Legend, the fact that you haven’t given up on this save just goes to show why you’re my favorite Total War UA-camr. In addition to your down to earth personality and great content, nothing about you is fake. You said you were gonna play all the saves that you feel are legitimate disasters, and you’re doing a hell of a job at it! Most of all, I’m glad you’re doing something you like to do. When you’re motivated, it makes your content a lot more enjoyable 👍🏻
At least the Yari Ashigarus are better than the Limitanei Borderguards, the Limitanei Borderguards can't even hold the line when in stationary testudo mode, while the Yari Ashigarus with melee buffs+Yari wall mode can even rout the warrior monks and samurais. Oda Yari Ashigaru are even better.
Come to think of it, Legend is like Oda Nobunaga - outnumbered 1 to 5 (or up to 10) with only a single province, he sniped Imagawa Yoshimoto at Okehazama and proceeded to conquer half of Japan.
Thats just impossible, you can try to shoot a single general (army with general only alive) by better archers than peasants and it will need like 10 or more volleys to kill him.
That first battle was just superbly played. I think you are becoming even better at this game with this new series. Also, that poor ninja on that boat, rip.
Is it just me or is Shogun 2 objectively the best most well rounded total war game? It's got a lot of flaws, but it's just so inviting and aesthetically pleasing that its actually fun to watch gameplay of (unlike most other total wars)
graphically speaking its easily the best, i particularly like how the arrows and missile work, they actually stick into armour and the dirt, the unit models get arrows in their limbs and writhe on the ground when wounded. The unit duelling animations are nice too, very thematic, something that the later games havent quite done as well.
Highly aesthetically pleasing, solid, clear in many ways. I think Attila rivals it look and feel, details, but some say Attila runs poorly (not for me).
At 47:22, that was a hard battle, this is why I always pick Naginata Samurai over Warrior Monks, because they are basically the same units except the Naginata Samurai are heavily armoured and more numerous than Warrior Monks, hence they have better chance of survival than Warrior Monks.
Lol. Naginata don't have the most overpowered unit ability, war cry. Single best one in the game. USUALLY a couple of monks do a whole army though, as warcry affects many units. Naginata are worse than say, armoured up monks, as they are so slow. That can be a big cost on the battlefield. Also, they don't do very much damage, so although they are tough, they can't even break ashigaru reliably, as their dps is too low. Size is both 160 men. But yeah, that melee attack 9 vs melee attack 14 is a BIG difference. monks have 15 morale over 10, 8 melee defence over 6 for naginata (even their armour does not ofset this, monks do better in combat full stop) naginata are better at killing horses but MONKS can intercept cavalry, naginata are too slow. (not even uesugi) The disadvantage of course is it needs more micro, avoiding arrows & using ability, and it costs more, but really, they are super worth it. Try monks again, but make better use of warcry, have wide lines and use it on impact to see the enemy crumble and lose half their men. if you are bad at protecting against missiles, use blacksmiths or armoury or something, or hide in trees and ambush, reducing missile casualties. With high morale, you can afford thin lines, which also reduces missile and gunpowder casualties, and maximises dps and morale damage on the enemy. Naginata are my favourite unit probably, certainly more than warrior monks.... But they sooo aren't better. Did a few test runs, just nagi vs monk monk wins with 70 units remaining, they break and all die (don't even manage to run as they are too slow to avoid combat) before even the war cry runs out! took seconds. Used oda so no combat bonuses. general was last man to die. Redid the tests with full xp,as i thought that this would ofset the monks better melee defence, by making them more average. What actually happened is it make naginata armour even more irrelevant and monks won with 78 men remaining. I did more tests without using warcry, (basic units again) and monks win with 37 men left. One of the biggest factors I found that might make a difference, is that naginata seem to get tired faster. they are both heavy infantry though, so that might just be because they were loosing. In terms of naginata - they are better in one area, and that is siege assaults... where warcry isn't very useful and archer fire is hard to avoid, at least it is a problem if you are taking the walls intact. So bear that in mind.
"These ships are wasting money, lets disband them" Thats good, don- wait, theres an agent! Oh, I guess he doesnt think he needs one. * Goes to settlement, and recruits a ninja on the island, with no ships left* "Oh, ninja, theyre good"

A few tips for you regarding shogun 2. Use shift+ mouse right click to queue baiting unit ( must be cavalry , infantry will get outran by other infantry simply due to the unit charging mechanic when nearing their attack target; unit charging animation provides higher speed than normal running). Infantry cannot outrun walking cavalry ( just keep a distance between them that could not trigger infantry charging animation; However a walking cavalry in forest will get outrun by running infantry, therefore remember to click run on your cavalry and resume walk after exiting forest), in this way, your baiting unit won't get tired(almost always fresh because walking restore fatigue) even kitting enemy for whole map. If you want to kite enemy with cavalry, make sure enemy army has only 1 cavalry unit. If there are more than 1 unit, put yari unit in forest near the corner of map, all enemy cavalry units (except for general unit) will charge toward your only visible baiting cavalry , lure them into your yari ambush , clean enemy's whole squads of cavalry and kite the whole unit indefinitely. As for location for yari ambush, make sure you lure enemy main army toward opposite direction of your yari ambush and run toward your yari ambush once u you see enemy cavalry starting to separate from main bulk, this is to provide enough time for your yari ambush unit to kill off enemy cavalry and still has time to reconceal themself or simply withdraw from battle to avoid unnecessary units wipe.
Well sometimes life gives you lemons and you BEHEAD ALL DISHONOURABLE ENEMIES FOR THE EMEPERORRRRRRRRR Or you know make legend juice If your *that* kinda guy
Love this game cuz you can just win battles with so little units against stacks of armies I love those kind of battles since you really need to focus where to attack
Defense is how you beat Shogun 2. Archers are op and attackers can lose anywhere from like 1/6 to 1/2 of a unit's strength just from climbing depending on how tall the wall is they're climbing. Still to date one of the only total war campaigns I could beat on highest difficulty lol. Turtle and build up!
The unit quality also affects the losses they take. Ashigaru loose a lot. Samurai and monks loose some. ninja loose none and go up super fast. Hattoris units all have kisho training making them far better at climbing.
a few pointers; any units on the top-most portion of the castle on defense are unbreakable. yari ash in yari wall will beat any other melee unit and often can handle 10:1 units solo in a choke point. fatigue is crazy important for unit stats and moral, it's the main reason why a well rested yari wall will roflestomp all over a tired or exhausted samurai unit. in general it's far better to walk than run in shogun 2 to avoid fatigue buildup and even recover fatigue while walking.
I remember beating entire fleets of heavy bune with a single matchlock kobaya. As you have higher speed as well as slightly higher range making it possible to have won that naval battle with enough persistence.
