    In regards to the interior color change, my father always says “don’t start no shit there won’t be no shit”. If you try to dye the dash and it turns out bad or you genuinely don’t like it you’re screwed and you’re going to have to pull it.

    I've never dyed a dash or panels, but my roommate does leather work and when he dyes things, man does the dye go quick. I say follow your heart and do what you think would make you most proud of your work. I would say try a small easily replaceable panel to dye first just to make sure it will take and not smear before diving into some of the bigger panels. much love man, got me 3 shirts too. keep up the great work and inspiration!

    Just pull the dash out and dye it. Its an extremely messy process no matter how clean you do it and you'll end up with a better product in the end. And most gm dashes are soooo easy to take out just a matter of a few bolts and putting the gear selector in neutral before disconnecting the battery, everything else just kinda pops out .

    I have a 2014 Silverado 1500 LTZ Z71. Had the same issue with the front drive and passenger seat heating elements not working. Pulled the driver seat and found two burnt spots on the top and bottom heating element pads. I'm willing to bet it's the same on the passenger side. Seems to be an issue with a lot of trucks around our model years. I found the driver side heating elements for about half as much on eBay. Did all of the work myself in about an hour for the driver side. Haven't tackled the passenger side yet due to needing a part for the wiring harness under the seat. But yeah, it was pretty easy. Good luck Dan!

    Hey Dan, on the topic of dying a dashboard, well, Ive never dyed one, but ive repaired and painted them in classics before. I can tell you that its really difficult to get an even coat that looks good with it inside the vehicle. it would make your life so much easier in the long run if you take the dash out of the vehicle, get that sucker in some proper lighting and go from there. Lighting is a must what going for perfection. Plus you will be able to take some pressurized air to everything under the dash and get all the debris out

    Man I’ve been following the dually build for a hot minute; have you thought about mounting some stealth subwoofers in the new center console you’ll be building? Fabricating one that goes between both sets of captains chairs should yield plenty of extra room; even with all the other goodies you talked about. But two 12’s maybe even a 15 - and with a truck cab having a small volume of air - that thing would thump. Love the videos bud, keep’m coming

    I work at a car audio shop in NORCAL and we do custom builds... anyways one guy paid us to redo his whole interior to black which included dying the dash. It was a pain and in my opinion was the cheap way over just getting it done right by redoing it or swapping dashes. We pulled out all the stops and made sure the dash was fully prepped and dried before we assembled anything and it came out looking good but some spots would get messed up and had to be redone especially where the panels meet the dash.

  • @antibodyarmy
    @antibodyarmy 3 роки тому

    Dan, pull the whole dash out when you go to dye it. and have a back up plan like flocking. Dyes on vinyl and plastic can be hard to take and typically when dying a plastic material you need to warm them up for the dye to penetrate. this gets worse if there is oils that got into the materials from use or spills leaving darker/lighter or undyed patches. so in the words of my dad when he and I worked on cars "don't half ass a whole ass job" remove that dash, because if there is a mistake or you dont like the dye, you will have it already pulled to do a paint or flock on it. It will take a couple more hours but could save you days of headaches.

    I have a 03 duramax, they are known for bad grounds. I had to add a ground from the main battery to the core support to the frame. Ac wouldn’t work, cts edge 3 would t work, all gauge would go crazy. Considering the amount of work you’ve done to the truck. Maybe it’s a loose or corroded ground. Maybe the engine to frame ground is bad, and for what ever reason even a a ground being corroded can cause intermittent issues. Maybe it’s worth a shot. Good luck brother love the content.

    ill be honest, that dashboard is 70 screws, and over 100 clips to fully disassemble everything, and about a 3hr job if we are legit taking it down to individual parts and pieces.... painters tape, plastic sheeting, and spray dye will do the job , and if it looks like ass a little after in some spots, get a sponge and shoe blackening dye for leather shoes and itll clean up nicely.

(Honestly wasn't a huge difference) but it was the control module for them. The harness where it connects to the module was melted. Bought the pigtail harness for $40 and the module for $130. Cut the old harness, soldered and shrink tube the new one on and bolted in the new module and everything was back in business. My first thought was also fuse, I was wrong.
