That layout is just beyond belief. The work it took to get to this point, is thousands of man hours. A beautiful layout. I know by first experience the work it takes to just get the rolling stock and engines up to speed, let alone the layout. My hats off to him. Thank you.
You are so right, Walter: Todd Treaster's layout and N-scale collection is almost beyond human comprehension. It left me speechless when I was there. ...Roy
Absolutely fantastic! THE biggest N scale layout I've ever seen. The level of detail is fantastic and it boosts the sense of realism you can get only with the magnificent scenery and the realistic length trains running. BRAVO!
Roy, I hope you've enjoyed your holiday. Thanks for taking us all on your visit to the layout. You have excellent narrative/presentation skills. It was a pleasure to sit back, relax and enjoy the video.
Thank you, Brian. That's very kind of you. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. It was a pleasure to put the video together, because the visit to Todd's layout was such an incredible experience. My Thanksgiving was wonderful, and I hope yours was, as well. Friends and family came over to the house to celebrate with us, as they do every year. ...Roy
I was lucky enough to visit Todd’s layout when I was on sabbatical at Penn State. I went on field trip with the Penn State Model Railroad Club to Todd’s house. He and his wife were very gracious. He even ran a Passenger Amtrak train for me. What a great guy and an absolutely fantastic layout. I shall never forget that experience.
I know exactly what you mean, Frank. Todd's layout left me speechless. He really is a great guy, as you say, and his wife is a wonderful person, too. I hope to get back someday to see Todd's layout again. ...Roy
loved the video!! amazing layout! i belonged to the duluth mn. railroad museum and model railroad club as a young man..helped me with designing my ho scale im building now... move over house furniture... im replicating d.m and i.r. iron range northern minnesota for a space of 40x 22... wish me luck... maybe someday i will also have an open house to show folks!
great video roy im glad you came up to lewistown. glad you enjoyed your self there. it is a great layout with a lot to digest on a first time visit. but that is what the hobby is all about great visits and inspiration.
Thanks, Jim. Putting this video together was a lot of fun, because visiting Todd's layout was such an awesome experience. I, too, am really glad I was able to come. The timing of Todd's open house coincided perfectly with my visit to my mother, who lives some 70 miles or so to the east of Todd's place. I've received a very nice e-mail from Todd in response to the video, and I look forward to seeing him and his layout again in the future. ...Roy
I'm thinking about getting into model railroads, particularly N-scale so that I can work with the scenery. This video certainly is inspiring- thank you for posting it. I think I might just jump in and give this a try.
Justin- started it 20 years ago on a dare... been involved ever since, been a great hobby along side of being a daily therapy!!! Haha, hope you enjoy it;)
Thanks, Bob. I agree. The visit to Todd's layout was like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, although I do hope to go back someday. For me, it was like my every model railroad dream come true. ...Roy
Wow, Todd's layout was incredible! What a treat it must of been for you to visit it, Roy! Thanks for sharing his layout here on UA-cam. -from Tom Pilling
Indeed it is, Tom. Visiting Todd's layout is one of the best things I've done as a model railroader. It was fun to share Todd's work because his layout is so impressive. ...Roy
So true, Randy. Todd's layout is every model railroader's dream come true. It left me feeling speechless when I was there, and even now, I find it hard to find words to adequately describe it. ...Roy
It is a great layout, David. I couldn't believe my eyes, even though I was standing right there looking at it. I hope to get back for a second visit someday soon. ...Roy
As a longtime O modeler and a resident of south-central Pennsylvania,... and as a NEWBIE N modeler myself, (beginning my first N layout currently in the planing stage),... I have watched at least 100 N layout videos on You-Tube, and without a doubt, THIS is the most insane thing I have ever seen,... and that is an understatement!!!
HI! It's great to hear from a fellow Pennsylvanian! (Even though I no longer live in Pennsylvania, I did grow up there, so it will always be home-home for me.) You are right about Todd's layout: it simply boggles the mind. It doesn't even seem to be possible. You have to see it, and even then it's difficult to believe. ...Roy
Thank you Roy. You would think working for NS he would have enough playing with real trains! LOL! But all joking aside, his layout reminded me of a couple times I saw like 40 NS GP38's lined up on a bridge crossing over the river near Harrisburg adjacent to the bridge I was traveling over. My new N layout is going to be nearly 85-95% rock terrain with plenty of trees, and right now I'm experimenting with banked curves for a scratch-built bullet train I have begun to create. Though IMHO a lot of his exceptionally crafted trees appeared taller in scale, the overall effect seems to work and looks utterly amazing!
