Groningen has beautiful small and bigger parks. I enjoy them a lot (like the Noorderplantsoen 1:02 - 1:36). But sometimes I feel a little sad because the people who designed these parks are no longer with us. They can't see how everything has grown and how people are enjoying their designs.
Great to see the video about Groningen. One spot I always go to when I am visiting Groningen is Stropiewafel (on the Vismarkt 5 days a week). For the best typical Dutch syrup waffle. Have you already tried one?
Oh I love Stroopwafels. Specially the fresh made ones at vismarkt. A must try indeed 😊. Also the Eierballen, a unique delicacy in Groningen (which I have mixed feelings about 🤭)
7:22 It's not farmers that sell their own products here: these are traders who buy cheese, vegetables or groceries at auctions and then sell them on. You can expect the bread to be baked by the traders who sell it, but even some of them buy the bread they sell from mass bakeries.
I had no idea there was a happy city index and I think there are multiple because when I searched I found the site with that name (happy city index) which had Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht as top three Dutch cities. Obviously I don't buy that list. Nothing against A'dam R'dam and Utrecht (I am Utrechter myself) but no way those are the top 3 Dutch happiest cities so I am very curious what list you used. In the end a list like that is always subjective of course but I am more inclined to buy Groningen as happiest than A'dam. Been to Groningen Stad many times, beautiful city, nice people, great atmosphere.
Hi @mavadelo, yeah there are a lot of indexes and they all differ based on the parameters they use. I used the European Commission Survey 2023. You can find the information here: ec.europa.eu/regional_policy/sources/reports/qol2023/2023_quality_life_european_cities_en.pdf There’s also this nice article: dutchreview.com/news/groningen-third-happiest-city-europe/ As you’ve said, I also believe that this report is at least somewhat accurate based on my own experience with Groningen and other European cities. Thanks for watching my video btw 😊
Very nice vlog. New eyes for an old city. But happiness - like health - is a tricky thing on a personal level. You only see it when it's gone. So in reality, when I speak to my native friends or family, they always complain about something. Maybe complaining makes people who have it all, happy? There is this tale of the dying Sultan who can only be saved if he wears the shirt of a perfectly happy human. When they finally find that person in a hut on a beach, he has no shirt to wear and the Sultan dies. Oh and before I forget, there is this other gem. Maastricht, capital of Dutch Limburg. I dare say that we are even more laid back than these cheese heads in the North. If you never tasted friet zoervleesj, you were never as happy as can be.
Thank you very much for the comment 😊. I will definitely visit Maastricht, and capture my experience. I love the Dutch culture, the architecture, and above all, the people.
0:00 yey spoilers, thanks, seen the video, no need for thje rest of the 9 ;30 minutes thus... otherwise you wouldn't have put all the spoilers to begin..
The province and the city are two totally different things. Among many things unemployment and low education are a thing in the province, but not in the city.
I understand why you want to support Groningen. But please to support Groningen too much. We are just a small town, and if Mallorca, Venice, Barcelona and more big cities can't handle the tourists... please stop to promote the city of Groningen. Of course we can handle one or a few thousand tourists everyday... but not much more! Thank you!
While gently emphasizing that I have all the rights to post my life and my experiences on youtube, I totally understand your sentiment. I have seen the tourism situation in Spain and I wouldn’t want to disturb this beautiful city. This is a place I would like to call my home one day too. Thanks for watching the video btw 😊.

Lol. The happiest city... You either not been around much besides that a city has no feelings. It is the people that live in it. But to say it is the happiest. How you measure and which cities did you compare with?
Don't talk bullshit, how do you, as a foreigner, want to know that Groningen is the happiest city in the Netherlands?Don't talk about things your ears and eyes have never been to, have you ever lived in other parts of the Netherlands?

What a great video, beautiful shots! Groningen is truly ‘the jewel of the North’, you captured that well. I’m very happy to call myself a Groninger.
Thanks for watching 😊. You’re so lucky to be living in Groningen. What a beautiful city!
Such wonderful videography, thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for watching ❤️
Never knew i live in the happiest city….that made me veel so happy😊…thank you.
We are so lucky to be living here. Aren’t we? ❤️
" Er gaat niets boven Groningen". Grateful to see you found a happy home here to enjoy life with your family.
It’s the best city to settle in ❤️. Thank you 😊

Apparently the happiest city, but in 2023 also had the highest su.ic.ide rate out of all provinces in The Netherlands.
That’s very sad to hear.
