  • When Kander and Ebb’s CABARET opened on Broadway on this day 55 years ago (November 20 1966), it was a Big Spectacular Broadway Musical. In 1993, Sam Mendes and the Donmar Warehouse revised and reduced the Broadway Musical into a Fringe Musical. The main casualty of the revised version was Clifford Bradshaw’s song WHY SHOULD I WAKE UP? and several other songs. In celebration and appreciation of the Original Version of CABARET, we present Gregg Edelman, singing with Maria Friedman performing the lovely song as recorded for JAY’s 2CDs Complete Recording of CABARET.