Wow Roy what an impressive lay out I only hope that day to have that much room iand that much rollingstock and locomotives those handmade trees look fantastic again thanks for sharing
I hope someone makes a medicine that makes people live forever bc I want this man to never die I would do anything for this guys Channel such a positive a loving guy spreading the hobby of model railroading
The only thing to say about that layout tour in. . WOW! I'm still picking up my jaw from the floor. A beautiful Pike. And very impressive N scale collection. Beautiful. Thanks very much for this video. And Happy New Year!
Thanks, Jack. Todd's layout is indeed beautiful, as you say. In fact, I was struggling to find adjectives to describe Todd's layout, and this time, the English language seemed to fail me, because there aren't words adequate to describe the layout. ...Roy
100-200 car trains. IMPRESSIVE!!! He must have some pretty good trackwork. I know from experience. I had a layout with 4 mainlines that could handle 80-100 car trains. On my layout, I did such a good job on the track that one could completely leave the train room and come back in a hour to find the trains had not derailed or stalled out!!! First and only time I ever achieved that.
You’re a fun guy. Love the passion you have for your hobby. I look forward to my future years when I have a little more time to pursue as you have. Blessings.
hi there Roy i would just like to let the train community know that Todd has been collecting since he was 12 years old. his grandfather started him out with trains taking him to the standard steel witch is in his backyard. this is at least his 3rd layout of this type or large layout that i know of. he is an encyclopedia of knowledge when it comes to the hobby and also the prototypes. i hope he will write a book some day about his time in the hobby. i think it would be a good thing to bring young people into the hobby. i would also suggest that people look on you tube and enter nys&a and there is a couple of videos of the layout taken by other visitors. i have been a friend of his since i was a young man and he was my inspiration for doing my layout. you Roy are too. because like you i took a long break from trains to raise my family and tend to life in general and i am just in the last couple of years getting back to it. Todd was one man that would not let life get in the way of his trains. he and Becky always made it their lives along with Jess their daughter. great video for everyone to enjoy and for inspiration just like all of your videos. i encourage everyone who reads this to watch this video many times and all of Roys videos as well many times they have great information in them as well. thank you so much for sharing Roy cant wait for the next one.
Thanks for your very kind words, Jim. You are so right about Todd, his layout, and his collection. It's something everyone should see, even if only by way of UA-cam videos. I, too, would love see Todd write a book, as you suggested. That would be fantastic! He certainly is an inspiration for all of us. I look forward to visiting him again in the future. And it would be wonderful to see you again at the same time. ...Roy
Thanks, Rich. Todd's layout and his collection of locos and cars is just mind-boggling. It all seems to stretch as far as the eye can see. It was a lot of fun doing this video, because visiting Todd's layout was so much fun. ...Roy
So true, Mike. I'm glad you met Todd and Becky at the Pittsburgh convention. They are both wonderful people, very hospitable and gracious. I had a wonderful time at their home during the open house. I told Becky that they have a beautiful home, especially the train room (haha). ...Roy
Thanks for watching, Lance. It is the most amazing layout I have ever seen. I hope to go back and see it again. If I get to go back, I will naturally do more filming. ...Roy
Thanks so much, David. I genuinely appreciate your very kind words. As we know, model railroading is fun. But making videos about model railroading is also fun. I'm certainly having a lot of fun doing the scenery at Echo Canyon and sharing it with you. ...Roy
What a wonderful layout, as a Brit I have no idea how true to life this is but who cares. Loved the video. I had Ngauge as a kid about 45yrs ago shame I gave it up.
This guy has inspired me back in 2012 and today to go N scale as well and certainly for the fact that Im a Big Blue person, its gonna take time on my end to build something like his, Im looking to do both Ho and N scale, but we'll see what works.
