RIP Sir Michael Parkinson (March 28, 1935 - August 16, 2023), aged 88 And RIP Muhammad Ali (January 17, 1942 - June 3, 2016), aged 74 You both will be remembered as legends.
In his later years Ali used to spend time here on UA-cam watching these interviews with Parkinson because they brought back good memories. Parkinson heard about this and sent him DVDs of the shows. Quite a touching gesture for a great man. R.I.P.
Parkinson never denied he found Ali to be a great man, despite disagreements. Some of the early interviews were fierce at times and I think it shows the respect both men held for each other that they met time and time again.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.❤❤ I Pray this blesses you in Jesus name amen
This man is a true legend not afraid to stand up for what he believes his religion and the sport he loves!!! This is what I call a real man who has such confidence and wisdom God bless him!!!!
1:02 -- 1:30...the rhythms, the cadences, and the eye contact. A master class in the art of communication in less than 30 seconds. This is how you hold an audience. This is how you get to be the Greatest.
Im by now means a boxing fan, this man was far more than his ability in the ring. His wit, sense of humour entwined with self confidence gave us happiness..
Wow 8 years later in another interview he had such a tough time getting his words out. Parkinson's Disease was one adversary Ali couldn't defeat. A truly ruthless and cunning opponent. In a way that only The Greatest could have done it he did contribute enormously to the fight against this insidious disease by bringing awareness to it and raising money to help to one day add it to his list of victories. He was truly a Champion. R.I.P. Muhammad Ali.
Only sportsmen to outgrow his sport. Truly a great, watched this over 10 times and I can keep watching this. Muhammad Ali’s life story is truly a remarkable story. Legends never die
Ali was so AMAZING!! So ahead of his time and handsome, too. He was one of the most intelligent men to ever live!! He was simply fantastic. Nobody but nobody surpassed him in kindness and class. He was very amicable toward white people...even the ones who were mean to him in his early years. Every time he KO'd an opponent he would send the defeated man's wife $50,000!! Every time. He became a Muslim, yes, but his love for his Jewish brothers and Christian brothers never waned!! He was such a cultured gentleman. There will never be another like him. And patriotism?? Forget about it!! He never forgot the country that had given him so much. He was always, always talking about how great America is and how a teenager from the slums of Louisville could achieve celebrity status in a few short years and earn enough money to buy a castle. He loved America soooo much & I can't stress that enough; always talking about this great land of opportunity that made welcome millions of immigrants so they could advance as their parents could not in the 'old country'. What a great, great man. What a hero!! We should name a city after him.
+RAIDERS58th i'm 29 and Malaysian, i knew what the title actually meant. Parkinson was a great interviewer with easily the best temperament and a non-egoist.
+MrHEC381991 Even MLK admitted he hearded his people into a burning building unknowingly. He changed his stance on things the last 6 months of his life and ended up DEAD.
RIP to a wonderful human being. He inspired so many people, me included, and will continue to be a role model well beyond his passing. He had the courage of his convictions, a rare thing today. Enjoy the promise land.
I owe my life to Muhammad Ali since 1974 when I first heard him speak on the BBC Michael Parkinson show , and now I fight Parkinson’s disease in his honour.
Yea he could knock people out with a style which is entertaining when you watch, but it wouldn't be as entertaining if you were the one who's getting knocked out. He is the greatest boxer of all times, not an entertainer and you should pay respect to it. You may as well be the greatest keyboard fighter of all times :D Nah just kiddin, even thats too much for you :D
The thing is on the first interview ali was thinking parky was trying to fuck him up and catch him out .. he realised parky is a good guy and a gem that would not speak a bad word of ali .. ali noticed that eventually and they spoke and listened to each other :D .. makes u look how good they got over problems of trust and becam friends eventually :D:D:D:D best presenter ever and best boxer / life strory host :D
I've always said that myself, if i could be any man that has ever lived it would be Muhammad Ali, i look up to him like a God. R.I.P Ali, I'll forever miss you.
Ali was a brilliant fighter, very likely the smartest man who ever climbed into a boxing ring. He viewed every fighter as a problem to be solved, and usually you watch the solution unfold as the fight went on. The only guy who ever baffled him was Ken Norton. Ali never really figured him out, even though he won their second meeting. But he had high intelligence and a wonderful memory. Roone Arledge, the great president of ABC sports, related a story in which he sat down with Ali and his agent discussing terms for TV appearances or something, and Ali was gazing off into space, apparently not paying attention. Then, three months later, when they met again and a question about the contract came up, Ali began citing verbatim chapter and verse from the conversation.
In terms of his academic record he wasn't considered to be of high intellect but I doubt there's anyone outside his high school who thought he lacked intelligence. Ali had an incredibly sharp mind. He also had an extremely good understanding of language as show in his poetry: "If you were surprised when Nixon resigned, wait till I've whupped Foreman's behind". I don't think we'll see his like again.
Right. To my puzzlement, and apparently his own, he scored a 78 on the army's IQ test, which disqualified him from service until later in the war, when standards were lowered, and at which time he resisted going.
I heard about this IQ score but wasn't aware he took a test administered by the army. IQ has always been problematic partly because it's very difficult to construct a test that is totally unbiased. In addition to being an excellent boxer he was also a excellent communicator. The briefest of interview clips will demonstrate that.
Geoff Poole Well, said. Bias is definitely a possible element. I'm not sure exactly what kind of intelligence that test was measuring, because it certainly whiffed on Ali.
What a legend have watched alot of stuff on here in the last few days about Ali. The change in Ali on the Parky interviews from 1974 to 1981is so sad. His last two fights against Holmes and Berbick should never have happened. Should have retired after the 3rd Frazier fight. Would have been so interesting what involvement he could have had in politics or public life etc if this cruel disease hadn't robbed him of his last 30 years of life. RIP The Greatest.

