Miranda cosgrove had the same situation back in 2014 this guy was obsessed over her and would follow her around and would threaten to kill himself to show how much he loves her in the end that led to a restraining order he was not allowed to come with in 100 yards or contact her and he did violate the order and ended up serving jail time

As someone who counsels sexual assault survivors, I just wanted to add some info. Yes, it's great to become empowered and that does take time for those that have already been hurt. However, it isn't so simple as learning to fight. For the majority of sexual assault survivors, the assaulter is usually someone that they trusted (family member, friend/date). This is how the power play occurs and it is not natural to want to fight back cousin/step-dad, whoever it may be. The survival instincts take over when we are in serious danger. We either fight/flee/freeze. This is something we don't control. For the majority of the time, the response is to freeze. Then there comes to option to report. Since many of these cases are with family or someone we know, it isn't an easy decision to report and often times, the justice system does not work out because of the "lack of evidence". So usually, best way for empowerment to seek resources, get support, heal. As well as continue to educate the masses about respect and boundaries. And often times, the best way to educate is to be those models to children :)

I highly recommend that everyone get security cameras around your house. Its actually fun to see all the crazy stuff that happens outside. We've helped the cops with footage of an accident, the innocent party actually lied about what happened for some reason but our cameras told a different story. Just last night 2 little girls were looking in my car windows. Probably just using the window as a mirror but they couldve been looking for something to steal, hard to say. Theres always something going on in the neighborhood and its nice to have eyes on it.

Just need to make sure you create a complex different password for your home security account than the ones you use for other accounts (email, Facebook etc.). Websites can get compromised and if you use the same password for everything - that compromised password can let hackers inside your house. A lot of people have fallen victim to stalkers through home security cameras.

Omg I have houes cameras but I never see anything not evne at 12am. I loo out my window itself, whic hisn't smart. But the nagain having a 911 firefighter across your street + a cop 4 houses away makes for a dull neighborhood. But there is a long driveway like path between the cop's house & another house. And during the daytiem I went behind that other houes once and saw gang name graffiti or probably just a tagger's stuff on the electric box + some small pair of male underwear on the grass. I went back later & the gang sign was crossed out many times. I wrote a note for the cops and I was too spooked to go there after dark. I'm too spooked to go there during the day now too. There was a field behind the cops' house and now it's covered with trees. Also someone stole our mail during daylght and dumped it in a park in another developement with other people's mail.

It’s the worst. I currently have one. Someone that lived with my temporarily and then got really strange and violent. I’ve now had her set my apartment entryway on fire, break in through the windows twice, shown up to places I frequent and causing a scene. It’s the worst and I’d never wish it upon anyone. Despite a restraining order the police really don’t help, she gets booked and then released quickly because of NYC jails being full. I’ve contemplated moving but I just know she’ll find me wherever I go because I have to post location of events I’m attending and then have to warn security at these places. It’s exhausting.

My family and friends were always around me bc i was afraid of being alone, and it didn't even matter when they stood up for me as witnesses until i finally set up cameras at my friends apt that i had to live at bc i was afraid of him hurting my family, and we caught him on camera violating my order of protection and finally.. bon voyage! The system sucks for real victims that shouldnt be living in fear with no hope. Almost 10 yrs later and i still feel some ptsd from it, that probably will be with me the rest of my life.

As a guy, I would be freaked out! I can only imagine what it's like for a woman. It can go from being sorry for the person to being legitimately afraid. In my mind, there's a thin line between being a diehard fan and an obsessive stalker. Like me, for example. Consider me a fan, since I find your videos interesting, to a point that I want to express my own opinion on the topics you cover. Plus, listening to your voice as Kim Possible when I was a kid, sure helps! However, I'm not gonna go around trying to watch your every move. :D Unfortunately, some people have specific issues, so even when they become stalkers, you have to deal with them carefuly and take action as soon as possible. I have to admit, this topic surprised me but it's good to share experience and raise awareness. :)

They tried to pursue a personal relationship with after me saying no numerous times. It was really scary how determined they were. I ended up having to move out of that building to a totally different place that was 5 times the price only because I knew they could not afford to move in there plus the new complex had serious security which made me feel more at ease. It’s interesting the difference with social media celebrities. They’re able to cultivate a certain type of “relationship” with their fans than even most tv or movie celebrities. It makes many fans feel like that celebrity is their friend, or even that they know each other on some deeper level.
A lot of youtubers had people showing up at their houses or places of work, those people thinking “oh I know this celeb! They’ll be totally cool with me coming to say hi!” It’s a different mindset from an actual stalker (which all types of celebs, and even bit celebs, can get). But still wildly not okay and very creepy.

You and many other UA-camrs talk to us in a very honest manner and sometimes it can blur the lines. Someone with a mental health condition can see the relationship as a two way one when the reality is it’s one way. Responding to comments aside, your videos are not an actual dialogue and people can lose sight of that.

