You visited Dordrecht on a most perfect day. Thank you for this episode.
I'm from Dordt. My favourite thing to do in musea all over the world: find paintings of Dordrecht by Albert Cuyp. Chicago, St Louis, Zurich, London all have one.
I had an uncle (ome Leendert) living in Dordt, he always said, "hoe dichter bij Dordt, hoe rotter het wordt." The closer to Dordt the shithier it gets.. Welcome to Dordrecht, my hometown! I hope you enjoy your stay. A few tips from a local: Nobels bakery on the Grotekerksbuurt is really great. Restaurant La Bohème on the Steegoversloot and Bistro Twee33 on the Wijnstraat are definitely recommended. Villa Augustus is a nice place to stay. Inn kop van 't land is a great and beautifully situated vegetarian restaurant. If you like fish, you have to go to De Strooper. The Movies is a nice cinema that will reopen this summer after a renovation. Have fun!
So nice to see you have landed in your new home. What a great looking place. Looking forward to seeing more. Yes you nailed it, one of the things that really appeals about NL is the outdoor living. Walkability / cycleability just make going out for an errand or a cup of coffee so enjoyable. Congrats!

Hope you have a great time living in Dordrecht. I lived in Oud-Krispijn for a couple of years. Nice city to live. There is a famous saying about Dordrecht that contradicts this though; ' Hoe dichter bij Dordt, Hoe rotter het wordt'. Which basically means: The closer you get to Dordrecht, the shittier it gets. But that is for you to find out I guess. The Education museum and Dordrechts Museum are both worth a visit. Tip for Alex: Natural Park the Biesbosch is almost on your doorstep if you are ever in need of spotting a beaver...This is the place for you. Have fun!
Love seeing all your videos on different towns. I lived in Haarlem for 3 years a decade ago, unfortunately had to go back to Australia but looks like the wife and I will be moving back to the Netherlands in 2025. We can't wait and we're looking to make it permanent this time, Netherlands always felt more like home than any other place I have been.
Good to see that you enjoy my city Dordrecht. Have fun living there❤🤍❤ I,m a real Schapenkop. That means Sheaphead. I,m grateful that I grew up in Dordrecht.
"This mural has no title and no explanation." There will be no explanation, there will be just r̶e̶p̶u̶t̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ mural. 😂 This city looks lovely! Perfect for a day trip.
Dordrecht is a lovely city, hope you will be happy there…and great you have found the brokking hazelnootschuim (hazelnut meringue)…..that is really good, glutenfree and indeed sweet luckily I can buy them here too (in Ridderkerk)
Please go in Dordrecht to the bakery Van der Sterre and order some Appelmarijnen or Framboas gebak👍 Also great to visit Villa Augustus and go to the Biesboschcentrum for canoeing in the creeks😀👍
Enjoy Dordrecht! This weekend is Wantij Festival and the entire summer there are weekly(?) Palm Parties, check out the dates for some outdoor summer nights!
For that kind of pastry you can wake me. My granny always got me one, she had assorted pastry on her birthday so people can choose and that one she kept away for other guests until I came. It was mine!
Hi, nice to see your new home town. In de harbour you can find the motorboat VB002, or De Vloggende Bestemming, owned by Kees (I saw it the background of one of your shots). He was a professional cameraman, but during COVID he decided to move on to a motorboat and start a YT channel. He does films on nice places in The Netherlands and other trips, sometimes together with his father, and always with his dog Chico. I think his videos could help you in learning Dutch and more about your new surroundings.
hi guys, great video, here is a tip. on the first sunday of july, there is a large great book market. a few miles long throu-out the historal city center. congrats on your move.
So you moved from Rotterdam (where I live) to Dordrecht (where I lived twice during the 90's). Have a great life there! My former house is on the Voorstraat, what claims to be the longest shopping street in the Netherlands. Our house was right under the monumental ancient landmark church. Can you imagine the first nights, when it bangs it church bells twelve times!? Eventually one gets used to it, but it was quite exceptional to have that huge alarm clock, bigger than the house we lived in. Dordrecht is quite nice. The inhabitants tend to be different to people from Rotterdam, nicknamed „sheep heads" since at times they can be pretty aloof. Dordrecht is close to Rotterdam but also the Belgian city Amsterdam. The train tracks connect Amsterdam to Brussels, the most busiest track of the Netherlands, the reason why the train tunnel in Rotterdam was built in the 90's. Seeing your video brings back memories....
