I learned to play on Duck Creek in the early 70’s. I was under 10 and they were very patient with me. Mom would drop me off and pick me up 4 hours later. I watched it become a neighborhood club and then go fallow for years. Kudos to the folks who are struggling to bring it back.

I know Duck Creek when I see it and I'll tell you, for $15-$25(Hot Deals), it's a pretty decent deal. Sure, some patchy spots here and there but if you're realistic with your course expectations vs what you're paying and you shouldn't be let down.
Also, at least the story they're telling about the clubhouse is consistent. I got the same details when I asked.
Also, 10/10 for the name. Can confirm, there are definitely ducks in the creek.

My FIL lives on the course and helps out with marshalling/anything else they need - you should totally come back and review after the club house is rebuilt. New owners are really trying to get it back up to par (haha). But honestly I feel like one of the best prices out there to play in the North Dallas suburban area - even if its not as resplendent as some newer/more expensive locations.

I feel like the one thing that is missing from these videos is that most of these courses probably have a local rule that you can declare anything reasonable as abnormal course conditions and legally move your ball. I've played at plenty of courses where they had a rule that basically said "you don't have to play out of the bunkers - we know they are bad". That significantly improves the playing experience at courses that are doing their best, but may be a bit rough.

I went out there a while back, and my problem was not the golf course conditions. They were to be expected for how cheap the course is, and honestly, better than what I expected. But we had a 3:00 tee time(summer months so the daylight lasts longer. We did not recieve a cart or get to tee off until 3:45. They had so many tee times cram packed together and we were waiting extremely long on every hole and our group are not good golfers, one of which who hardly even plays and we were easily on the group in front of us tail. And they were on another groups tail, and so on. It was ridiculous. We ran out of day light on the 16th hole, it was around 8:45. So when i say no daylight we could barely see to get back to the clubhouse, and there was a few groups behind us. That is how long the round took.

I played that course around 76 or 77. A friend at the time called me and asked if i wanted to be the 4th for him, Golden Richards and Roger Staubach. After i finished laughing, my friend said, "no, really, not kidding". So in the 0.05% chance that this was real, I showed up. My friend introduced me to "Golden Richards" and said Roger couldn't make it. "Golden" was funny as hell and played a decent game of golf. The course was really not very memorable. Years later, "Golden" was found wandering the streets in Houston. When it was reported by the news media that "Golden Richards" was homeless and destitute, the real Golden Richards came forward and said he was just fine, not wandering homeless anywhere. I sighed, thought to myself, gosh I wish Roger Staubach had showed up that day 😂.

This is really nice considering it's a muni. You should see some of the ones here in Jersey that are constantly maintaing and HAVENT been hit by lightning. This course would be a tour event spot compared 😂. Plus, I'm assuming that they're diverting most of their finances to fixing the clubhouse, which could be why it's in a rough state currently. Also, ride along fees are very common here. That didn't bother me at all

  • @dadmybest_edc

Most courses I've played at my wife and 6 yr old princess has been with me. Majority of the time there is a ride along fee that averages $10-15 and sometimes when they're super nice they don't charge anything for my daughter...BUT that is robbery to try and charge the same price for a ride along as someone that is actually playing.
I know prices have gone up like crazy since covid, my issue is how oblivious some of these courses are as to what they think it's worth. There are courses just like that one around me that think it's fair to pay $60 and they wonder why they eventually go out of business...sad.

"Oh my GF is just riding along and not playing" Next thing i see when i go out and ranger on the course is the GF playing golf. I know most people are honest and are truly just there for ride. Also it becomes a problem when a 2-some shows up but require 2 carts so one of their GF/wife is tagging along. That right there i would definitely charge a full cart fee, especially if the course is busy and will need the entire cart fleet for the day. Lot's of courses do a ridalong fee, doesn't hurt my feelings, then again my wife doesn't come. I travel to Dallas regularly and play while I am there, I will have to check this one out. Love to play, not too Bugie to play budget courses.

I don’t know many places that wouldn’t charge for a ride along. I feel like 10 bucks is a great deal for a ride along.

Ride along fee is for insurance purposes, since only paying customers are covered. It's a theory .

Side note and true story, had a gun pulled on me on the 17th tee because we were waiting on a group to tee off and we were laughing with eachother about something irrelevant and the group in front thought it was about them. So that was wild.

When you hear that lighting burned down a structure of that size and it's been almost a year since it happened means they are attempting insurance fraud and the insurance company is on to them. This is how all the party stores in Michigan do it.

This course is about par for the course. I'm betting it has a fairly new owner. A $35 weekday $45 weekend courses average gross revenue per year is around $950,000, average expenses are around $900,000. So unless the owner is willing to sink the very small profit if any back into the course, this is what you get. Some courses in that price range are in great shape, but they usually have long-term owners who have built up large maintenance funds, or owned by a municipality who runs it at a loss for the community.

This course wasn't awful at all. Tee boxes need some care but for $35 it's more than serviceable.

If you ever make your way to North Carolina (Raleigh area) you should play Olde Liberty Golf Club as part of this series. I live in this community and the course is pretty bad! I'm a golf fanatic and am usually pretty lenient on golf course evaluations but this one is bad! They do not have a clubhouse, it's a trailer (not because of lightning ... just because!). They also do not have irrigation so the course relies on mother nature for watering and in this sweltering NC heat, that's not a great recipe for success! Read a review on it that said the course gets less attention than an orphaned baby. 🤷 Love your content though and really enjoy videos like these!