Thanks for your comment, Manders. I suspect that Todd has influenced a lot of model railroaders. He certainly has inspired me and motivated me to get busier on my layout. I hope you will share the progress you are making on your HO and N scale layout with the rest of us. ...Roy
"Very nice" indeed! Dazzling is one of the many appropriate adjectives that seem to come to mind when thinking about Todd's layout and his incredible collection of diesels and rolling stock. The scenery is spectacular! ...Roy
One of the best things I have enjoyed in over 30 odd years of being in N Scale is making Great Friends and Good Mates all over the World. A excellent video once more Roy, a tribute to a sensational Layout that showcases N Scale to perfection.BUT!! I have a query for you all to ponder. None of us are getting any younger, I've just turned 70 and regarding myself I don't wish to leave my Margaret a big problem in the disposal of my Layout and Trains. Like most of us my N Scale Layout has got bigger as have my collection of Locos and Rolling Stock and while we never recoup our costs, our Partners would not know the first thing about disposal of our Collection and Layout. So what can we do ??. For me I'm trying to get my Layout ( 16' X 9' ) or ( 6.5 metres X 3 metres ) on 2 levels finished to what I have in mind, run it for a couple of years then sell the lot and maybe get enough to take my ever lovin' on a nice trip and when I fall off the Perch I'm not leaving behind a problem.Roy here's a nice juicy topic we can all relate to. Cheers from North Queensland, Australia. Denis.
You are so right, Denis. Making friends and sharing the hobby with them really is one of the best things about the hobby. I know what you mean about not getting any younger. I'm 71 myself and sometimes I feel like I'm getting older by the minute. Like you, I also worry about the layout and how much of a burden it might be for my wife, when my time comes. I really have no idea. I'm the only model railroader here in Panama (so far as I know), so there's no one to will it to. I guess for now, all we can do is continue to enjoy the hobby as long as we can. ...Roy
That is definitely one impressive N scale layout. That yard is huge, N scale beats all for overall size of trains you can run in a house basement or room.
I love that freight yard and seeing others work does help to inspire to continue building and getting ideas, however most of my ideas have come from real railroading.
Thanks so much. Todd's layout is mind-boggling. I look forward to going back to see it a second time. There's so much to it that I feel I may have missed during my first visit. ...Roy
Ok, someone tell Todd to get serious about this hobby....I mean, a measly 40 tracks wide and barely 52' long...Sheesh. Lol Awesome layout!!! Incredible work of love. Kudos Todd!!
Grew up living across the road from the Enola yards west end. Still live in Harrisburg and the inter modal yards of Industrial Rd and Rutherford keep expanding!
hey ,if anyone else wants to learn about how to build a model railway layout try Pycanta Model Railroaders Protocol (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my co-worker got great success with it.
"Holy smokes" indeed, Arlington. I don't think there's a word in the English language to adequate describe what Todd has done. Visiting his layout left me speechless. ...Roy
Actually, the old B&O station in Martinsburg, WVa holds the record for the oldest station in continuous use. I’d be willing to bet Lewistown isn’t far behind
Well, 300 locos and 1000 pieces of rolling stock is nothing to sneeze at. It sounds to me like you already have quite a collection, too. One of the nice things about Todd and his wife is that people always feel welcomed at their home. ...Roy
Thanks, Tim. Visiting Todd's layout was an incredible experience. For me, his layout is every model railroader's dream come true. Articles about his layout have appeared twice in "N Scale Magazine." ...Roy
That layout is just beyond belief. The work it took to get to this point, is thousands of man hours. A beautiful layout. I know by first experience the work it takes to just get the rolling stock and engines up to speed, let alone the layout. My hats off to him. Thank you.

It's a pleasure, Randy. And you are so right: Todd's Enola yard seems to stretch as far as the eye can see. ...Roy
Unbelievable layout! Almost makes me wanna cry, how many people can take their “job” home and make a hobby of it? Beautiful!!!

Loved the sound of the wheels as the first NS train passed the Lewistown depot! Todd's empire is threatening the UP for size.
No words can describe this work of art. I'm glad to have watched this video
Thanks for watching, Mike. I, too, have trouble finding words to adequately describe it. ...Roy
HOLY CRAP the first shot of that yard had me speechless. The day I can afford that much rolling stock is the day I know I've made it. Great video!