Congrats with your new home Michelle & Alex, lets us know when you both start a housewarming party (just kidding) 😉 Dordrecht is a nice city... used to go there in my younger days for drinking beers and listen to good music in Het Dolhuys and De Tol. The building Het Dolhuys was a first an monastery and later on an insane asylum in the Middle Ages (around the year 1500) Later on the years 1960's/ 1970's it went into a discotheek/bar. There is or was in Dordrecht also a very good Mexican restaurant on the Houttuinen, near by the Dom, named Pablos Cantina. I have no idea or its still there but if it is give it a try its very good and they serve authentic Mexican food. 👍Looking forward for the next video of you both, keep up the good work ! Take care ❤
Welcome to my beautiful city! I don't know you, but UA-cam recommended me this video and of course I couldn't help myself and had to watch it :) My girlfriend just recently moved here as well and really enjoys Dordrecht too ^^ her only complaint is that there is no Zara! oh and no Starbucks...
I am glad you accepted the advice of so many Dutchies to move out of R'dam, and what a nice timing to move just before the 'Zomer begint' (Summer begins) I can see an episode of renting a boat and have a trip on the water, trust me it will blow your minds at how different everything is watching it from the water. We like to put out a small net with soda/beer in the water, it will cool down and you can enjoy a refreshing cool drink when you are ready for it!
My mother's family was from Dordrecht so we visited the city very often when I was a kid. Her family lived in a beautiful, very big, 1850's era house and because my grandparents hadn't moved after their kids moved out, I also have some fond memories of this mysterious place. Most vivid are the memories of the big attic with a swing set hanging from the beams and a shitload of old machinery and electronics. My grandpa died when I was 8 and my grandmother sold the house to live in an elderly home. Still in Dordrecht though, so we kept visiting the city for quite a few more years.
@@buncharted Warmond (near Leiden). I’ve lived in or near Leiden since I was about 13 so I consider it my hometown. Warmond is a surprisingly pristine little village right next to Leiden.
9:16 This is what we call an Steeg (alley) a road that is not intended for cars or bicycles, sometimes it is also called a Brandgang as an emergency exit in the event of a fire but also as a drain during heavy rainfall to drain the backyards.
the mural wasn't a goat but a sheep , it's a reference to the nickname of people from Dordrecht , called Sheepsheads. there are several variaties to the story but this is the one in the archives. in the old days Dordrecht had a very heavy tax system for goods coming in to the city and people tied to evade it as much as they could. at one time some people bought a sheep and wanted to take it into the city without paying tax. they dressed up the sheep like a little boy and , walking on it's hind legs , dried to smuggle it into the city. the guards at the city gates had a dog with then that wasn't fooled by the disguise and the smugglers where caught. that was the basis of the nickname of the inhabitants of our great city.
If you have some time, consider visiting Gouda, which isn't too far away. In fact, it's about the same distance as your recent move to Dordrecht. There, you can marvel at our beautiful city hall situated right in the middle of the market square. Every Thursday, there's a cheese market where they demonstrate how cheese was traded in the past. There's also music and other activities to enjoy.
Yeah, I love Brokking, famous here in the neighbourhood (I live in one of the places across the river. Enjoy your new life here, great things to do here. And visit the Big Rivers Festival in july. Looking forward to more videos 😀
the city of doodrecht will pretty much be filled with various festivals and events, just go and check them out. i do know that the big rivers blues festival is coming up, the city carnival and several other great events, just go and check them out.
Oh, fu@# you're right. Somehow that didn't sound completely 'right'. Just keep practicing to get rid of the hesitation... you'll get there eventually 😂🎉
"stadslandbouwkas de oude Beer", is a nice place in Dordrecht, where you can get various hot peppers, when they're ripe enough, because it's a greenhouse kept by nonprofit volunteers. Rijksstraatweg 108 , Woensdag van 9.00 -11.00 en zaterdags van 9.00-11.00 uur ... also, rent a boat or canoe & get into the Dutch Jungle,(Biesbosch) a swamp/marsh/mangrove with spooky mysterious trees....
Enjoy your stay in beautiful Dordrecht! I am usually not so patriotic (like many Americans 😜), but I think Dutch cities are generally the most charming and gorgeous in the world. If it is Amersfoort, Utrecht, Zutphen, Leiden, Delft, 's-Hertogenbosch (where I live), etc. etc. no matter where you find your home, the stay will be wonderful.
