Wow. Wonderful job. What you did in the first turn alone was amazing, snatching a victory from the jaws of defeat. Glad you decided to turn this into a two parter; really enjoyed watching. Thanks for sharing.
1 minute into the video, and I am thinking to myself, holy shit, this is impossible. I look forward to seeing the entire video. Really loving these series Legend, I just hope you enjoy making them, because just by waching I am in utter dismay, I feel overwhelmed and hopeless, but if anyone can do it, it is you!
Legend is so good at Total War, that the times he makes mistakes actually stand out and make me grin. I'm not sure whether this is schadenfreude or something else. Keep up the good work though.
I didn't know you can surrender in battle :O Game changer! Thanks for this series, I have actually learned quite a bit from watching you tackle this challenging scenarios. Legend!
I've been trying to complete at least 1 hard campaign, but it's always a failure of hindsight on my part that leads me to my own failure. but watching you has helped me identify problems and how to tackle them more efficiently.
That's not a problem unique to Shogun 2 though, but the series as whole unless you play the games in chunks rather than binges. And I'm not saying it's the best ever, but the best *overall* as in, it does the least wrong. Like, some people might love Napoleon/Empire because it's probably the most complex campaign map, or love the strong faction and unit diversity of Warhammer, but each of those TW games also have major flaws. But Shogun 2 has very very few flaws, even if it's not really all that exceptional in any one area (in SP, because the area where Shogun 2 excelled was in MP, with the best online MP progression system in the series with the avatar mode).
I've played TW games my entire life. I also watched hundreds of hours of competitive online battles. I'm pretty confident when I say you've earned your name. This is my first time to your channel, but I'm excited to see what you've got coming.
Thank you UA-cam, for sugesting this video even though I never watch vids on this game anymore. I love the concept of saving the safe files :) Never heard of you before but count me in on this journey!
I just love defensive battles. In Empire i once had 4 East India Company line infantry hold of a double stack Maharaja army with elephants. Only a hill to defend from.
0:20 Me: He is fine he is the Chosokabe just reign downs arrows from up on your walls. 1:36 Army is made up of almost only melee units Me: Oh you poor sweet illiterate child...
Don't ignore the ashikaga, i once took all the surrounding territories except one and the next turn, the territory was owned by the ashikaga. I was so confused but i think it can happen every once in a while
watching was relieving to be honest. I always wanted to be cornered like that in any total war games but ai was too bad to do that :'(. Also I loved the video and subscribed :D
It is a strategy game. The goal of strategy is to attack the enemy's strategy. The enemy's strategy is formulated by the AI, it is not our fault that the AI is dumb. Military history is full of trickery, that is one of the main ways military geniuses win. If you were not allowed to trick the enemy then it would hardly be a very functioning game. Of course, we would want the AI to be more intelligent, but it is what it is. But still, in real military history, units do not have the same kind of overview of the battlefield and therefore get rather easily tricked when contrasted to what one might think from the comfort of an armchair. You sort of get an unfair sense of control in Total War. Just look at the kind of tactics Admiral Yi used, they are very similar to Shogun 2 bait tactics lol.
0:26 in the video..... and i think. "By Grace of Amateratsu....... Someone done fucked up and badly" But i believe in you the owner of this save file... Every failure is a lesson taught Every victory is the road to mastery... Fight on!!!!! No rest until you are the master of japan... in-game
In that first battle the second army sent for their general. You could have killed him too. He had a lot of stars and would have greatly demoralized their army.
Wtf just realized I need to learn more about this game... 8 campaigns under my belt did not realize I can burn archer towers so they are not turned against the defense
calin razvan You can turn them off luckily, but I agree. I’ll find it fun for maybe a few battles, but it’s not my niche. Especially if I’m playing out a campaign
Well 3K has two campaigns, a realistic one where the heroes are just generals/spies etc and the one where the heroes can take down hundreds of units alone
The thing with nodachi is that they are shock troopers, not unlike the falxmen of Rome Total war. Excellent at flanking, but garbage at defence and armour. Leaving them in prolonged melee is suicide.
It's not a "start", this is post real divide. In Shogun 2 once you reach a certain level of power, usually about 40% of Japan's provinces or so, real divide happens and every surviving clan declares war on you for the remainder of the game. If you aren't prepared or it's your first campaign and you don't even know it exists, it can be quite brutal.
It's "realm" divide, not "real" divide, and that's not exactly accurate. What occurs is that in Realm divide you get what amounts to a diplomacy debuff with a high growth rate, so that eventually, yes, everyone will declare war on you and ally with each other. BUT, if you're doing really well economically, have that Chi art that buffs up your diplomacy by 10 (and are Tokugawa for an extra 5 as an option), have an honorable Daimyo, and some long standing trade treaties, and can get a few clan marriages, you can mitigate the effects of the debuff with one or maybe two clans for a good long time, since the actual mechanical element is just that diplo debuff. Long enough to take Kyoto and hold it for the year you need to win the game anyway. At least if you've done a good job at least one good alliance with a powerful clan.
Sometimes even on lower difficulties the ai can go ape-shit and kick the crap out of everything, it happens a lot in shogun..shogun works in misterious ways
U just get campaign fatigue if you dont mix it up and u all have been doing it 4 years and we want you to be happy in your content at the end of the day
Seeing the siege designs i just cant stop to feel like they didnt do it properly. I've never seen a japanese castle built that way (that simply, its usually a lot of killing fields and awkward turns to make sieges as costly as possible). And i've even studied detailed reconstructions of japanese buildings and castles (EDO castle in the edo history museum in tokyo).
when we pick the game up it's the year 1574. the game starts in 1545, and obviously this player has been getting his ass beaten for a few years already. i think the player probably expanded too quickly and aggressively without taking the time to build up infrastructure and appease the populace. when the realm divided, his population probably turned on him in the first few turns, and his armies took a lot of losses trying to quell the rebellions. that allowed enemy armies to take territory and cut his already thin resources to their breaking point. everything just kinda... fell apart.
So essentially every game of Total War I play because I like the idea, but can't seem to grasp the concept of how to play the game. I'm good at A lot of other RTSs, but this one just eludes me.
How come when melee are climbing your wall you're not putting melee in the wall to answer them? You know they're *extremely* effective at that? Like 4x more. You'd have routed a few units with no losses. Also, use the pause feature. It's not less entertaining to use it. Also, there's no reason not to have 5 units gang up on one enemy unit if you have them, like near the end of the first battle. Placing more fatigued or demoralized units further back in the queue to engage. You will guaranteed lose less units by doing so.
