Thank you my friends, I recorded it live with the orchestra, I wish I could do it again on the studio. It is my favorite concerto. My intention was to sound as close as possible to Timofei but, no body can touch Timofei!!! He is unique!!!

I understand now, maestro. I watched your masterclass in ITG 2016, you are definitely a grand master from trumpet. Best Regards from Brazil.

This recording, besides featuring your masterful playing, brings out many syncopations I don't hear in other performances. You also use a wide tonaI palette. Beautiful performance. I sense I am hearing very experienced musicians with this orchestra. They know both how to let things happen and how to make things happen.

I think his playing is great. His interpretation may not be so classic oriented but it has his own charm.

Indeed, he died during World War II and alas never performed the piece. Arturo is a phenomenal musician - one of the best to ever put a trumpet to his lips. It is beautiful version - not my first choice, perhaps - but beautiful nonetheless. Bravo, Maestro!

I love Arturo. Go find the Timofei Dokshitzer version , the complete one ... then you will know who Arturo listened to and who is the real master and who is the admirable student.

"Arutiunian’s trumpet concerto was his sixth major composition, written in 1950. Arutiunian originally intended to write it in 1943 for a student of Tabakov, Zsolak Vartasarian, who was the principal trumpet in the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra. However, Vartasarian died in the war and the concerto was not completed until 1950, so Aykaz Messlayan was the first performer of the Concerto and Timofei Dokschitzer was the first recording artist of this concerto."

In my opinion it's fun to compare different versions of the same piece. But there is no point "measuring" them against each other. I don't know much about Armenian music so I don't know how this should sound like in the "true Armenian" way. What I know that there is Dokschitzer's original and there are many other masterful renditions of the piece, including this one. The great thing with youtube is that you can go and find another one if you don't like this one. Arturo Sandoval, a true master of trumpet comes from a completely different musical background. And while you can hear how much he studied the piece you can also hear the Latin musician and the scream trumpet hero. This is his version.
You can go on and find Nakariakov the true Russian virtuoso. Or if you want to hear a "German" (in fact: Hungarian) rotary trumpet player to play it, you can find Gábor Tarkövi, principal trumpet of the Berlin Phil'
All of these versions and many others are...great. I don't know how Arutiunian felt about his work becoming an international classic. But I'm quite sure that he would be happy to hear it in so many different versions. You can recognize a true masterpiece when different performing artists find different layers, tones, moods, messages in the same piece. This is exactly what happens to this piece.

I find the banter and chatter on UA-cam amusing here. Comparing Timofei Dokshizer is foolish. I have listened to Dokshizer and continue to do so and agree his is the the version against which all others are measured. However, his rendition doesn't display the true Armenian flavor originally intended when the composer wrote it for Zsolak Vartasarian, whom I was never privileged to hear.

This is perhaps my favorite trumpet concertos of all time! Arturo sandoval, is also someone i idolise. However, somethings are not meant to be put together... Like ice cream and steak both amazing foods but a somewhat odd combination. I think if sandoval had perhaps had a more relaxed feel with the piece it would have gone better

It was still better than 99% of the trumpet world can play it. I await the posting of your video showing us how it should really go.

Alfredo - no insult intended. I am sure that Sandoval listened many times to Timo. The performance was a loving tribute but I do play the trumpet and I am not a pimple of Arturo's butt. BUT ! I can play the Aratunian this good.In my dreams I can play it like Timofei.

Kostas Tzouve lol, Obviously, he must be the only trumpet you know, he's good, but by far he's the best, wynton marsalis is better than him and by far.

    • @bd1845
      @bd1845 2 роки тому

@@alta1910 you may prefer wynton’s style and that’s fine but in strict terms of playing the trumpet Arturo has mastered it. Wynton is amazing but there is absolutely zero he has done that Arturo isn’t capable of. The opposite however is a different story.

Find the Timofei Dokshutzer recording of this here. Sandoval listened to him a lot - as well as any trumpet player should - but I LOVE Arturo and I Love Timo - Great analogy - Steak and Ice Cream ;) ! Perfect. Timofei had better concepts for this and more inherant beauty in the slow sections. Sandoval sounds stiff and a bit brash.

La cosa más importante de ser músico es expresarse. Cuando lo olvidamos nosotros, nos volvemos pretenciosos. Mil y uno trompetistas que no se puede distinguir no tienen valor.
The most important part about being a musician is expressing yourself. When we forget that, we get pretentious. A thousand and one trumpeters that you can't tell apart have no worth.

I love all the bunch of A-Holes on here doing cheap criticism. You don’t like his interpretation that’s fine. He makes the Arutunian sound so much more exciting than a load of other ‘classical’ players. In the meantime you all put up your versions of you playing it… no didn’t think you would because you’re not fit to carry Arturo’s trumpet case.