Love your videos. One small item: Porchetta is pronounced with a hard "k" - in Italian, an "e" or an "i" following a "c" makes it a soft sound, OR it has to have the "h" inserted to make it hard. Think "chianti" vs "cello." Anyway, enjoying your content, and excited by your recent move.
What a great job you did with your city tour, guys. I'm impressed and would like to see more of Dordrecht now than it just being a train stopover. But exnay on the wifey slam to adorable Michelle, who very well could reply: “I’m an acquired taste. If you don’t like me, acquire some taste.” 😉
Another nice place to visit is the Mercurius observatory. Come on a sunny day to look at the sun through our telescope. And when you are there also visit the visitor center De Biesbosch.
@@buncharted The city itself is not too big but it's a former industrial city that has embraced it's urban vibe really well. It's more of a 'you love it or hate it' place but very different from other cities in NL.
In general a cheese shop is called "een kaasboer", just like a vegetable and fruit shop is called "een groenteboer" (or maybe groentenboer in modern spelling)
multiple kaashandel? Kaashandel is cheese trade but also cheese shop/stall, so I guess it would boil down to meerdere kaashandels. Dordrecht is especially well-known for the Statenbijbel, the first translation of the bible into Dutch, ratified by the (protestant) synode. Had an immense influence on the Dutch language.
There is a huge difference (and not only in the Netherlands) between an old Catholic Church and an Old-Catholic Church. In the 19th century, starting in Belgium, the Old-Catholics kept their catholic faith, but denied the existence of the Catholic hierarchy, including the Pope. Catholism for them was a individual religion, not a worldly power.
I lived in Dordrecht, my most favorite city to shop for antiques. Most cities all have the same kind of stores, but Dordrecht is more versatile. I also love huis van Gijn. And what do you think of the hospitality of Dutch people? And making friends?
Welcome in our beautiful city. If you are fast you still can enjoy the best horse saucage they make in the Spuistraat. lol They close forever n september.
Dordrecht is such an underrated city in the Netherlands.

Dordrecht is also historically significant: during the Spanish occupation, the city held a (secret) meeting in Dordrecht, called the Eerste Vrije Statenvergadering (first free state meeting). 9:16 This is what we call an Steeg (alley) a road that is not intended for cars or bicycles, sometimes it is also called a Brandgang as an emergency exit in the event of a fire but also as a drain during heavy rainfall to drain the backyards.
Brandgangen were created to prevent fires from extending to the whole city.
Congrats on finding a more suitable place to live. As a person born in Rotterdam, Dordt is off, but you show how great it actually is.
the mural wasn't a goat but a sheep , it's a reference to the nickname of people from Dordrecht , called Sheepsheads. there are several variaties to the story but this is the one in the archives. in the old days Dordrecht had a very heavy tax system for goods coming in to the city and people tied to evade it as much as they could. at one time some people bought a sheep and wanted to take it into the city without paying tax. they dressed up the sheep like a little boy and , walking on it's hind legs , dried to smuggle it into the city. the guards at the city gates had a dog with then that wasn't fooled by the disguise and the smugglers where caught. that was the basis of the nickname of the inhabitants of our great city.
So happy for you that you have found your place in The Netherlands! For now at least. Enjoy it to the max!

Enjoy your new life in Dordrecht! A very charming place.
Veel geluk in jullie nieuwe woning ❤ Greetings from the east side of the biesbosch
Dordrecht is great. Oldest city of North and South Holland. I have been living for 40 years here now.
Congrats bunfam❤
Congratulation on the move! What a scenic town and congrats on a successful jalapeno quest.
Oh, fu@# you're right. Somehow that didn't sound completely 'right'. Just keep practicing to get rid of the hesitation... you'll get there eventually 😂🎉
as a Dordtenaar i say welcome to our Great city..Greetings From Crabbehof
Welcome to Dordrecht! There are plenty of expats here, we even have a book club 🤣 I hope you settle in well and enjoy this beautiful city 😁
Funny seeing cities with your perspective
"stadslandbouwkas de oude Beer", is a nice place in Dordrecht, where you can get various hot peppers, when they're ripe enough,
because it's a greenhouse kept by nonprofit volunteers.
Welcome in our beautiful city. You already discovered the most imported part: Brokking gebak 😁
Roads and house are small because real estate was really expensive at the time these houses were build. Everybody wanted a house in the inner city.
