBOX One S with no video output. Ports look pristine, no shorts on the board I can find. Replaced the retimer chip to no avail, then I swapped the HDMI ports just in case and still got nothing. Any ideas on what else can cause this issue?

    PS the reason I hear is because I was sent a link from a person asking if I could do this repair LOL Good Job on the port. I would not use the hot air iron it is so much easier to use a properly set up reworking station

      Hi Daniel,
      Many thanks - yeah it wasn't a good effort from the initial shop. Sadly we get a lot of these types here in the UK.

    Thank God for people like you, those of us without the knowledge would almost certainly have thrown the console away thinking it was buggered. Thank you for passing on your knowledge.😃😃

    Late to the party here, however I'd like to add my 2 cents.
    First at all, I like your repair videos and the way you explain things.
    Said that, from experience using the hot air station to resolder the connector was overkill and time consuming.
    A desoldering pump to free the 4 retaining holes from solder and thinning of the hdmi data pads would have been a better approach in my opinion.
    About resoldering the connector, plugging the connector in and securing it to the board using a regular iron tip would have been a 2 minutes job, with the added bonus that solder would have bonded to both sides of the board. Then finishing the job off would have been a matter of doing exactly what you did.
    So tl;dr a regular iron to dedolder/resolder the connector to the 4 retainers on the board would have saved you a good 10-15 minutes. IMHO of course.

    Andrew Paul, I've watched some of your vids and subscribed to you.. I have a rework station but its a 909d+ I have used the heat the chip with 440c my air states its less than or equal to 24l/min. do i not have a rework station that can handle taking HDMI switch chip off a x box 1x? any help would be appreciated. Thank you..

  • @ClovisX
    @ClovisX 6 років тому +1

    The reason they think that chip is married to the motherboard is because they could not find a youtube video on the chip LOL and the fact that they have no education in component level electronics what so ever and are learning everything they know as to what they can and can not do off the piggybanks of there customers by self-training on common problems and by watching UA-cam Videos. Unfortunately, this is a widespread epidemic so tell everyone to ask their repairman for some kind of proof that they have some kind of formal education it is the easiest way to prevent what you are looking at in this video, trust me I know I get this every day in my licensed shop it is so sad.

    Yo ma man, I fixed some guys HDMI ports by swapping them over thanks to this tutorial. Best one so far from the rest on Jewtube.
    1) Great call on deluding the lead free solder they used
    2) Great call on how hard this job actually is because of the giant heat sink board and shit ton of heat it needed, and of course not rushing by pushing the ports down lifting tracks
    p.s I love my decorators heat gun

    What temps are you using on your soldering iron and hot air station

    • @AndrewPaul
      @AndrewPaul  6 років тому +1

      Air station is 485C @ 100l/min.
      Soldering iron (it's a JBC so you can get away with lower temps than many other stations) 350C.

    Would you ever use a trace pen or not good enough ?

    • @AndrewPaul
      @AndrewPaul  6 років тому +1

      I wouldn't for connections to the rear of the port - a physical link is a better option as they do flex slightly with cables inserted or when they're moved when plugged in. I would imagine it'd work at a pinch though.

    Went to remove an hdmi port from an xbox one s today and was using my
    new hot air station i purchased from Amazon. I fluxed the led free
    solder and added some leaded solder to the ground pads and used my hot
    air gun at 480 degrees. I worked at it for awhile and could not for the
    life of me get the solder to melt to release the port. I have no idea
    what the deal was. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Would you hazard a guess as to what might be wrong with xbox one S, when there is no signal, controllers don't sync, display reset doesn't work(no second beep) and troubleshoot menu doesn't show up but the working light comes on?

    • @AndrewPaul
      @AndrewPaul  6 років тому

      It'll be a dead hard disk.

    • @raifthemad
      @raifthemad 6 років тому

      Took it apart only thing wrong with hdd was airflow temperature error crystaldisc didn't find anything. Could this be serious enough to make the disc unworkable?

    • @AndrewPaul
      @AndrewPaul  6 років тому

      Ideally you need to check it with HDAT2. If that comes back clean, format the disk using the video on the channel to prepare it for use and reinstall the OS using OSU1.
