😢 Now, its just a faded memory. I wish Reidsville would've saved this beautiful historical mansion and grounds. I have fond childhood memories of touring this place on school field trips.

Bet State wishes it hadn't sold this to the Phelps' now. Goodbye, Chinqua-Penn. You are missed. :(

I visited in 2001 before 9/11 . Simpler times. That day changed EVERYTHING everywhere. I miss those days.

I am so grateful that I was able to see Chinqua Penn and am grateful to Jeff and Betsy for the experience of the place. The trail is still quite a testament to them both although the tresure of the house and grounds was cashed out by the Phelps and their evil GREED!

This made me CRY! Why didn't the judge give it back to UNC? It was a treasure place and given to the state...never trust the government, and never trust people who only care about money!!!!!

So glad I had the opportunity to see Chinquapenn. in its glory. So sad to see it now. I fell in love with it too liked it better than Biltmore.

I don’t know why we can’t view the outside and walk around in the yard. The outside of the mansion is safe.

It is so heartbreaking to see this once grand place in ruins.....what will be the fate? Is it available for purchase? Anyone?

Its a shame that UNC mishandled the trust money that was left to them for the purpose of keeping this place alive, it should never have been sold to the Phelps in the first place..

Dan Almashy .....ahh, so that's what happened! I couldn't fathom Mrs Penn leaving the property without funds to manage it. That explains a lot. The university system continued to bungle up things with this choice of buyer. Everything was siezed by the IRS. I met some of the board members of the nonprofit managing the property. They had very little funding.....a shame! There were so many lovely things in the house, collected during the Penn's travels. I toured the house many times! They had a lovely group of tour guides to curate the story of the 1925 mansion. A huge loss thanks to mismanagement!

It was the UNC system. NC State was the university that used it.

This is significantly abbreviated from Episode 403 of the series. But the original segment on Chinqua Penn was about 12 minutes long. Could you please post that segment in it's entirety?

Look around you, see? You see this house? It's very cool in the summer. It's comfortable. I suggest that you move in, hmm? I think you'll be happy here. You could use my wardrobe.

A tragic loss of a beautiful home. I would rather some of the border wall money come to fix up Chinquapenn.

Donald Southern Yes!!! This place is so special, a work of art! So wonderful in it's architecture and decoration. I'm glad Mr. & Mrs. Penn got to enjoy it.

That is the most asinine comment I have heard. Please explain logically how funds for national security could have anything to do with a mismanaged property in North Carolina. Stop trying to insert your political viewpoint on everything. Nobody gives a rat's left testicle about your opinion on the border wall.
How about we divert some of the STATE'S funds that are pissed away by degenerates in Roseson county to worthy causes like this beautiful estate? That makes a hell of a lot more sense. Look at all the money we throw away there, and what has it gotten us? Nothing!