Wow, amazing layout and scenery. Now I know why half of the n scale stuff online says “out of stock”! 😉. Thanks for sharing Roy. - Steve
A pleasure, Steve. Thank you. I see what you mean by "out of stock." The entire inventory is at Todd's house. Haha! ...Roy
Yep, more selection than most hobby shops!

Haha! I know what you mean. Cats and model trains just go together naturally. ...Roy

I hear you, Ellery. Todd's layout is mind-boggling. I hope to go back to see it again soon. ...Roy
Wow. How do I get to Todd's house?
Excellent training. Cheers!
Ok, someone tell Todd to get serious about this hobby....I mean, a measly 40 tracks wide and barely 52' long...Sheesh. Lol
Awesome layout!!! Incredible work of love. Kudos Todd!!
Grew up living across the road from the Enola yards west end. Still live in Harrisburg and the inter modal yards of Industrial Rd and Rutherford keep expanding!
I sure wish I could give this very impressive layout 10,000 more likes!!!!
hey ,if anyone else wants to learn about how to build a model railway layout try Pycanta Model Railroaders Protocol (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my co-worker got great success with it.
Me, too, Skittles. Todd's layout certainly deserves those likes. ...Roy
AWESOME!!!!! Thank you for sharing and keep up the good work.
Totally awesome, as you say! It is a delight to be able to share something that is as spectacular as Todd's layout.
When I seen this just WOW
,awesome layout
one of the best ive ever seen
Looking forward to visiting for the first time this year!
I think you'll have a lot of fun. ...Roy
That was an incredible layout
Simply AWESOME! Thank you!
Awesome video thanks for sharing 😊 take care! Peace from Welland Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks so much for your very kind comment. I really appreciate it. ...Roy
Stunning layout
I'm gobsmacked how realistic that looks.... 👍👍
Thanks for posting this video. I bet you are glad you model the Wyoming area and don't have to make that many trees! LOL
So true. "Planting" sagebrush is a lot easier and cheaper than trees. ...Roy
I always like watching n scale running layouts and those using wye switching.
Massively impressive. If my layout were that big I'd have to live in the garage and the wife would kill me.
Great video. What a layout! Liked and subscribed!
Thanks for subscribing, my friend. Adding trackside details really does bring a layout scene to life, doesn't it?! ...Roy
Yes it does. And your videos have taught me a lot and give me inspiration for my layout.... Ben.
incredible layout. 50 foot long 40 track yard? wow.
That it is, Ted. Incredible! Even as I stood there looking at it right in front of me, it was hard to believe. ...Roy
Don't let the cat out in Todd's choo choo room :O
Fourteen hundred locos?!? Holy cow!
And that's a big yard, but it's full. Guess there's not much switching happening there.
16,000 cars and 1,400 locomotives? Holy smokes!
"Holy smokes" indeed, Arlington. I don't think there's a word in the English language to adequate describe what Todd has done. Visiting his layout left me speechless. ...Roy
That has to be about half a million dollars in equipment!!
It took me a while to pick my jaw up off the floor. Wow!
I know exactly what you mean, Bruce. When I visited Todd's layout, I was so awestruck that I could hardly speak. ...Roy
Wallet be like: And I fell into a burning ring of fire
Actually, the old B&O station in Martinsburg, WVa holds the record for the oldest station in continuous use. I’d be willing to bet Lewistown isn’t far behind
Good point! Thanks for sharing that information. ...Roy
I feel like a slacker. He has accomplished all that since 2004!
Totally amazing what he has done! ...Roy
Holy crap !!!! And here I only have about 300 locos and 1000 various rolling stock. Jeez... lol Nice job. Can I come over and play ??
Well, 300 locos and 1000 pieces of rolling stock is nothing to sneeze at. It sounds to me like you already have quite a collection, too. One of the nice things about Todd and his wife is that people always feel welcomed at their home. ...Roy
cool video, was just reading about this in my n scale magazine!
Thanks, Tim. Visiting Todd's layout was an incredible experience. For me, his layout is every model railroader's dream come true. Articles about his layout have appeared twice in "N Scale Magazine." ...Roy
WOW !!!! Where is Todd's place of work??
that is a massive layout. You might have to start building outside. liked the railfanning/ some of them engineers gave you a nice horn show.
WOW! AMAZING! Roy
It really is amazing! ...Roy
