a true apprenticeship shouldn't cost a dime. lots of ego towards street artists trying to learn the trade. sadly the bad apples stand out making it a problem for street artists that actually have talent.
My problem right now to, I think it’s best to personally learn yourself and practice on people who trust you as much as you trust that machine is gonna get the job done and looking good. I’ve been tattooing now for almost 3 months. My dad, and my 3 other brothers are satisfied with the tatts I gave them, people around me notice the work I do on my dad because he lets me tatt him the most and I post on my Instagram but now I get a lot of recognition from old friends and co workers. Your work will speak for itself obviously but never give up. You got this! 🙏🏼🔥🤘🏼
Hey man, I got an apprenticeship when I was 18. My mentor supplied me with everything. Him and the other artist helped me learn to tattoo. Someone who knows what they’re doing and really appreciates the trade will want to pass it along. I checked out the shop, I showed my art…and I kept coming back.
@@NarcisoCuellaramen! I did the exact same thing! Learned in April and now I got clients left and right coming to me cause I’m the ONLY local artist out here in my area
Ugh, living this at the moment, I’m on year two of apprenticeship and it feels like I’m drowning while trying to raise a child as a single mother and learn this skill. I will keep pushing through.
There's even struggles when you are tattooing such as getting in a comfortable shop with no egos, getting a regular client base, getting your pricing right, getting the pieces you want to do to build portfolio, getting people who can sit for tattoos that take hours. Its a million miles away from drawing and painting so many other factors that affect everything.
I just started my apprenticeship going on a month ago now. And I'm starting to find it difficult to manage my time properly. Trying to continue my jobs so I can pay my bills pay for supplies etc. And also putting in ample time in the shop. Also practice time etc. Hopefully I get to a point where I can balance it all.
Imagine my incredible good fortune. I have a back tattoo of the Indian chiefs who led the trail of tears. Done from a photograph. He taped it to the wall and went to work. Zero drawing, and it’s a masterpiece. Genius in Thailand. Had been a monk but fell in love.
Makes me feel blessed that I have family that tattoos and my nephews dad owns a shop so I got in just by asking he’s a really great guy too so apprenticing there has been nice the only thing is finding time and affording my equipment
I know this is an older post, but I was told by my mentor that I need to speed up my work. My focus is fine line and detail. Is being fast really more important?
@@Tattooing101 that’s exactly how I feel about it. I am going to continue to work with what brings the best results to my client and my specifications. Thank you for the encouragement and reply!
I'm frustrated as fux I can draw and my tattoos off3nd me ! My lines are surgical on paper and I'm just angry with my lines tattooing. It just won't look as clean as a drafting mechanical pencil. 😡 that shde cheat with a lead smear 😂
I can tattoo i am learning to draw cause i choose to but i can tattoo like a monster . I am all about learning yourself and being self taught fuck this other shit i find it funny i am a 1 percent biker and these tattoist think you are join a motorcycle club we go through a prospect period. I would say f these guys that are so called gate keepers . If you can tattoo the technical side . You can learn as you go if you want to know how to draw great . But its not nesisery with all the tech these days its really not totally nesisery to get in there and make money. If i walk into a tattoo studio they sit me down and say go ahead and show me and you do it well you have a job . It really just gets my ass i grew up in tattoo parlors. You see the title parlor. Stop thinking artist is make me nuts those are not the people who created this industry and that is getting lost to these "artist"😢 . I am a tattooist. If you can put a stencil on there and know how to do all the shading and lining perfectly👍 if your a shit tattooer thats a different situation. I personally would say do your own thing all the ones who do this make it. I suggest tattooing friends and family open a shop out of your home . I have a legit tattoo studio out of my home . If you are having issue drawing draw a grid and do it that way very esay.
My biggest hurdle right now is figuring out how I'm gonna pay for my shit if I start apprenticing.
Sammmme. How do people afford the apprentiship 😳 I don’t know how to get past that hurdle

Can you do a video on getting into a studio after self-teaching
Getting the right equipment
Makes me feel blessed that I have family that tattoos and my nephews dad owns a shop so I got in just by asking he’s a really great guy too so apprenticing there has been nice the only thing is finding time and affording my equipment
I have been drawing for years. I just can't do like portraits or anything. With a stintu I should be able to. With practice of course
Since I am learning from your channel does that make me your apprentice
Is it easier to become a tattoo artist when for example I’m a studio artist that graduated college? Is the transition easier, faster?
You are perfect man