U learn something new everyday. Lively gesture
Lovely. Damn spell check

Just heard of Michael’s passing too. RIP. Two great men.
Yeah...that brought me back herr😢❤. Both wonderful men.

Big Respect for Michael Parkinson's for recognising the genius that is Muhammad Ali
i love their chemistry all the interviews are hilarious and really get eachother thinking
What I remember from watching those interviews was Ali's mental sharpness and quick wit. People who knew nothing about boxing knew Ali.
You recognized it too!! Why do underestimate Mr.Parkinson?!
3:00 hahahahahah this is the wrong place to get tired! Muhammad Ali is simply the greatest ever! what a charismatic person!
He was the whole fucking package. There's not a sports entertainer like him. One of a kind.
You said it well brother. 🍀👊👍
No need to yell.
This man is a true legend not afraid to stand up for what he believes his religion and the sport he loves!!! This is what I call a real man who has such confidence and wisdom God bless him!!!!
You will be missed Mr. Ali!!
i am 14 and whilst i am not a boxer this guy inspires me in my sport he is a true legend in my eyes. A real hero
This is why people still love him; pure charisma.
Muhammed Ali will be missed but not forgotten!!! I love my brother 💚💚💚
Malcolm X too ☺
"will be missed but not forgotten"
NEVER !!!
Greatness has no comments and only admiration! All I have to say is thank you Muhammed Ali for any comment will not suffice to your legacy!

