    I have recently commented on another channel on the same subject "Kristang" as follows :
    The term "Kristang" originally referred to creole pronunciation of "Christian" - the religion of the Portuguese settlers. They are also called "Serani" by the older Malays - from the Arabic "Nasrani" for followers of Jesus the Nazerene (of Nazereth).

    • @yvesthesleeve
      @yvesthesleeve  4 роки тому +4

      That's true. The word Kristang means Christian in Portuguese. But it's been used to recognise our very heritage which is our faith itself. Serani mostly used/called by our Malay when Malay/Bahasa Malaysia is spoken to a Portuguese. The proper way to name our race is "Malaccan Portuguese".

    Yes, Roger, wrong time to visit Portuguese Settlement. Must go there in the evening as it will come alive. Great seafood too. Love it but if you have ventured further out to the main road, there is a great and very very popular nasi lemah, ondeh ondeh stall. You cannot miss it as there is always a long queue. Great coffee too. Was there in September 2019. The nasi lemak is very famous as people travelled from far away places to sample it.

    If you have the chance, you must visit Kampung Orang Asli (Aboriginal Tribe Villages). I don't know about Malacca, but here in Pahang, we have plenty of these villages and settlements. They are a native tribe, more native than Malay. Back in the days, they used to live deep in the jungle, some of them still are, but most of them are now living in kampung/settlement build by the government, because easier access to public services like schools, healthcare, water and electricity.
    They are rarely feature by UA-camrs. You could be the first few. By Laws and Rights, they are considered as Bumiputera, along with Malays, and other tribes in Sabah and Sarawak (Borneo). Some of them look like Malays, some of them look like Australian Aboriginals, depending of their tribes and sub ethnic group.
    I always found their names is one of the most interesting part. Most of them practice paganism/animalist, but they tend to have arabic names, with few changes. For example, for Muslims, it is compulsory to have Abdul in front of certain names like Abdul Rahman, Abdul Rahim, Abdul Jalil etc. However this rule does not apply to them therefore, their names would be Rahman, Rahim or Jalil etc.
    I am a Malay, and I went to school with many of them. It would be nice for them to go mainstream, since not many people know about them, unless they live in a state like mine.

Sorry I am in lockdown and therefore unable to treat you in person. The Hainanese chicken rice place is Hoe Kee and they are the original shop that did the rice ball. Their father whom I knew before his passing, sold to those coolies pushing the tongkang (riverboat) using long wooden poles carrying rice bags into the godowns (warehouses) along the river. So whilst they are pushing the tongkang with the poles, it was convenient to slip the rice balls into their mouths chased by some chicken meat. Quite smart way of feeding oneself when your hands are not so free. Just make sure you do a video of it. Enjoy and the funds should be enough to feed the whole family and more.

    Religion and self-righteousness can never save you nor make you righteous. For God is a consuming fire. Only Jesus Christ can cleanse you from all sins by His divine blood, give you His righteousness and assure you that you will be with Him in heaven! The Father has placed His seal of approval on Him. I really don’t think that’s a problem. Me too from Christian society and no one I know of would really feel sensitive about what he said. Jesus said to him: I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