3:18 Haphoek (Bite or munch Corner) Hap (to bite or munch) and Hoek (corner)
thank you, jizzed donut
Love your videos. One small item: Porchetta is pronounced with a hard "k" - in Italian, an "e" or an "i" following a "c" makes it a soft sound, OR it has to have the "h" inserted to make it hard. Think "chianti" vs "cello." Anyway, enjoying your content, and excited by your recent move.
So good, new home! Good luck! 🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍
What a great job you did with your city tour, guys. I'm impressed and would like to see more of Dordrecht now than it just being a train stopover.
But exnay on the wifey slam to adorable Michelle, who very well could reply: “I’m an acquired taste. If you don’t like me, acquire some taste.” 😉
it’s all in jest, she is a treat 😄
Welcome to the great city of Dordrecht. Hope to see you around somewhere in the city
You practiced your pronunciation, didn't you Michelle?! 😄 Very good!! You're getting good at it!! 👍👍
Another nice place to visit is the Mercurius observatory. Come on a sunny day to look at the sun through our telescope. And when you are there also visit the visitor center De Biesbosch.
Fun fact? I think you can take a water taxi to Rotterdam if you feel “home” sick. 😊I hope you have a great time in Dordrecht!
Good luck and have fun in Dordt!
Congrats! I hope yyoull like it there. ( I’m shure you will.)❤
Hey, I was born next to Cafe Sebes, behind you in the Brokking shot.
Dordrecht will connect you more to core Dutch culture than Rotterdam can offer you, I think 😊
Oo forgot to tell you that you can take the waterferry to Ridderkerk and Rotterdam and go to Kinderdijk ( the mills) by waterferry as well
Heerlen is the street art capital of the Netherlands. I'd love it if you would visit it. It's all the way in the south.
we love street art! we'll have to check it out
@@buncharted The city itself is not too big but it's a former industrial city that has embraced it's urban vibe really well. It's more of a 'you love it or hate it' place but very different from other cities in NL.
In general a cheese shop is called "een kaasboer", just like a vegetable and fruit shop is called "een groenteboer" (or maybe groentenboer in modern spelling)
Farmers they are. :o)
You are the best love your content. Greetings from Haarlem
being there sure beats summers in tX
I drive to dordrecht on Monday. I make holidays from germany there. ❤🎉
Hazelnootschuim actually is a meringue, Broking is a great baker
multiple kaashandel? Kaashandel is cheese trade but also cheese shop/stall, so I guess it would boil down to meerdere kaashandels. Dordrecht is especially well-known for the Statenbijbel, the first translation of the bible into Dutch, ratified by the (protestant) synode. Had an immense influence on the Dutch language.
My birth citty. I love it. ❤
WOW that’s where I live! You should definitely go to some free (music)events in the coming weeks / months.
BigRivers?
There is a huge difference (and not only in the Netherlands) between an old Catholic Church and an Old-Catholic Church. In the 19th century, starting in Belgium, the Old-Catholics kept their catholic faith, but denied the existence of the Catholic hierarchy, including the Pope. Catholism for them was a individual religion, not a worldly power.
try bram la dage its realy nice!
Please, visit Maastricht too. It's all the way in the hilly south of the Netherlands. It's a gorgeous city.
we did! ua-cam.com/video/5Zvq6FYcxx0/v-deo.html
and we'll definitely be back :)
@@buncharted Oh that's great! I'll watch the video.
Congratulations!
The phrase in Rotterdam is always: Hoe dichter bij Dort, hoe rotter het wordt. 🤣🤣
Jalapeños are also at AH, as are mdm Jeanettes😊.
I lived in Dordrecht, my most favorite city to shop for antiques. Most cities all have the same kind of stores, but Dordrecht is more versatile. I also love huis van Gijn.
And what do you think of the hospitality of Dutch people? And making friends?
people are very nice! we especially appreciate when people are patient with us speaking dutch, which is more common than we expected it to be!
Welcome in our beautiful city. If you are fast you still can enjoy the best horse saucage they make in the Spuistraat. lol They close forever n september.
what's the name of the place? we gotta try it :)
@@buncharted It's butcheryshop Verkerk in the Spuistraat. The owner died a short while ago and those will close in september. It's really good.
we finally stopped by today and the paardenworst was SO GOOD! thank you for the recommendation ❤️
When are you guys going to do a show on Weed in Holland?
