This is so cool! It looks so fun and rewarding holy shit I want to learn now. I love the inner sleeve idea, I haven't seen that before. But then again I know so very little about jewelry lol. I hope you make more videos. They're so fun to watch! Subbed!
Hello Mr Zalakos. My name is Rui and I'm attending to 9 month goldsmith class and I would like to know how this thing of making copper red (er) is all about. I tried a few days ago with some results but nothing close to yours. I would like to know (if you are willing to share some information) what is the water/borax ratio. I used a small ammount and did little. Thank you so much for sharing and hearing me out. BTW... Doing this process along with brass is a big mistake! This brass will NEVER shine the same way again... I'm doing some mixed pieces (copper and brass) but this time I'm going to pin the materials and not weld them so I can do this process without altering the brass patina. PS: I would appreciate if you would reply as soon as possible (if you don't mind to share this info). My class is about to end and I don't have much more time accessing the tools and the facilities and I would really love to try this process in a more effective way.
In the description is a instructables that goes a bit deeper into process. This is a technique that you'll have to practice to gain competency, you can re-heat and quench a piece without pickling it until you get results you're happy with.
@@Zalakos Well... There Isn't much in the description. But... My teacher tried again with better results. He dipped several times and he used room temperature water solution. But hey! Thanks for the reply and sharing! This technique has a lot to offer!
By heating the copper up to around 800 degrees Celsius and quenching in cold water, a somewhat consistent layer of copper oxide forms on the ring and makes it appear red. I can only encourage you to start making things, there are so many possibilities! Thanks for watching!
If you want to take up a craft that is easy to get into, search up epoxy resin crafts. You can start by using some premade molds and acrylic paint to dye the resin, but once you feel more comfortable you can combine it with woodworking to get some nice designs on tables and such. It looks good as an inlay on furniturr
I'm just getting into this type of shit, I was wondering if you could make a video where you talk through the steps, and tell us things to look out for and all that. The video is sick AF though!
Not just Water! It has borax in it!! Otherwise there won't be created a sort of crystalized coat that preserves (for a while - not forever) the reddish of the copper (that's how this technique is all about). If you use only water you'll get nothing!!!
When I first started, I spent $300. That price includes $100 shipping to get all the tools from America to Australia though, so it really is quite cheap for a hobby. I'd recommend checking out RioGrande.com if you're interested in silversmithing, and thanks for watching!
You lined it with silver to stop oxidation from getting on the hand? I made a mokume gane ring for my brother with copper and silver and the copper turns his finger green lol I rhodium coated the inside though to stop it from happening.
I’m a jeweler, you should SERIOUSLY not wear a glove when you use the polishing machine. If the glove gets caught on the wheel it’ll rip your hand off. Not to even mention your polisher has no hood and no ventilation... those compounds you’re using are toxic and you’re just breathing it in. Serious OSHA violations, you’re going to hurt yourself. Watching you polish the chain in your newest video gave me heart palpitations too, you had it wrapped around your hand! What the fuck are you thinking. Chains are extremely dangerous to polish, if that slips it’ll seriously fuck your hand up. Wrap the chain around a big wooden dowel and hold it tight against it, you have a lot more control on the machine and you’ll have much less risk of a career ending injury.
I'm so sad this is your only video! You, my friend, are an artist. Keep doing what you do!
Please make more videos, these are super satisfying to watch!

Hi! How exactly did you get the copper to turn red? Did you really just heat it red hot and dowse it in water?
Maybe boil borax in water.
@@Mahalarbknives wait so boiling borax in water and then dipping the ring in it when it's around 800 degrees celcius?
@@renzhammenga8619 yes, I use this solution. Just heat copper to cherry red and dipping in hot borax in water.
Your awesome man keep up good work
Damn, jewelry making seems pretty cool for a job

What you use to make the cooper red ?
What tortch do you use
No Way!! It's magic
Cool like to learn that
Why did the copper change colors like that? Man, this makes me want to pick up some sort of craft! Idk what though! Awesome video!

Where'd you get that music from?
I'm just getting into this type of shit, I was wondering if you could make a video where you talk through the steps, and tell us things to look out for and all that. The video is sick AF though!
That's only water?????
bring forth the ring, mr anderson
How much is this ring worth? Great Video
How did you learn those skills? Like who teached you?
and your finger turns green how fast?
He probably coated it in some kind of lacquer of he is smart, also the inside ring is silver. So not that much contact with the skin
that's a beautiful ring. It's so red you'd think it has been enameled.
Does the red color stay like that or does it change over time?
It will change over time. You can make it last longer with a coating or treatment but eventually it’ll get bits of green, and it will dull
What music did you use? I love it!
🖐🖑👀 so cute 😀
wonderful !!!
Nice ! Hope you will record new videos of jewellery ;-)
I like your vids make more
great vid but it would help me more if you talked us through what you did especially what you used to color the copper and how that works.
Noted! If you are interested in a more in depth explanation you can read more here: imgur.com/a/xVdQD
thank you that was much more helpful
Hej kan i buy it
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How do you make it red? Just heat and dunk in water?
Mark Villanueva Yes! It's a very simple oxidising technique that requires a bit of trial and error
Not just Water! It has borax in it!! Otherwise there won't be created a sort of crystalized coat that preserves (for a while - not forever) the reddish of the copper (that's how this technique is all about). If you use only water you'll get nothing!!!

how much to you think it would cost to get started in making rings?

Zalakos how did you get them ring to turn into red???
Zalakos can u make more videos
sick ring! who's the music?
The song is "Intimate" by KRUPA. You can find it here: soundcloud.com/prodkrupa/intimate Thanks for watching!
Found some good music to work to :)
You lined it with silver to stop oxidation from getting on the hand? I made a mokume gane ring for my brother with copper and silver and the copper turns his finger green lol I rhodium coated the inside though to stop it from happening.
How do you rhodium coat the inside?
what kind of sand did u use for this casting?
-DreamsLabx- Jewel Creators I used Delft clay, but any green sand is appropriate when good safety measures are taken
Could of just started with 22mm copper tubing from the plumbing shop 👍🏻 #shortcut
what's the blue stuff you use is it just some sort of wax? and that is a great ring do you have your own site?
Rodell Roberts Yes, it's a medium jewellers wax. Thank you so much! I still don't have a website at this point
Are you going to update any other videos?
I do have plans to produce some more videos, it will take some time though. Stick with me.
Aye aye ;)
Perfect. like
Make more vídeos please....
You anazing
Where did you purchase the silver strip to line the inside of the ring?
Any precious metal supply store will stock some thin silver sheet, here I used 0.2mm argentium
it doens't look like copper when finished, looks more like a stone.
But it is awesome, congratulations!
Hermoso
Wow
The showcase at the end is so minimal 1 second of focused camera on the item
Cuban chain brought me here
DO a vlog pls
Nice, id wear this to a bonfire sipping something hot!!

You know you can get that ring out of any bubble gum machine right
Can you make me a ring I’ll pay for it

The ring sells for about $49.99 and the cost to make the ring is about $52.99. Lol

Nice work, but use better music next time :D
Cool ring but jesus H christ $200 for a base metal?!
Why is there like, 70's porno style music to this?
If I saw that on the ground and picked it up I'd probably just throw it away again. It looks busted as fuck.