Hi.
Wow 8 years later in another interview he had such a tough time getting his words out. Parkinson's Disease was one adversary Ali couldn't defeat. A truly ruthless and cunning opponent. no one can literally fight a powerful disease I feel so bad
Hero..., blessed to be called Muhammad,
May God Almighty shower him with mercy in the next life
Wish the title was true
Shemzinho it's a misleading title the interviewer is called Parkinson the person who uploaded this needs to modify the title of the video
***** Yeah I know who the interviewer is; that's why I said I wish the title itself was true (in relation to Ali's Parkinsons disease)
+Shemzinho Roger that.
It is true
Only sportsmen to outgrow his sport. Truly a great, watched this over 10 times and I can keep watching this. Muhammad Ali’s life story is truly a remarkable story. Legends never die
R.I.P. Sir Michael Parkinson .. the best interviewer ever on TV
Ali was magic. Intelligent, witty and a role model for many people struggling.
and probably a better role model for many people who've "made it," i.e. he treated everyone equally, something that few if any "successful" people do.
He was unique....never be another Ali. RIP sir.
That lightning leg work is amazing.
I wish the title of this video was true for him :(
Ali is the best athlete ever and that’s it
''Man this is the wrong place to get tired''
Confidence, sharp wit and power encompassed in this man. Parkinson was right, he's a truly remarkable human being.
there would be no one like him ever in this world
Ali was so AMAZING!! So ahead of his time and handsome, too. He was one of the most intelligent men to ever live!! He was simply fantastic. Nobody but nobody surpassed him in kindness and class. Everybody's loved him,I'm sure he was an Angel,it so sad to look at🙏🙏♥️
Such an influential TV figure, who interviewed all the great movie era stars, and inspired so many journalists. You are missed already, Sir Michael.
Im so dumb when the title says wins over parkinson I thought it meant the disease I didnt know the guys name was parkinson.
LOL
Me too lol
+RAIDERS58th i'm 29 and Malaysian, i knew what the title actually meant. Parkinson was a great interviewer with easily the best temperament and a non-egoist.
Same bruh😂👌
So this is the guy who gives ali the greatest gift he got
Ali and Martin Luther King did more for black people than everyone else at that time.
+MrHEC381991 wow umm ok im pretty sure that is false.
what about malkom x
you don't know what your talking about
M. X
+MrHEC381991 Even MLK admitted he hearded his people into a burning building unknowingly. He changed his stance on things the last 6 months of his life and ended up DEAD.
RIP to the greatest
You can see a big difference in Ali here; even between the interviews.
So infectiously charismatic (if that makes sense?!)
There's no more great personalities like this man.
The shuffle at 4:03 is brilliant.
That Ali shuffle is a thing of beauty (4:02) nobody does it better.
THIS guy was and is the best
Once in a lifetime comes along someone special who inspires and who will never be forgoten and this man is it :-)
Rest in peace Champ, you will be missed.
one of the best videos on youtube!!
RIP to a wonderful human being. He inspired so many people, me included, and will continue to be a role model well beyond his passing. He had the courage of his convictions, a rare thing today. Enjoy the promise land.
3:03 This is the wrong place to get tired!
so sad .. what a man !!
I owe my life to Muhammad Ali since 1974 when I first heard him speak on the BBC Michael Parkinson show , and now I fight Parkinson’s disease in his honour.
totally genius in boxing. i love his words. his words like a diamond.
From Ireland. Sleep well champ!
Rip to both these legends
They both up there now having a laugh. Rip Paul❤️
greatest entertainer of all times,...
RIP Parkinson. Their next interview will be in the afterlife.
Great character!
What a lovely tribute. While it was created to shine a light on Mr. Ali, for sure the warm glow also envelopes and belongs to Mr. Parkinson.
He was A STAR!
The thing is on the first interview ali was thinking parky was trying to fuck him up and catch him out .. he realised parky is a good guy and a gem that would not speak a bad word of ali .. ali noticed that eventually and they spoke and listened to each other :D .. makes u look how good they got over problems of trust and becam friends eventually :D:D:D:D best presenter ever and best boxer / life strory host :D
much love for you sir. and i'm in tears
WE LOVE U ALI!!!!! May God Bless u Always & Forever, Ameen xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
how they bonded. a huge amount of mutral respect between the two of them. great stuff.
I'll put it like this. He was to boxing as what The Beatles were to music!
I disagree The Beatles arent that known in non white countries. Muhammad Ali is known all over the world even as a boxer
Thats more like it, glad you understand my point the right way
Ali was much more bigger than boxing than the Beatles were ever bigger than music.
but then my comment wouldn't make any sense and would be grammatically incorrect, mate.
read it again - slowly.
the greatest man ever, not the greatest boxer but the greatest man
I've always said that myself, if i could be any man that has ever lived it would be Muhammad Ali, i look up to him like a God. R.I.P Ali, I'll forever miss you.
stood his ground and had balls. very sad when he died
Bravo Muhammed Ali.
We have lost a hero today.
" if God ever calls me to a holy war, I want Joe Frazier fighting beside me." Muhammaf Ali.

RIP great man...
What can I say? Truly The Greatest to ever enter the ring.. The Lord of The Rings... Muhammad Ali
Ali was a brilliant fighter, very likely the smartest man who ever climbed into a boxing ring. He probably deliberately made sure he scored low.

Nobody on the planet would of got up from that Frazier left hook, and people say The Greatest never had a chin lmao!!
HE THOUGHT HE WAS A SMART ASS BUT HE DID NOT HAVE THE BRAINS TO KNOW WHEN TO QUIT.
+michael meredith -You idiot, nobody. Try and achieve a billionth of what this legend has achieved. you loser
Time passes fast. RIP to the greatest and sir Parkinson.
simply the greatest ever, MUHAMMAD ALI
The world missed you Ali!!!!!!!!!!
Ali is still alive to this...he is immortal.
Barbed wit with delikadeza. Very sharp man, Ali. What a tremendous human spirit.
"I interviewed (Ali) four times. I lost on every occasion." And therein lies the problem, i.e. it's an "interview" - not a competition!!
Yea, that "win'' shit makes no sense to me
What a beautifull man!
TRUE LEGEND!
Ali was so handsome in his day, truly the greatest and the prettiest lol

Alas, we will never know that. However, he made quite a big impact anyway.