Omg that's so creepy!!!! This one freaks me out cuz I always wondered how celebs handle this or even how social media people in general. They literally have so much access and photos of you online and that sceeves me out! I dont even really post pics of me on social media just food and decor cuz it freaks me out that anyone can see and do what they want with it. Once you put your image out there or share with the world it's there forever!!!! There are some sickos out there. 😱

I love how you've approached this topic - especially how thoughtfully/respectfully you've referenced the kinds of people who do this.
You really understand why a person goes to this extent of behaving inappropriately or potentially dangerously. People are people and generally no one wants to turn into this kind of person, and of course the victims such as yourself also shouldn't have to deal with this, and are totally within your right to protect yourself and put yourself first.
    Loved this 😊

I have severe social anxiety/phobia and agoraphobic tendencies so I hate leaving my home or socializing, but that's not really healthy. My dog really helps me with this, especially during the pandamic when isolation compounds these disorders. I was able to go outside and take walks and be in nature while feeling safe with my dog. Having a muzzled doberman (he has a compulsive eating disorder--the muzzle keeps him safe from eating things off the city street that could kill him and has made a huge difference in training and working on his compulsion) usually keeps people away, but we have been followed by guys.
One time, it was late at night, around 9pm, and this guy was across the street at a bus stop. All the sudden, he starts yelling at us in Spanish, crosses the street, and starts following us. I don't speak Spanish and I also froze up because of my disorder, so I'd hoped he'd get the hint when we ignored him and kept walking. He kept following, going on and on in Spanish. Eventually my dog stopped, turned, barked once and stood his ground, and the guy stopped, said sorry in English, and went back across the street.
More recently, I was taking my dog for his morning walk, and this guy was across the street at a bus stop (yes, similar situation) and he started yelling across the street. I don't know what he was saying nor did I know who he was yelling to, so I ignored him. He crossed the street and started following me down the sidewalk, yelling at me and trying to get my attention. He didn't get the hint either that I didn't want to talk to him. Then after some time my dog stopped and started going nuts barking and snarling at the guy, who stopped in his tracks. I told the guy to please go away, my dog doesn't like him, I can't help him, etc. But the guy was all "I'm a good guy, he's got nothing to worry about" and stuff like that. Dogs aren't stupid; they know when someone is being inappropriate or acting unusual. This guy was doing both. I got my dog under control and told the guy to leave us alone and we kept walking. As we waited at the crosswalk, my dog turned around and sat facing the guy to keep an eye on him. The guy hadn't followed us but tried talking to my dog from a distance. My dog wasn't having it. My dog isn't a trained personal protection dog, but he does have some instincts and has been mistaken as one.
I'm not sure why anyone, especially a guy, thinks it's okay to follow and yell at a complete stranger on the street, especially a woman. I don't know you. I don't know what your intentions are. I'd be stupid to let you get close enough to find out.

Thanks for this beautiful insight, Christy. However, there's a difference between being a stalker and being socially awkward. I admit to being the latter. This means you unintentionally and unknowingly make someone uncomfortable with your expression and gestures. People often confuse the two.

Being stalked or having someone nearly snatch you up into that vehicle is absolutely terrifying. And I think anyone who's been through either is in total agreement. I know I am. And entertainers are magnets when it comes to situations like this unfortunately. Because as you said you have no idea who you're dealing with among the crowds. Makes me think of what happened to Christina Grimmie. 😔. Smh. Gone way too soon. She was such a precious person. Still in shock about the whole thing. Similar to Selena. This can happen to anyone, not just celebrities. The first anti-stalking law in the US was made largely due to an incident in 1989 involving a non-celebriity. A man named Richard Farley stalked, spied on, stole private info from a software engineer named Laura Black, who rejected all his advances; he went to her company and shot up the place, killing 7 people and injuring her. Other high-profile incidences in the 80s include the stalking/killing of actress Rebecca Schaeffer, and stalking/injuring of actress Theresa Saldana (Joe Pesci's wife in Raging Bull).

today, I was on the train and someone kept looking at me, and he made his way across the train just to bump into me right before he exited the car. suddenly, I was a bit paranoid because I realized nowadays, they could just pop in a gps tracker or any sort of small tracker to you. I don't know why the idea went into my head but I want other people to be aware of this too, always check the bottom of your cars, the sides of your cars, it sucks so bad but men or people in general will randomly want to stalk you if they decide on you as a target out of hate or admiration.
    This world is fucked.

Just a tip and this comes from a cyber security person who I had as a professor. Never put cameras in your house. Never leave anything with cameras uncovered either. That means smart fridges, roombas, computers, security cameras, etc. they are all hackable and give hackers the ability to spy on you. You should always keep the lens covered unless the camera is in use ( like when you have the roomba running) so people can’t hack and spy on you.

He kept saying she was in a fantasy land when she clearly needed help. Stalkers usually aren't mean people, they just have little self control, and it is not easy, but it's good to just confront them and have a talk with them. Sometimes it's all they need.
