I was thinking that myself i’ve got a 22 semi automatic ross I gave $125 for now. That is budget. and I’ve also got the henry 22 LR lever action I give $370 and if it came down to either one, they both shoot great they’re both accurate, but when it comes to quality Henry all day every day.

Round barrel is obviously faster due to the aerodynamic coefficient properties that Henry implemented. To make up for the Hexagonal barrel, they added an extra round, longer range due to longer barrel, and higher muzzle velocity. Yeah, that's it, that's what I'm going with.

How about the octagon barrel pump. Best I ever shot open site is my Rem Model 12C. Perfect sites. One inch square at 50 yards is not a challenge. Have a Weatherby semiauto w scope the girls shoot empty 22 hulls off posts at 25 meters. First time they outshot all the boy cousins, the moaning was unbelievable. Chuckle!!!
Todays biggest problem with .22's is the sights, pistols especially. The sight is ten times bigger than the target it would hit if the beads and rear sites were finer. How do you shoot a candle out w your pistol if your front bead would cover ten of them wide? Even the old super accurate Browning Nomad has a too wide front blade. I used to kill blue grouse w my single six, then an old guy handed me an old H & R and says kill that rabbit for me at 20 yards. I thought impossible till I lined up the sites. Fereaking magic!!!! One dead bunny first shot. Most people have no idea how accurate a .22 really is with the right sites. Sill looking for an old time 9 shot .22 shooter. Come on Henry take the challenge. I have one Henry already, the Eagle Scout Rifle, stunningly beautiful. Make me buy more!

Got my H001 because: it's a Henry; it's MiA; it's a lever gun. We keep rabbits and chickens, so my primary application for my Henry is for dispatching varmints (racoons, possums and squirrels). I love that it cycles S/L/LR, since I like to use quiet .22 ammo, so I have shorts, longs and CCI Quiet-22 as well as bulk standard velocity .22LR ammo, Mini-Mags, etc.

    Hi Dan &22Henry Plinkster,
I have a Henry H0001 with octagon barrel. Not the fancier Frontier model. But, that’s fine.
Just having the rifle that I do,
as it is, is pllllenty fancy for me. To my eye, the external beauty of “MY Henry” lies in its
first impression-first glance. In its super well-made best American, walnut stock. The octagon barrel is a nod and hat tip to Henry’s very rich history. The barrel, and the
    lever action, they proudly say
American. The fit and finish are supreme. The attention to detail, mated with the pride
of Henry’s American craftsmen as they build each
Henry rifle to its final magnificent creation.
That’s just the outside. Without going into a tear-down to talk about the inner mechanics, just trust me. They are accurate rifles! The lever action feels solid and substantial as it cycles its way through the cartridge pickup, battery, firing, and ejection of the spent cartridge.
These All-American, Hand-Made rifles are how America used to produce THE most firearms in the world.
When I hold MY Henry, I’m very pleased knowing these experts in their fields of expertise are STILL doing it the right way. The American Way!
(Wow! I just wrote out the 1st
Draft of what could be your
    next commercial. LOL❤️🇺🇸❤️)

My first Henry was the H001. I liked it so much that I ordered the fancy grained walnut stock. The forearm didn't fit, but I hesitated to ruin it with a chisel. I then bought a H001T and the fancy stock and forearm fit perfectly. Looking at Henry's website I noticed the Varmint Express .17 HMR rifle, with a round barrel. It had a high comb stock for a scope and both the buttstock and the forearm were checkered. I ordered those parts and they fit my H001 perfectly, with no fitting required.
I put a 3-9 scope on the H001, but thought the octagon barrelled H001 T deserved an older looking scope. I happened to have an old Bushnell Banner 4X scope with a 3/4" tube and a set of Redfield 3/4" rings for the dovetail grove. I am so happy with those two combinations and the fact that Henry had the stocks available.

I own 6 lever action Henry rifles, plus an AR-7. The only complaint I have is with the Golden Boy. I do not like the Cantilever scope base. If they offered a simple screw on base (like the 10/22 has) it would have been much better, and the scope could be mounted lower. Since I have both the engraved receiver cover and the standard one, I think I will attempt drilling and tapping the standard one first. There are plenty of screw on bases available for both the 3/8" dovetail and the Weaver rings.

I hope to spend range time w/ my grandson with it to get him engaged, but so far he is much more interested in fishing with me! I'll gladly enjoy time with him with either as both are Quality bonding time to cherish :) ! I sure do hope to spend time with him and this fine starter rifle & pass it along to him for memories. The Henry classic carbine starts at $378, the Frontier at $512 and while both are exceptionally well made, they can hardly be called budget friendly guns. However you could buy from Ruger a 10/22 carbine with Weaver 3x9 scope/rings, spare magazine and gun case for $399. Just $21 more than the Henry classic alone. That's budget value with a vengeance.

    • @arrlmember
      @arrlmember 4 роки тому +1

It depends on where you live. I used to have a 10/22 "Sporter" model with the walnut checkered stock. Then one day CA proposed legislation that would have declared all semiautos with detachable magazines to be "assault weapons." Feeling that I had to get rid of it while I could, I took it to a dealer and traded it in for a Henry H001. The next thing that happened was the bill was modified to exempt rimfires, then the governor vetoed the whole bill. Anyway I ended up with a Henry, and have purchased several more since then. Most of the 10/22's that I own now are made from 80% receivers. Another thing about the 10/22 is since it is the most popular and most customized .22 available, you can go broke with all the aftermarket parts that are available.
I would say that the Henry is better if you want to shoot it. The 80% 10/22 is great if you like to play with your lathe, mill, drill press, etc. Some folks prefer one activity, others prefer the other hobby.

    • @arrlmember

The lever action Henry's require the buttstock, receiver cover and bolt to be removed to be able to clean the bore from the chamber end. The Marlin 60 can ONLY be cleaned with a bore snake. After taking apart both my Marlin 60 and my Ruger 10/22 I purchased a jig to drill a hole in the back of the receiver of the 10/22 for a cleaning rod, but that does not appear to be possible for the M60. Bottom line: The Henry is the best.

If your Marlin was made within the past few years, it will have a useless crossbolt "safety" on it. That is the main reason that I now prefer the Henry to the Marlin. My Marlin 336 SC is so old, it is chambered for .219 Zipper. So you know that it doesn't have that useless piece of nonsense on it.

If you don't mind autoloaders, check out the Henry AR-7. It comes with two 8 round magazines and there is room in the stock for a third one. It comes with a 3/8" dovetail grove on the top of the receiver, but there is no place in the stock to store the scope. If you are OK with just the peep sight that comes on it, it will easily store in a backpack.
